Look out for my new product in the coming weeks called drainage in a bag, will be perfect for a lawn like yours, its not an overnight success but over the course of 12 months with monthly applications you will see a great difference, but you will have to scarify every bit of moss out before you apply, and remember moss causes moss to get worse so its a ongoing thing
Hi Dan. I have followed your tips to a T for the past couple of years and overseeded with Barenbrug seed you recommend the past 2 years. Lawn has looked incredible for Summer and right through to December really. However, my issue is that come Jan the lawn gets extremely thin and gets mucky. We do have a large Labrador that is on the lawn (but not a huge amount), and lawn can be quite shaded and wet in Winter (West of Ireland problem!!). I need to address the thinning this year, and I wonder should I just use a seed that contains more Fescues (Maybe 50/50 Rye/Fescue)?? Probably not going to look as good in Summer, but I cant take another winter of threats from the missus to pave the garden!!! Any advice you can provide would be appreciated, and thanks in advance!
Fescues will perish before rye in wet shady conditions in my experience so think you will be causing more problems for yourself as you will end up with a spongy lawn in the summer

Ive recently moved into a property where it has a south facing slopey lawn, it is absolutely covered in thick thatch/moss and weeds. Whats the best way to deal with this? Is scarifying it out and weeding everything out the best protocol then overseeding etc or should i buy something to kill.the moss etc first?

@@MrRoundy1977you need to use iron sulphate to blacken/kill the moss, then scarify to remove, re-seed and top dress but that will need to be done when the weather picks up
@@DanielHibbertLawnExpert You might want to clarify that in your video or the notes section. People with Bermuda or Zoysia will hurt their lawns if they scarify and cut through the stolons.
Winter die back has been bad on my lawn because the roots have rotted in the sodden conditions. My question is this. The existing lawn badly needs fertilizing but I need to overseed. I have watched every video but am confused. Do I apply spring fertilizer before overseeding and top dressing? I thought you shouldn't encourage growth of existing lawn to give the new grass chance to grow, rather than existing lawn preventing development. I know Dan says here not to fertilize if there are bare patches but I don't have many bare areas, just thinning grass.

Would you ever consider the battery 41 pro? Im just starting out and not sure if it will be suitable for professional use. Cheers!
Not for rotary as i got too many lawns to do with the rotary
Is it worth putting down winter fertilizer if I've not cut my lawn and I don't intend to until late March? I was thinking maybe the winter fert wouldn't promote growth but might help a little with the moss? The grass is very long though.
If the grass is growing the moss cant, if the lawn has good coverage well worth it, if it wasnt i wouldnt be doing it
What you think of lawn sand this time of year?

Ground still froze down to 5 feet, buried in snow , no mowing until late April, winter in Alberta
Your joking, when will that be thawed out then?
Frost comes out late April. Soil around 45 Fahrenheit in third week to end April usually. Wake the lawn up in May and put it to bed in September @@DanielHibbertLawnExpert
Overnight low May 17th, 2 degrees and yes alberta. Winter damage is bad. That week of minus 50 degrees (not joking) and the freeze thaw was brutal. Potholes are worse 😆. This Long weekend, maybe some fishing?.
Looking forward to this years videos Dan. How much water did you put in with all the liquid feeds?
Need 12ltrs in total so 2.5 ltrs of water

Useful information thanks. I also have one question regarding aeration which i do manually, should the resultant holes always be filled with either sand or compost, or is it okay to leave the holes which will subsequently close over time? Thanks
Not a practice i do aeration but yeah a 70/30 top dressing should be used
Appreciated. Really great video, very usel. Cheers
What leatherback treatment would you recommend?
You need to get in touch with a lawn care franchise and see if they offer one theres one out there called acelepryn
After such a wet winter and clay soil our lawn is just a mass of moss,no matter how much attention I give it ,it just comes back next year!
Any suggestions??
Look out for my new product in the coming weeks called drainage in a bag, will be perfect for a lawn like yours, its not an overnight success but over the course of 12 months with monthly applications you will see a great difference, but you will have to scarify every bit of moss out before you apply, and remember moss causes moss to get worse so its a ongoing thing
did Howard Webb come over and tell you how your dancing and drinking went abit wrong with a side cameo from Michael Owen?
No it was BAR in those days. Getting the drinks in
Hi Dan, how long should I leave between liquid iron treatments ?
Well if your not removing any moss once black ideally you wanna be repeating as soon as it starts turning green again
Furious about this
Hi Dan, enjoy watching your vids. Wondered if I can throw couple of Q,s at ya? We laid new turf end of September and of course it’s rained and rained since. It looks a little yellow in places and a bit of small bare patch here and there. What can I do at moment to help it along.? It’s had 2 Light cuts since it was laid. Thanks
Well has it been fed? If not then Rise n Shine would be good
@@DanielHibbertLawnExpert righto, thanks
Ive recently moved into a property where it has a south facing slopey lawn, it is absolutely covered in thick thatch/moss and weeds.
Whats the best way to deal with this? Is scarifying it out and weeding everything out the best protocol then overseeding etc or should i buy something to kill.the moss etc first?

Hi how do you he the stripes looks nice ❤
The grooming before hand gets all the grass facing the right way but its the type of grass that helps
@@DanielHibbertLawnExpertDilema, l love stripes, but isn’t the received wisdom that you never cut the lawn the same way all the time? Trying to ‘stripe’ the opposite way over the top doesn’t work, mmm!
@@jeromek2125 if you watch vids throughout the year i dont always cut that way
Cutting now while it has been so wet? won't that cause issues?
No what happens when you cut when its wet in the summer when we get heavy prolonged periods of rain?

Just waiting on labels
Did you say it was too late to apply some Resolva Daniel; I think in a recent video you’d said it couldn’t then be seded for 12 weeks? I just haven’t had the time and the weather has ben pants.
Pushing it i said like now is the last slot you got but you can also use the weedol for lawns that can be used 4 weeks before/after seeding, link in my description

Then feed it
Thanks Daniel xx
