I’m so sorry about the audio overlap guys! I think something happened in between when I finished and when I uploaded it bc it wasn’t like that when I was editing. I’ll try to avoid that in the future! edit: My reference to his poor grammar has been brought up and I’d quickly like to apologize for that! I was intending to say that considering incorrect grammar is improper in professional settings, but I did not account for the fact English is not Thomas’ first language despite being aware of that. I’ll be more considerate in the future! I never intend to make inappropriate comments, and if you ever feel as if I have, please let me know so I can work on that :) Actually threw my phone across the room when I saw this had over 100K views what the hell 6 months later edit so many people from my school have watched this but now I’m wondering why they didn’t realize it was me. Summer, why didn’t you know it was me 🤨 I thought we were friends Summer 🤨 /j
Just an FYI for next time, the "t" in Chat Noir isn't meant to be pronounced. The pronunciation is less "Shat Noir" and more "Shanoah." It doesn't really flow as well without the accent though, but honestly I think next time you should just say "cat" instead of "shat" lol No hard feelings intended, it just killed me a little each time I heard the past tense for shit
@@Commenter839 sorry about that! I have irl friends who watch miraculous and they pronounce it like that a lot so I assumed that’s how it’s supposed to be pronounced. If I bring it up again I won’t pronounce it that way :)
Ok I just found this video and while I'm not here to white knight the maker of a show I don't even like, I think there were several bad faith argouments and stuff you just got wrong in this video. First of, the title. While you did go into why you are making this comparison, I don't belive being salty on twitter over criticism and messing up a character arc should make someone comparable to a bigoted christian who blamed somebody for the suicide of her collegue in an interview and belives autism can be cured by Jesus, so already it's kind of unfair to compare him to Butch. Also, you make several jabs at Astruc mispelling stuff and used that to argue that he's not professional. First off, great argoument, it's always compelling when the way people argue against you is by pointing out your grammar mistakes. But also, you do know that he's french, right? English is not his first language, and while yes, it should be required from any professional to speak and write english well, these aren't official guidelines of the next season arc or press conferences, this is a fucking salt tweet he made, I don't think showing us that the grammar sucks adds anything to your argument. You could probably do the same with this comment I'm writing since english is not my first language either. Now, to the actual criticism. I don't think Thomas understands the fact that what is presented in media should be satisfying as you watch it and not only become satisfying later, the problem with his argoument is that none of us know what his plans are, we can only judge the show as is, and he doesn't understand that. However, he is right in saying that we don't have the right to tell him what to do. Again, he knows where the story is heading and we don't. Maybe Chloe will get redeemed eventually, maybe she won't. And yes, in the past stories have been changed due to fandom outcry, but I also think creative integrity comes first. It's clear that Thomas has a story that he wants to tell, that he has been wanting to tell for years and even if it's bad to the point a child can point out its holes, it's still his goddamn right to tell it how he wants to, and shouldn't be chastized for not giving into what the fans want. About the comics (which, my god, have some of the worst artwork I've seen in quite some time) the point of the story is to be anti-racist, they showcase racist stereotypes only to then break them and show that "things are not like they seem": It's done in a very poor and amateurish way, but I doubt anyone on the writing team is actually racist, they're just incompetent to the point they made something accidentally offensive. And again, I'm not saying people don't have the right to critizie or be offended by it, I'm just saying intent should also be considered when taking into account someone's credibility as a writer. Astruc's constant tempertantrums on twitter do hit his credibility, on that I agree, and I think someone higher up should tell him to stop acting so childish about it, but I still don't think he did anything wrong and I think he's in the right for making the show like he wants to.
“He’s racists” after DOGGING on his English skills. Not to mention it’s a bit funny how much nose wagging you do about his grammar and the professionalism that comes with it, when you failed to sync audio. You see, it’s an argument like that that really doesn’t have legs to stand on.
