Her connection to the green lantern core is so strong she has control over her ring even when it is not on on her hand. Wow she is awesome. Great fight.
His hands gets covered in green energy, the music changes then starts to build up, her eyes turn green: "And I, am a Green Lantern" Such a bad ass moment. Then she goes beast mode and beats him without the ring. Perfect scene.
Oh my wow, am I actually witnessing a green lantern using the ring in an interesting and unique way. The way she does things, how she fights and uses it is lovely
I mean, all she does is make weapons, and not even appropriate ones. He has a spear, and yet she doesn't do the best counter, which would be a shield and a longer spear.
Seems odd to me she makes a bow to shoot the arrows, couldn't she just make the arrows and send them at him without the bow? Doesn't really make sense.
She isn't trying to defeat her father at first. She's stalling hoping that her father will see what he's become at some point through the battle. She is complete control of the situation, even when she gets pinned to the wall. He takes off her ring and puts it on himself. No force in the universe could force that ring onto the finger of somebody unworthy unless the one in control of that ring allows it. If she wasn't in control, her suit would have disappeared when he took the ring from her, but the fact that she still has the suit and her father is able to put it on himself is proof that she is still in full control of the ring and is simply letting him do it so that she can end the fight. She took her father out pretty quickly, showing that she could have easily defeated him the whole time. She was just waiting for her father to come to his senses, but recognizes that her father is lost, and ends his cause.
I think you're exaggerating how much control she had over the fight. At 1:00 when she thrusts forward with the spear the head breaks off. The ring is clearly able to penetrate his armor, as indicated when, at the end of the fight, it's completely blasted off. The spear is aimed roughly around where a human heart would be, and although neither combatant is human I think it would be reasonable to say that such a blow would be lethal. The only explanation is that at that moment Laira tries but fails to kill her opponent because ultimately she lacks the will to kill her own father. This indicates an internal struggle occurring within Laira during the fight, rather than the image of a calm warrior totally in control from the very beginning. Does she kill the man who raised her to fulfill her duty? Does she fight against her own people for the greater good of the Sector? Where do her loyalties really lie? Is she still that little girl who always runs to her father? Or is she a Green Lantern? I think the reason her father was able to remove the ring was because deep down, she doesn't really want it, she honestly wishes things could go back to being simple. She misses being daddy's little girl. But seeing her father holding the most powerful weapon in the universe with such greed and lust for power forces her to face the truth. He's changed. And so has she.

Intriguing... In most scenarios where a lantern's ring is stolen, it registers the new wielder's power over it's respective aspect almost immediately, and should it be lacking, normally it just comes right off, yet in this case, it didn't register anything... Instead, it almost seemed like she was capable of remote manipulation of the ring. Fascinating indeed.
Also in every case I've seen, when their ring comes off the Lantern corp member loses their armour since it's generated by the ring but hers didn't even flicker.
I feel like I've never really seen what a green lantern ring can really do. I mean, the potentials are endless, but every time I see a green lantern fight, they make dumb constructs like huge fists, or a huge baseball bat, or some other stupid thing. I swear Ive seen Hal make a giant slingshot once, I mean really? of all the things you could create. Really though, I feel like this fight gave me a small glimpse of what a GL ring can really do in the right hands.
It really comes down to what you can come up with on the spot. Most of the fights I've seen Green Lanterns in, they have to think fast and just work with what they can conjure up. They have to think it before they can make it into a weapon after all.
Sasuke Uchiha that was shitty it was basically a green lantern memorial and death montage they should let that planet do their job instead of risking their lives in vein
Her father was seriously thickheaded, though. What part of 'you don't pick the ring, the ring picks you' does he not understand. He's seen a ring choose its bearer and he knows that as long as it wielder is alive, the ring will belong to them. Even if he were to kill his daughter, the ring wouldn't choose him. It would pick someone else and he'd still have squat. Why is he after an artifact that he can never use? He should know how it works by now. He's seen it in action before.
