We use house rules that if you fly over spaces with anti-aircraft, you get a shot. So getting the British fighters down there is a riskier proposition.
Correction, the max amount of units that can reach Taranto could include both the fighter from England, and the fighter from Gibraltar (although it’s unnecessary).
I was coming down to say just that ;p If you wanted maximum advantage you can use both thos fighters and land them both on the carrier. You'd have to land the fighter from Malta, the bomber from England, and the tac bomber from the carrier on malta
In general, what's your loss order for the Taranto raid? Keep as many surface ships as possible at the cost of the airplanes that cannot go to Malta? (EG : the fighter from England must land on SZ 97)? Or lose the ships and try to save as many Airplanes as possible? I know it depends on the dices rolls, but I was curious to know your thoughts about that! If Italy doesn't scramble, it can score 1-2 hit(s) on its defense (Assuming no bad luck from his part). Taking a hit on the AC is a big no if you do not lose the Fighter plane too. Losing two ships (DD/Cruiser) may expose the fleet to an Italian counterattack (which is fine I guess, although I'd prefer having Germany loses its planes instead). Obviously if there's a sub bid for UK, then the attack becomes very safe (even with two hits, you can lose the sub and cruiser, keeping the DD against a potential italian sneak attack). Losing the DD AND cruiser (Assuming no bid) may push the Italian into attacking the fleet with a lone Sub. A hit would doom the planes on the AC.
Presuming you are willing to just eat the wipe (or likely wipe) - you can hit all 3 fleets reasonably well. Bomber from UK hits 95 with the fighter from Malta - sub can't defend so it is a straight up 2v2 - although a scramble will kill you pretty easily (but then the 97 fight is a cake walk). Both fighters from UK then go to 97 with the Tac Bomber and the fleet from Cairo. Cruiser off Gibraltar + fighter from Gibraltar hit the malta fleet. Lossess are high all around - but the UK can replace theirs faster than Italy can by a wide margin.
That’s rather aggressive to say the least... if things go even slightly wrong, you’ll be apologizing to your teammates the rest of the day as they scramble to stop the bleeding. Too rich for my blood.
I agree with YG. Are you perhaps assuming that the Germans didn't put a plane on Rome? As the Axis, if I saw that I would resist the temptation to kill the two planes in SZ95 and scramble to SZ97. It's a 50/50. This really leaves a modest chance that Italy has 2 transports left and a good chance that it will have some ships left while the Brits have nothing. If the Italian BB lives, you've probably just lost Egypt. Not a starter IMO.
I'm thinking Germany can use 2 subs and probably destroy the Gibraltar cruiser, Germany can land a "3rd" fighter with the 2 italian aircraft at the airbase, Germany can build an airbase in holland (landing 3 fighters) and 2 transports to be with the cruiser and transport in the Norway area. The thing is to ensure the German battleship survives (undamaged if feasible). After sinking the 2 bigger fleets in England, the German battleship is protected by 3 fighters (German option), thats 4 dice @ 4 = 4(5)@16 vs the 3 English fighters and one bomber...+ the only remaining available unit a destroyer= 5 units at 15. I'm thinking this would seriously weaken the whole "destroy Italy's fleet" turn one.
Is it legal for UK to take their med transport and on their non-combat turn land in Greece? Thus any aircraft can land there on the non-combat turn. Thus more aircraft can enter the Toranto raid.
the planes can't land there , and you'll lose the transport , but i do like landing an infantry unit in Greece to get the reinforcements and the extra income for a few turns . it distracts the Axis player from things he should be doing so it works as a thorn in the side move .
No, I’m not that bold... but I understand that some players are over aggressive and get away with it, therefore if my teammate wanted to try it, I’d welcome that action... I just don’t recommend it for new players.
@@TheCliffsideBunker I'm going to try it on our next global game. It'll be interesting since we are now ready to integrate the zombies to our full board haha.
Wait, you could bring is 2 planes from england and land the other aircraft in malta. Same with the gibralter fighter, but it would eliminate an england fighter Edit: stupid random copy pasting on mobil
OKAY, I'm late on this conversation about the raid on Taranto (by two years) what l would like to know is dosen't anyone have the Bismarck sitting on their south shore? Wounded but still alive and maybe a sub with it. All these planes your bringing down from England would need to be used to clean up the waters around England. Maybe I'm just a lousy dice roller but l can't justify leaving German ships to go after Italian ships.l think it would be a suicide run to go to Taranto without England's fighters. Save the carrier to fight another day and concentrate on Africa. You will be back in the med in no time.
Yes!!! Return of the strategy vids!! Keep em going brother!
Cheers buddy... gonna have a poll question today for Patrons for which strategy I should cover next (look out for it)
Preaching to the choir Brother, it's sacrilege otherwise!!!

You could in theory bring in 1 more fighter from london, if you really want to go hard and don't fear sealion

@@enderman103 I beat you to it (lol)
Haha! Shows who knows there stuff ;)
It's necessary for my rolls
Just to be clear, the third fighter could come from Scotland, or another one from England. That would still allow your Gibraltar fighter to hit SZ 96.
Glad to see the some more strategy videos..great video!.
Thanks Warpig... a new one should be up soon.

This was a very interesting. Thanks.
YG - great video. Really enjoyed it!
Thanks ASB... are you playing this A&A edition at all or is it just HBG variants for now?

It's simple economics. UK and the allies can replace those losses, Italy can not.
Agreed.

No. Planes cannot land on newly captured territories

I've seen a player(Crocket) forgo Taranto and join the British navy with the French, wouldn't do it myself but what do you think of that?!
I say Tobruk or Taranto, nothing less.
Have you tried the Tobruk assault to help UK retain control of Africa with the Taranto raid?

Do you lose your planes on Malta afterwards most times?
How can the plane on Malta go through the blockade around Malta to reach Taranto?
Clash With Saber Air units may fly over enemy ships to reach a target in a different sea zone

What? You can’t land a stray bomber on an aircraft carrier?
For me it is a given. Italy losing many exensive units and the UK too is a very nice trade, the UK can rebuild them over time Itlay unlikely ever.