@@pinknolan again the comments about his grammar were in reference to professionalism, I should have considered that English is not his first language before making that joke and I plan to be more conscious of that in the future
@Marinette that just makes it 100% better tbh because the team is just calling him out. But that also makes me wonder how he voiced it then while being surprised.
@Marinette bro do you not have a life outside youtube? I keep seeing you in other videos use your time defending someone who doesn’t even know you (genuine question)
Honestly, Marinette creeps me out way more than Lila... Lila is a villain, I get it, but Marinette is supposed to be a hero! And yet her room has dozens of photos (not all taken with consent, i bet) and pictures of Adrian, she has his whole timetable over her bed, she stole his phone! She's not a good person! She's a stalker! Right now, the only way to save Miraculous would be to reboot it completely without Astruc.
Also what I heard from him, he literally made her to be the “worst” character he ever made and gave her a dark backstory but ngl tho he made her on purpose which is dumb imo Also it’s really sick of how he made the character Chloe and made her have a sad backstory of how her mom left her and stuff and basically just hates on her?? As someone who creates ocs, I love my ocs but I don’t do dumb shit like Thomas be doing to his characters by hating on something that YOU literally created.
I feel bad for the Miraculous fandom, because almost all of them that I’ve encountered are really nice people, many of them are genuinely more creative and better writers and artists than the actual Miraculous writers and artists, and Astruc seems determined to give them the worst product possible. The fans deserve a better show.
Yeah! I have friends who watch it and they really do enjoy the good but I can tell that the bad especially the overly drawn out love situation is just really ruining the experience for them :(
@@Blazinginsquids Honestly, if you want to experience Miraculous, watch the first season and a half, then abandon the show and just read some Miraculous fanfics. You will have a much better experience than you would with the rest of the show.
Yeah I gave up on the show after Quilin… when the show attempted to tack RACISM and injustice towards Marinette’s mother and the guy being all prejudging has cartoony EYEBROWS. No way can anyone take it seriously. Also the ending is FUCKED UP. She still pays a fine…when she shouldn’t have.
Hello! I know this comment is old but I just wanted to say thank you for saying this. A lot of people call the fandom negative and hateful, but it really is full of nice people who are just frustrated with the show/characters they once loved being ruined by a grown man who can't take criticism.
Thomas really can’t even use the excuse that he wants characters to stay the same because no only are the episodes aired out of order, classmates getting miraculous left and right with no explanation and then getting their origins episodes later, Marinette and Adrien having girlfriends/boyfriends for entire seasons, and Alya finally learning Marinette’s secret. So, that’s completely out the window. I’m so sick of people trying to justify Chloe not getting a redemption because the writers are sabotaging that character. If she’s supposed to be the run of the mill preppy rich brat, then why is she so important to the plot later in seasons 3-4, why does she get a miraculous in the first place, why does she get MORE screen time than a character like Lila who is actively supposed to have an affect on the plot (albeit the writers don’t do anything with her either)? “Chloe is a racist, Chloe is so mean, Chloe only cares about fame, ladee ladee lah blah dee blah” Chloe is a 15 YEAR OLD GIRL with neglectful parents who spoil her and a sister who everyone likes better than her. Why is everyone acting like Chloe could never change, what is this, “Twitter: The Animated Series”? You can’t give Chloe a mean spirited and bullying personality and then give her a best friend who sees good in her, a miraculous when you EXPLICITLY said “bad people don’t deserve miraculous’”, and MULTIPLE times of her learning her lesson and even APOLOGIZING, FIGHTING OFF an akumatization based on the sheer WILL POWER and DETERMINATION TO NEVER BETRAY LADYBUG, and then go, as a grown man, “Psh, what a bitch. She’ll never change” *IT DOESN’T MAKE ANY SENSE* I DON’T EVEN LIKE CHLOE, but her development as a character is wasted. She went from unlikable to confusing as hell because they can’t decide what they want to do with her.