Xylarxcode No different of Iolande's brother, who even killed a Green Lantern hoping to get the power he always wanted (which ended up in his sister's hand instead), in the Animated Series.
Are you kidding me? He was nothing but a loving and supporting father who did what he had to do for his people, she's a traitress and a shame to all her people!
For those who think the ring didn't register because of her will. Remember, she's still the wielder, until death. Him putting on the ring is just that. Putting it on. So even if it was on his finger, he can't use it. Not unless she dies and it chose him. That's how it works.
Not in canon. Hal Jordan's ring has worked for both Green Arrow and Batman in various storylines, and when Hal went nuts and became Parallex he collected the rings of every GL he defeated, including Sinestro's yellow ring from Guy Gardner. You can either say that her father did not have the will to invoke the ring (canon) or that the rules are whatever the writer wants them to be for any given storyline (the harsh reality of comic books).
@@dhunter1133 Such a complicated thing isn't it? Well unfortunately I'm not an editor. Cause if I was, I'd make that the standard function of how the rings work. They can only function once they reach the next wielder once the original owner passes. Now I do recall Sinestro attempting to steal Hal's ring in First Flight. By the by, Vampire Hunter D fan? Ace Knight The difference is that Batman removed it with Hal noticing which should be impossible. She let her father remove the ring so she could destroy his armor
What about Trigon? He raped his own daughter and then tried to kill her and take over the earth. Not to mention the amount of dimensions he ruined. Although I don't know Laira's fathers story.
I love her fighting style, she uses constructs to make weapons, and while that isn't unique. The fact that she has such mastery over it is very impressive. Her movements and control over those weapons are better than any other lantern I've seen. Granted the only lanterns I've seen fight are Hal Jordan, John Stewart, and Guy Gardner.
You call that one good? It's basically a story of an antichrist who doesn't want to help and hates her Satan-esque father and ends up brainwashed. At least for Laira's case she actually loves her dad.
I seriously love this version of Laira and she should have her own comic series and an appearance in another Green Lantern movie that follows this universe
Laira Omoto is one of the few GL's with prior combat training, particularly of the advanced melee variety. You'd be surprised where willpower can show up in a population.
Can you imagine if someone with ADHD had one of those rings? I'll explain. Before everyone labeled it as a "disability", ADHD used to be referred to as "active imagination."
Elu Arkham jeramahia123 Jeramaihia123 is right - take it from someone who actually has ADHD - i could think of so many things i could create it would be a dream come true!
IMHO all these comments about her being a weak GL are missing the point. I think she deliberately set him up. First to test his character and second to get him to take the ring so she could strip his armor. If she had just handed it to him he would have suspected something was up. I think this is proven with her monologue at 2:30. From that point on she kicks his ***, he never lands another blow.
I agree completely. When the ring was taken from her, an astute observer would think "Why is she still in her GL costume without the ring?...." OOOOHHHHHH.................=)
BlueDemonofFire so what, the guy has a point. the armor didn't make her fight in such a poor way. everything she did while he had the armor on was just so stupid it was laughable. and then oh armor goes off, oh now i can fight like never before, really?
Sigurd Jack The hits she landed while that armor was on broke her weapons, and it gave him the ability to fly. Once the armor was off, all she really needed were her bare hands to beat him, which I doubt would have been nearly as effective if she tried those same moves earlier.
that's not the point. the point is her EVERYTHING is better. her fighting was shit. if she coulda done what she did in the end before, then she should've been able to figured out other stuff to do against him. Logic.
Sigurd Jack Yellow negates Green Lantern powers, since his armor is indeed yellow, she couldn't touch him until he put the ring on and she exploded it. You guys really should learn your lantern history, the guy in the yellow armor bears a striking resemblance to sinestro as well. He's a Yellow lantern without the ring.
It's sad that green lantern within the last decade of animated movies doesn't habe fight scenes as well choreographed as this movie, or even first flight.
