how does this band just keep getting better after over a decade? I didn't think Euology could be topped. but this EP is the best thing they've released yet. idk if brendan likes to read stuff about himself but he is genuinely one of the best lyricist in metalcore/hardcore and all the heavier genres. he's got such a distinct and unique ability with his writing. it feels like poetry. also this video evoked so much emotion from me. so well done. thanks, guys.
Feeeeelt this. This was the thing that drew me most to them honestly when i first heard prophets in high school and how he has just always raised the bar. It’s incredible, and the instrumentals have always been in the same fashion, they just are writing the songs they truly want to and it shows i think. Fuck do i know but this heat!

I really hope the melodic Counterparts with the lead guitars isn't gone forever. That's what made them Counterparts. This just sounds like so many other bands. It's not bad by any means at all, it's just not what I listen to Counterparts for. I can't be the only one disappointed by this.
theres definitely still melodic parts in the finer parts of the songs. I really hope they bring back a bunch of melodies in the future though. I feel like they have a very distinct sound thats still there in this ep
I agree. I see the reactions are overall positive here, and there's nothing wrong with that. However, for me, with all the previous albums, I could tell right away from the first riffs and vocals-this is Counterparts. Now, with this new EP, they’ve kind of sublimed. I’m not saying the EP is bad; to me, it’s subjectively generic. I’ll stick to the previous albums, which had more melodic and sophisticated song parts and twists. For now, the songs on this new EP sound too similar to each other and nothing stands out significantly.
First off, surprise EP is an absolute BOSS move. Secondly, this heavier/angrier sound is exactly what Counterparts needed to do for this release cycle. Gives us a glimpse into a different and heavier side of the band, but still has the signature parts of Counterparts showing through. I am absolutely here for this era of Counterparts, and all other eras, for that matter. This sound is HUGE.

SO. SICK. I think saying this sounds like End is silly though. Its heavy, sure, but counterparts have always had realllllyyyy heavy songs (see slave, choke, thieves etc). Obv Brendan sounds a bit like he does in End, cause like... he's the same guy LOL but Jesse's guitar riffs, Kyle's drums, the lyrics and the entire tone of the track are so distinctly counterparts and very different from END.