Astruc also has some Chris Sonnenburg in him, who's known for creating Tangled: The Series. He actively attacked Varian fans for not praising Casandra, even within the fan discord server. Astruc himself has attacked Adrien fans just for wanting him to be given equal screentime and focus as Marinette, and accused people of being sexist and just mad because "the girl is the leader"
And his excuse doesn't make any sense cuz there are alot of shows that have female leads that focuses on all character whatever their gender is like amphibia or the owl house
@@usernotfound_____yet The thing is that the show is called Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug AND Chat Noir, but for the most part it's just the Marinette/Ladybug show. They at least addressed it a bit in Season 4 and made it a plot point, but they still left it with "feminism" as the excuse for the longest time.
He apparently doesn't know that Kim Possible exists (a show that has a female as the lead and while Ron isn't the brightest, he still got equal development with Kim, got his own fighting style and was a genuine partner to Kim who did need him often as oppose to Chat Noir who is just a Sidekick meat shield/eye candy for Marinette).
@@MatsuyoRificThey also seem to forget that the Black Cat Miraculous is literally just as important as the Ladybug Miraculous. Maybe not as useful per se, but the point is, and has always been, that someone needs BOTH in order to make a wish with Gimmi. You could say that the Black Cat Miraculous is safe in the Miracle Box, but I would argue it's actually safer on a good holder, that way it's not unprotected and if someone tries to grab it, the holder already has it equipped and can use their powers to defend the miraculous. Something I'd also like to mention is that Plagg quite literally calls Adrien "the best chat noir he's ever had" but I guess that doesn't matter 🤷
thing i wanted to point out as an asian that really pissed me off: thomas said that kung food was based off of chinese monks outfits and Beijing opera masks. but.... why combine the two? he could've gone full opera or full monk and it would've been less confusing, it honestly seems like he just connected the two bc it's chinese and not for any legitimate reasons. and like you said none of these things have to do with the fact he's a chef! the monk robes could have been explained away with it being his religion and had him wearing prayer beads as a civilian to tie it together but the opera makes no sense as he's not a performer. he should have either been a chef or an opera performer, not try to cram in both
not to mention that kung fu doesn't look like "a dragon ball z character" , y'all need to stop comparing traditional japanese elements to random parts of anime without doing research
@@lye_solution its the circle part on the outfit. You saw the photo. It doesn't have that. I saw movies that shows Shaolin monk outfits does not look like dragon balls Z outfits.
Wait so even as someone who's never watched Miraculous before... having someone who is Kung Fu themed but also cooking themed sounds like it could have be a tribute to the Stephen Cho film The King of Cooking. It's an over the top comedy film from Hong Kong about a guy who is a master chef. He has this fall from grace then ends up being a shaolin monk. I feel like you could have a fun tribute to that film with that character? But yeah it sounds like going full monk would have been better design wise, but also throwing in Beijing stuff is more just "oh this is cool aesthetics" and just kind of mashing various Chinese things together cos it looks cool without thinking about these things, and sadly reducing it all to something very stereotypical
No he isn't. YandereDev can take criticism, and whenever he gets it, he is swift to act accordingly against it. Yandere Simulator's history has been filled with him happily taking suggestions and criticism and making amends accordingly. Stop acting like he doesn't. Did you not see the string of uploads around December time? Or when he amended Kizana to be a better character? Or the Yakuza? Or when he scrapped the idea for the Befriend/Betray sidequest because so many people didn't like it? Or when he proposed an idea for Yandere-chan's inventory and amended his idea because people didn't like it? Remember the time Yandere-chan had a cheesy personality? He changed it because people didn't like it. He scrapped the idea for Lovesick Mode because people didn't like it. Or how about when he removed the Art Club's wooden deck from the confession tree because people didn't like it? See what I mean? These are several clear examples over the years. Yandere Simulator's history is full of it. If YandereDev cannot take criticism, he would have fought against them. This claim that YandereDev cannot take criticism is categorically untrue if you payed even a fraction of attention to any of his videos. Get out of here with this insincere, backhand insult.