@@extremelyvividcardgames7890 I mean using hand held weapons to fight close combat kinda defeats the point of having the ring. Using the ring to create trains, guns, beams etc is pretty versatile in my opinion. The way it's used here is super cool tho.
they should make a green lantern tv animates series were hal and laia meet by him being attacked by a monster and she comes to help him only to find out when they get back that they have to work together as partners to investigate a sector.
It's usually one green lantern per space sector. It would need to be a major situation for the guardians to send another lantern in. Thantos from Marvels infinity war or Galactus would be an example.
History of the green Lancers is fascinating to me. I would love to learn more about the original Green Lantern. Especially the first Green Lantern who is known as a scribe.

Question: Why is it that every time there's a power that relies on concentration and imagination, the people using the power have such limited imagination? Spears? Arrows? That's it?
+SirC0wd0g Depends on the person, Laira was a trained warrior before she got the ring as was Jon Stewart. Kyle Rayner was an artist and he does more interesting stuff with his ring as does Hal Jordan who is more of a cocky joker and test pilot.
+SirC0wd0g They don't need anything flashy, just useful. Plus, it's best to use things you're familiar with; you'll get distracted by your imagination and get cut down.
but in the comics, her life was terrible, she lost her love..expelled from the corps, became a psychopath, almost saved but died in the end...and it did not end after that.. the guardians deemed her as a disgrace and renegade after all that she did for the corps...unfair because HAL JORDAN fucked up more than her and HAL JORDAN still the 'hero' of corps...
I dont know anything about the her lore and the Green lantern corps lore. Care to elaborate on that a little please ? I have heard she did not make her apparence in the NEW 52 ... yet. Any news on that too ?
Thierry Saint-Jour well, i haven't read the new 52 yet about green lanterns...only the pre-52 of DC universe...but i really hope that the writers give her life more justice now..i mean in the new 52 barbara gordon can walk again so i think they can also rewrite Laira's life in a more positive side just for her fans. in the pre-52, hal jordan almost decimated the whole corps..while Laira for what i remembered only killed someone in the name of justice..but you see, the guardians still forgave Hal while Laira was expelled..it is really unfair.
Thierry Saint-Jour*Spoilers... like, a LOT of spoilers* Abin Sur's son was chosen to be a member of the Sinestro Corps but pussed out of the war. Eventually, a group of patrolling GLs including Laira found him, he surrendered, but Laira killed him(as the Lanterns were given the privilege to kill in the events of Sinestro Corps War). She was tried, banished, overcome with rage to the point that a red power ring chose her to be a red lantern(which are all mindless beasts, except for Atrocitus). At some point, Hal, Laira, and Sinestro are in the same place and she's about to kill Hal, but she says "Help me" right before Sinestro kills her, which he claimed was an act to save Hal's life.
360FANMAN117 Ty bro for the short story. ^^ I hope she's going to appear in the NEW 52 but in a more positive light this time around as gucci13 mentioned. I don't know shit about the Green Lathern Corps but I'm planning to read comics on that matter soon.
gucci13 hal jordan almost decimated the whole corps ? For what reasons exactly ? And I agree you, lest hope she comes back but on a more positive light. But DC screwed up so many characters in the NEW 52 so I have my doudts about them. For one Barbara Gordon, they fucked up so many of their characters its not funny.
I honestly think the whole "not killing" thing makes the ring 50% less effective, imagine the posibilities with something like that, but now narrow them down to things that aren't letal... see what I mean... plus, green lantern is one my fav characters, but it might be because of what he can do rather than what he actually does, the dude below is right, they're always "giant fist" and "green beams", but where are ALL the other things you can do with it?
It should be less “no killing” and more “no killing unnecessarily” if you have no choice but to do it okay then do it, but try to defeat your enemy without killing them unless you absolutely have to
Ian G i don't get how he managed to stab her! where's the ring shield? why didn't she made herself in a thick spiked, heavy, impenetrable armor, then increase her normal strength and speed, and play hockey with that purple drunken master?
The ring channels its energy directly from the show writer's mind and knows how to work for the script's convenience. In many ways it is more cosmic and divine than one could possibly imagine.
MONSIEUR DECKELMOUK it's not the color itself that is a weakness to green lanterns, it's the ring that powers it, right? so she's wearing a green lantern ring, but he doesn't. so you are saying that even a yellow flower is a weakness for a green lantern, just because it's yellow? i'm sorry but i don't follow.
I am the bone of my sword Steel is my body and fire is my blood I have created over a thousand blades Unknown to Death, Nor known to Life. Have withstood pain to create many weapons Yet, those hands will never hold anything So as I pray, UNRIMITEDO BUREYDO WOKZU!!!!!
See, if Hal Jordan or John Stewart did stuff like this, then maybe Green Lantern would be a cool character. However, it seems the entirety of their arsenal is let's make a giant something then smack you with it
There's a green lantern for every worthy species in the cosmos, and they can go to sectors other than their home sector if needed. You think three GL's can protect earth when it comes under attack about 20 times a week?
This animated movie had 1/50th the budget of the live action Green Lantern movie and this one scene is better than the entire live action movie.

Not that this wasn't interesting to watch. As a matter of fact, I loved it. However, I couldn't help but feel like she could have just imagined a giant rocket launcher and ended it all.

*its
She has a new generation of ring. Not sure when they introduced them, but I'm pretty sure they're fairly new.
The ring is limited by the wearer.
***** #BatmanForGreenLantern
Weren't they already?
It depends on how creative the writer is tbh, most of them are lazy and go for boring big fists and punches
aaand I need the title of this movie because, she is just awesome.
thank you
Sasuke Uchiha that was shitty it was basically a green lantern memorial and death montage they should let that planet do their job instead of risking their lives in vein
there is definitely room for improvement
This should've been the green lantern movie for theatres, and should be the green lantern for the upcoming Justice League movie.
I know it's been five years but Green Lantern Emerald Knights
well damn didnt even need the ring
The best Lanterns often don't.
Love that she kept switching to a roo dart during the fight. It's a highly underrated weapon
He should probably get a red lantern or yellow lantern ring.
That is not as clean cut as you speak. And he was a Green Lantern too, way before she was and for a longer period.
Xylarxcode No different of Iolande's brother, who even killed a Green Lantern hoping to get the power he always wanted (which ended up in his sister's hand instead), in the Animated Series.
All we can say is... plot
When did this happen?
+KorgCrimson When did _what_ happen?
God the feels when all the memories started playing.
This guy removes a lantern ring, no one bats an eye.
Batman removes a lantern ring, and every body loses their mind
Ace Knight The difference is that Batman removed it with Hal noticing which should be impossible. She let her father remove the ring so she could destroy his armor
Ace Knight Also batman has no power, this guy is bold, tho!
+Ace Knight Batman is boring, overrated, overused, fuck him. Hal should make a green dildo and fuck batman in the ass.
marcoswillianl you'd like that wouldn't you
Ace Knight No, i'm not gay like batman and the batfanboys, fuck off Gayce Knight
She deserves her own series.
Is this guy trying to get the worst father in the galaxy award? probably found out Darth Vader wasn't in the running for it anymore...
What about Trigon? He raped his own daughter and then tried to kill her and take over the earth. Not to mention the amount of dimensions he ruined.
Although I don't know Laira's fathers story.
Sir Mangler tri-what? HE DID WHAT TO WHO?!?!?! DUDE! NOT OK
Wait, when did he rape raven?
kiana albright Read the comics. There is a lot more about Raven.
Raven? like from teen titans?
I love her fighting style, she uses constructs to make weapons, and while that isn't unique. The fact that she has such mastery over it is very impressive. Her movements and control over those weapons are better than any other lantern I've seen. Granted the only lanterns I've seen fight are Hal Jordan, John Stewart, and Guy Gardner.
Almost as good a parent/child storyline as Raven & Trigon
You call that one good? It's basically a story of an antichrist who doesn't want to help and hates her Satan-esque father and ends up brainwashed. At least for Laira's case she actually loves her dad.