One thing I hate about Astruc's instance on Chloe is how he says she "doesn't *deserve* to be a super hero" Being a hero isn't something you deserve to be or not, you either either a hero due to the choices and actions you make, or you are not! The "super" part of the 'superhero' just involves having super powers. Chloe could very well be a hero on her own without having powers, but Astruc treats the status of hero itself as something Chloe has to work for harder than any other person, while Marinette, who makes the exact same mistakes (more often and refuses to learn from them, like stalking Adrien, sabotaging Kagami, ditching the kids she promised to take care of and shoving that responsibility to Alya or her grandfather so she can stalk Adrien again, etc.), gets to have a free pass because she's the protagonist! I would argue Marinette deserves the powers even less than Chloe! Chloe has a reason to be a shitty kid, her own mother can't be bothered to remember her name, abandoned her as a child and left her family for another man in New York with whom she had another kid, and all her father does is spoil her to the core to make up for the void Audrey left in his daughter's heart. But Marinette is a shitty person for no reason whatsoever - her parents love her dearly, are always supportive of her hobbies, friends and career path, and never question her weird behavior when she has to go save Paris! THEN WHY IS SHE STALKING HER CLASSMATE, SABOTAGING HER FRIENDS AND USING HER HERO TEAMMATES LIKE TOOLS!? Seriously, she only sees Chat Noir as a portable Cataclysm whom she has to work around, and not with! She traced a plan to distort time and space so she could get an information out of him, information that he was more than willing to share with her and she knew it, and then pass on that information to two other people Chat did not consent to knowing or even knew they would have that information shared with, but Ladybug herself would not have any recollection of the event! WHY NOT JUST TALK TO HIM LIKE A NORMAL HUMAN BEING!? Chloe was the best and deepest character in the show, but Astruc has an unreasonable hateboner for her and decided that everyone who likes Chloe is evil (I'm not kidding, it's one of his responses on Twitter to the Chloe drama). Meanwhile Marinette does even worse things, but since Astruc likes her, she *deserves* to be a superhero!
You know this just gave me an idea for an AU where Chloe is the protag instead of Marinette. Where her miraculous is a bit of a moral compass and helps her change for the better
Honestly, one of the worst things Marinette has done was when she lied to and manipulated her parents into spending their life savings to send her to Shanghai, just because she couldn't stand to be away from Adrien for a few days. They could have easily fixed this by saying that Marinette's parents had already planned the trip for the whole family, which she'd been dreading until she finds out Adrien was also going, but no.
@@MatsuyoRific That could have been a good lesson to teach kids too, as kids tend to dread family trips because that means they can't spend time with their friends. She could have had the time of her life enjoying the trip, despite initially being bummed out, and then she finds Adrien there and has to choose between being with her family or chasing Adrien - and it's by choosing Adrien that she loses Tikki! There! Inner conflict! Seriously, the story writes itself, why does Astruc insist on ruining it?!
@@MatsuyoRific By all means. If you need fixes for the "Chloe betrayal arc", the "Chat Noir neglected arc" or the whole of season 4, I also have several ideas.
Watching this video proving what I've been saying makes me sad. However, I hope your aware that Butch Hartman has done much worse things than Thomas, but your spot on that both these men can handle criticism.
Definitely, I was more so trying to say both of them are controversial cartoon figures that can’t handle criticism, if I didn’t fully explain that, it’s my bad :)
Thomas talks like he didn't write the characters himself, ''Chloe is not bad writing, she CHOSE to fall back int her flaws'' Uh yeah?? And you were the one who made her make that choice.... Also note: Stuff like this can work as well if the message you're trying to convey is ''sometimes people don't change and they fall back into harmful habits and we can't help them unless they decide to help themselves'' which is fine, but thomas isn't trying to do that, there's no reason at all for chloe to fall back into her habits, everyone likes her better when she's nice, her idol ladybug likes her, adrien is her friend again and she generally likes herself more when she's nice as well. So what's the insecurity she has making her fall back into old habits? What's her fear? Her motivation? Where are the compelling emotions shown that makes chloe have a human reason for falling back into being a bully. You can't draw a line up then draw the same line down without connecting the two - the 'damned arc' wasn't planned. People fall back into habits for reasons, without a reason, it's bad writing. A puppet following the writers demands and not a 3 dimensional character.