EmptyMan000 K... So Raven not loving her father doesn't make it a good arc then ? It was one of the best arc in TT comic/show
I like how she uses that rope dart
Laira reminds me of one of the amazons
I seriously love this version of Laira and she should have her own comic series and an appearance in another Green Lantern movie that follows this universe
Laira Omoto is one of the few GL's with prior combat training, particularly of the advanced melee variety. You'd be surprised where willpower can show up in a population.
Can you imagine if someone with ADHD had one of those rings?
I'll explain. Before everyone labeled it as a "disability", ADHD used to be referred to as "active imagination."
The ring also requires focus.
People with ADHD are focused. Just not on anything in reality.
Elu Arkham
jeramahia123 Jeramaihia123 is right - take it from someone who actually has ADHD - i could think of so many things i could create it would be a dream come true!
How about someone with ASD a variation of it and Im pretty quick in thinking about things and I'm instinctive as hell
***** Focus makes the difference between a flashlight and a laser son. Being unable to focus is a negative no matter how you sugar-coat it.
I wish green lanterns did this more. Making weapons from their home world and using the energy in unique ways
"master combo!", "finish him!", "Special attack!", "K.O"
I still love this movie. Why can't we get another GL movie this good again man
That terrible film might have dropped Green Lantern’s popularity so much that they just stop most production plans.
So much implied story. I love it.
dat finisher move
suplex to suplex hi kick jump into kick
she is pretty cool
Agreed. I was thinking it should have been a super move in SF4 lol
Wow. She started fighting better after she loses the ring and takes a spear to the shoulder? Impressive, I guess.
Well, her father didn't have that overpowered armor anymore either.
BlueDemonofFire so what, the guy has a point. the armor didn't make her fight in such a poor way. everything she did while he had the armor on was just so stupid it was laughable. and then oh armor goes off, oh now i can fight like never before, really?
Sigurd Jack
The hits she landed while that armor was on broke her weapons, and it gave him the ability to fly.
"And I, am a Green Lantern!" PROCEEDS TO BEAT HIS ASS WITHOUT THE USE OF THE RING WITH A HOLE IN HER SHOULDER. This is beyond baddass.
It's sad that green lantern within the last decade of animated movies doesn't habe fight scenes as well choreographed as this movie, or even first flight.
Probably cause the ring is mainly used as a long range weapon.
@@justanothergaming2086 it is so much more versatile than just beams, guns and fists though.
@@extremelyvividcardgames7890 I mean using hand held weapons to fight close combat kinda defeats the point of having the ring. Using the ring to create trains, guns, beams etc is pretty versatile in my opinion. The way it's used here is super cool tho.
Because they use the rings like big fists, shields, and beams that are weak. At leadt, laira was kinda dope in using hers.
It's awesome, until you remember that her dad's just pissed because he didn't get the ring.

they should make a green lantern tv animates series were hal and laia meet by him being attacked by a monster and she comes to help him only to find out when they get back that they have to work together as partners to investigate a sector.
It's usually one green lantern per space sector. It would need to be a major situation for the guardians to send another lantern in. Thantos from Marvels infinity war or Galactus would be an example.
All the other Green Lanterns use their rings to make machines. She uses her’s for close quarter combat weapons which she wields herself. Outstanding!
She reminds me a lot of the Drukkaris from Warhammer 40k
History of the green Lancers is fascinating to me. I would love to learn more about the original Green Lantern. Especially the first Green Lantern who is known as a scribe.

Question: Why is it that every time there's a power that relies on concentration and imagination, the people using the power have such limited imagination? Spears? Arrows? That's it?
+SirC0wd0g Because the authors weren't green lanterns...buddy.
+Kickaz3 Lux You don't need to be a green lantern to have an imagination.
+SirC0wd0g She's summoning, what I would arguably call, sensible armaments. Should she have been fighting him with a dinosaur?
but in the comics, her life was terrible, she lost her love..expelled from the corps, became a psychopath, almost saved but died in the end...and it did not end after that..
the guardians deemed her as a disgrace and renegade after all that she did for the corps...unfair because HAL JORDAN fucked up more than her and HAL JORDAN still the 'hero' of corps...