"Chloé opened up, she had help, but she failed", that's completely untrue. Albeit her development was inconsistent (to the point that at times it felt as if there were 2 different characters with the same face on screen), she DID show good will and a good side. There were scenes showing she was simply after validation, bc she had been literally abandoned by her mother when she was a little kid, leaving her with a father who'd simply shower her with gifts but offered her no positive model. When her mother finally returns, we learn she never bothered learning her daughter's birthday, or even her name! Ladybug manages to reach out to Chloé, who opens up to her, confessing she doesn't really care about her rivalry with Marinette, and saying she knows nobody likes her and taht she feels she's worth nothing. For some reason, the protagonist decides that instead of trying and befriend her, ecnouraging her good side, the best solution is to help her bond with her mother... pointing out how they are both bullies! She was the first person to ever reject an akuma BEFORE transforming, and it was clearly out of loyalty for Ladybug - her hero at the time - not out of greed as Astruc claims. Then LB dumps her without a proper explanation, and in the finale Marinette indirectly pushes her towards Hawk Moth when she summons Kagami instead of Chloé to fight against Chloé's akumatized parents (out of jealousy no less, bc she'd seen Kagami getting closer to Adrien). Chloé feels pushed aside and ignored by her hero, and thanks to Hawk Moth's manipulations through Lila she ultimately loses all faith in Ladybug. Damnation arc my @$$. The protagonist pushed her back to the dark side.
Chloe: doing bad things because nobody cares about her and she just wants to be loved. Astruc: SHE'S AN URREDEAMABLE MONSTER! Marinette: loved by everyone, stalks her crush and abandon a girl whom she knows is in desperate need of help (Chloe) Astruc: WHAT A WONDERFUL HEROINE!
I get what he is trying to say but he could have been nicer about it. He could have said. Sorry, we wanted Chloe to be evil. Sometimes people are just bad people" We appreciate how much you love Chloe though".
right? even if its a simple misunderstanding or something genuinely out of his control (e.g. Qilin getting censored) he has to write a whole self-righteous condescending essay about it
Granted I still would have been disappointed with Chloe’s progress going down the drain but I would have gotten over it. But it’s because of the extra things he said about Chloe and her fans that made me more bitter towards him.
He will never (be able to) say that, because: are you sure, that is their intention? That's why I tell others ... please be more patient and let the story play out fully. Maybe you will be surprised, maybe not.
I think the issue here is that Chloe is based off of his childhood bully. They spent time humanizing her and giving her good qualities and development, but then went back and denied her trauma (cuz she’s rich apparently, but that doesn’t mean shit when real ppl can have similar parents and be traumatized regardless of their financial situation). He’s insistent she’s evil cuz he refuses to believe his bully was good in any way, and just throws all of his anger and trauma onto this fictional character. It’s reminiscent of Star vs’s Tom, who is bullied despite his development just cuz he’s based off Nefcy’s ex boyfriends, so no matter what he does (even when he’s a better person than the mc’s) he’s wrong. The excuse of “she’s evil and she’ll always be evil” would work if not for the fact they gave her redeeming qualities and bad her relatable. It’s like the opposite of Pacifica from GF, made to be rich blonde one dimensional bully, but became better just cuz the audience wanted it.
@@ma.2089 The thing is, an antagonist (or even a villain) can show sympathetic traits and even do good on occasions and still remain evil for the most part. They could even start to become good but through some tragic event back track drastically. (Though that happens rarely.) That’s what Chloe (on surface level anyway) seemed to play out as. And that’s not a bad message to teach to kids. HOWEVER! It’s the way that the writers handled Chloe’s character OUTSIDE of the show that made me skeptical of the whole situation. If Thomas was chill about people being mad about Chloe’s regression I’d have a little less of a problem with Chloe’s regression (despite the flaws and events not lining up or staying relevant.) But because he handled it so bitterly like you said, with the trauma/abuse denial and the lame explanation and the bashing of fans that did believe in Chloe, I can’t simply think that this was a problem of “this was supposed to happen and we just had our expectations too high” there’s some underline malice behind what happened to Chloe. I don’t know if the “real life bully” thing is true or not but Astruc has a grudge against Chloe and her fans and that took a toll on Chloe during S3 and 4.
Guys and gals hear me out. Epic Rap Battles of History: Butch Hartman, creator of Fairly Oddparents and Danny Phantom, vs Thomas Astruc, creator of Miraculous Ladybug: Tales of Ladybug and Chat Noir. Which of these two kids show creators has the bigger ego? Sounds like merely a fun idea. Edit: Wow! This is the first time I get so many likes for a comment! Wasn't expecting that!
I remembered seeing the comment of an unfortunate person who commissioned 300$ for a drawing from Bitch Hartman and got a scribble that looked like it was made in MS Paint in 5 minutes so I offered him one of my shitty drawings free of charge as a consolation prize. I may not be able to draw that well but I must say Butch's commission raised my self esteem as a newbie artist. Like "Hey...At least it's not as bad as that thing."
If you need a self-esteem boost just look up Ken Penders art. He was a writer for the Sonic the hedgehog comics among other things and he created a bunch of original characters for it. Did to Archie fucking up the legal paperwork Ken was able to claim right to all of his characters. He is working on a book called the Lara Su chronicles and it’s truly some of the worst art I have ever seen by a “professional”
@@Jaydove2387 Really?? Lol imagine she sees this show. "TF? Why am I a cartoon character? And why am I still like that here? Hold up, who created this?.. Thomas Astruc. Did I bully a Thomas Astruc?.."
@@Jaydove2387 Wait- named after her? OOOOOOF. That’s- that’s a whole other level of pity. The crazy thing is? I can guarantee you that the irl Chloe probably doesn’t even care about Thomas anymore. Dude needs to learn how to let go of the past.
I am not I any way defending him, but (as a French person myself) I would like to defend his grammar mistakes with the fact that this not his first language and the fact that we mostly unanimously suck when it comes to English
I definitely understand that. It was meant to be a joke referencing that he was being unprofessional when criticizing others for not being professional, and I had no intention of it being taken seriously. I fully understand why it was taken that way and I’ll make sure to be more conscious of it in the future :)
Yeah same here. Me and a bunch of fans are working on a fan reboot of the show via comic/comic dub, and Chlo gets a redemption arc. She’s a victim of abuse, Thomas, not Devil reincarnate.
He sabatotaged Chloe because she was becoming more popular than Mari then tried to gaslight everyone into believing his narrative. Her trajectory from villain to hero was plain as day, starting from when she resisted akumatization. 🤭....Chloe is still my favourite character simply because I'm not bored when watching her, not because she's a good person.
Chloe's demonization also has the really creepy undertones of the fact that she and Adrien are both victims of neglectful, abusive parents. However, Gabriel's actions are controlling as well as neglectful and Adrien is a meek, sweet little victim, so he's 'sympathetic'. Chloe, in contrast, is neglected while being overindulged, and is a demonstration of the fact that a substantial number of abusers either are or were also victims of abuse (hence why it's called the 'cycle of abuse'), and thus she is 'villainous'. When the truth of the matter is that they're both fourteen-year-old kids with rich, abusive parents, and they both deserve sympathy, help, and a chance to do better. That's one of the things that frustrates me about Chloe's character so much, to be honest - she and Adrien are both good examples of the common ways people can be shaped by abuse, and there was a chance to have such a smart story line about the topic, all the moreso because they're childhood friends. It's so frustrating to see such a perfect opportunity thrown in the trash!