Thierry Saint-Jour*Spoilers... like, a LOT of spoilers*
Abin Sur's son was chosen to be a member of the Sinestro Corps but pussed out of the war.
For one Barbara Gordon, they fucked up so many of their characters its not funny.
one of my favorite lanterns, it was great to see her in action...kelly hu was the perfect voice for her too...
Man, it's been years since I've watched this, and I still enjoy it!
you don't know fluid animation until you've seen this
Just watch anime.
i do, but im talking about the dc cartoons.
Dobby Hex Your right.
Yeah, if they could just make simple guns out of the Green Lantern energy, they would probably double in effectiveness.
The whole no lethal force rule was eventually removed in The Sinestro Corps Wars but not every Lantern would use it. Killowog especially.
It should be less “no killing” and more “no killing unnecessarily” if you have no choice but to do it okay then do it, but try to defeat your enemy without killing them unless you absolutely have to
this scene alone had more emotion then all of BvS put together
This is one of the most satisfying and triumphant fucking scenes in all of DC animation
Excellent Scenes to One of the Best Animated Movies of DC Comics Characters and this, One Iconic ''Green Lantern Lady Warrior'' my friends. Thanks.
Pretty good fighting scene tbh.
Lantern Corp 101: The ring doesn't like being pulled off its owner and put on an others hand.
Apart from Laira, this film had some really HOT alien girls in it. Also overall it was awesome.
The character development and the story alone was so investing, I forgot this was a Green Lantern movie.
Love how she uses a Wonder Woman fight style: lasso, spear, swords, wrestling moves....
NOW THAT IS A FIGHT SCENE
Wonder Woman,Big Barda and Her need to meet!
too bad that DC were assholes to the green lantern characters. In memory of the Lost Lanterns. Laiara, you will be missed.
soo creative fighting style😊
The only problem with this scene is her pretending that green lantern powers adhere to the laws of physics.
3:10 lol, that spear suddenly disapeared.
MaGiC
How about making a green Godzilla and step on the guy?
Hey, if they truly made Green Lanterns as powerful as they are on paper, then they'd be the most OP things ever. Even Superman would get roflstomped.
Ian G i don't get how he managed to stab her! where's the ring shield? why didn't she made herself in a thick spiked, heavy, impenetrable armor, then increase her normal strength and speed, and play hockey with that purple drunken master?
The ring can be quite inconsistent, bullets don't go through Lanterns (though they can feel the force of the bullets) yet a spear can.
Jealousy got better of him. When a child surpasses a parent like so in some such ways. They oughta be proud not jealous & hateful.
I always come back to this fight. It’s SO. GOOD. Laira is awesome.
I love this clip. SO MUCH is going on here, and its all conveyed without a drop of exposition dialogue.

Emerald Knights is by far the BEST Green Lantern animated film. The last series also had it's Moments of Awesome.
this is some really good fight choreography
See, if Hal Jordan or John Stewart did stuff like this, then maybe Green Lantern would be a cool character. However, it seems the entirety of their arsenal is let's make a giant something then smack you with it
But realistically that's more effective than this ninja chain or whatever. She could have beaten her father easily if she had done that.
SuperMicklovin Yeah... Like the whole time I was just like; just throw a truck at his ass!
Regardless of what constructs they make, Hal, John, Guy, and Kyle are all cool characters.

WOOA!!! now that some intense fight...DC should consider replacing the both male versions with this female version in justice league someday... :P :D
yeahnoshesucked.
Justice league is about Earth's heroes though. She does not protect earth, she has her own planet she is assigned to.
There's a green lantern for every worthy species in the cosmos, and they can go to sectors other than their home sector if needed. You think three GL's can protect earth when it comes under attack about 20 times a week?
Great animation of this Green Lantern girl, why not in cinema live action.