This man is also extremely faux feminist. He will praise the female characters until the cows come home(except Chloe), but will openly insult the male characters and dismiss concerns about them not being treated fairly by the writers as "people are just sexist". If you want Adrien to have as much focus as Marinette, you're "mad because the girl is the leader". He's even openly insulted some of his male characters just because they were compared to a female one. Most recently, someone asked why the robot Markov, who uses male pronouns can't see through the quantum masking that keeps people from identifying the heroes, and then pointed out that Aeon, an android built to be female can, and he responded by calling Markov a "microwave with a camera" and saying that was why. Mind you that Markov was first introduced as an advanced AI with the compacity for emotion and critical thinking, and the whole episode was focused on him being more than "just some toy Max made". Later on it's even confirmed that he helped a scientist bring back dinosaurs. But, sure, I guess him not being a full android built by the Miraculous equivalent of genderbent Clark Kent married to Bruce Wayne just means he's about as advanced as a microwave.
First off, I love Markov dearly so that deeply offends me, wow Thomas. Secondly, to add to your faux feminist point, what also gives a major idea that Thomas truly has no actual feminist bones in his body is the state of his female characters. Besides Marinette, Chloe, and Kagami, a lot of the female characters in the show are completely surface level and flat. Half of the female characters only have a singular personality trait, and the ones who don’t usually are dumbed down or not utilized because of his weird, freaky obsession with Marinette. Not to mention, he seems to have this idea that in order for the show to be presentably feminist, he has to in turn dumb down Cat Noir/Adrien to make Marinette seem better and smarter by comparison. That’s not feminism. That’s anti-feminist if anything. If the only way for you to make a good, intelligent and well-rounded female character is to make all the male characters and other female characters around them garbage, that’s not feminism.
He acts like a grumpy child when faced with valid criticism :/ I'm glad others have also noticed how there were quite a few racial stereotypes in a couple of the episodes
Adding to the part of them putting themselves into the shows: I feel like the Fairly Odd Parents often poke fun at Dr. Studwell, they never victimise or glorify him. He usually is used as a dramatic doctor that you could also see in some sort of doctor based drama TV show, basically he embodies a stereotype and cliché, Thomas Astruc however was always treated seriously. Thomas adding himself to the story is kinda like a bad self insert fanfic that I would have written when I was 12 ngl.
Hearing your description of his self insert ep made me realize how narcissistic he is.. I mean, him feeling "victimized because NO ONE knows who he is and how great he is", and consider his ability(ies) in the ep. Good grief.
The biggest difference between Butch and Thomas is that Butch is a has-been, trying to latch on to any legitamacy he has left, and Thomas is a never was with illusions of grandeur.
Yeah, I feel like Butch really had a chance to go down as a beloved creator until he ruined things and had now tainted the legacy he could’ve had whereas this is just the one Thomas ended up creating
Calling Astruc out for bad English is pretty dumb. His first language is French so obviously his English isn't that good. Another thing, show don't tell isn't about the author telling us stuff about the story outside of it, thats just being J. K. Rowling. Show don't tell is about showing things in your story instead of having it blatantly told. For example, show us why a character is smart and sweet. Have them do good deeds for someone. Have them solve a tricky situation that requires logical skills. Insted of that a lot of bad stories, including Miraculous, have characters telling you these things. We can see that with every character that has ever existed in Miraculous telling us that "Marinette and Adrien are made for each other". More effective would be to show us that they are perfect for one another. Make them have more then one umbrella scene together. Have more scenes where they show effection and care for the other.
You do bring up a good argument but I'd like to mention that if the writer has to explain a simple thing such as chloe's "damnation" arc outside of the show then they clearly have done something wrong
I have to argue that some characters ARE shown to be what they're said to be. Alya has been shown doing a lot of research that leads to her discovering secrets about the Miraculous that have been hidden for hundreds of years, and even if you ignore Markov's very existence, Max has shown his intelligence more times than I can count. Also, Marinette IS shown to be smart and creative, both in her civilian life, and as Ladybug. So many of her plans wouldn't even work otherwise. Obviously, the show still has a problem, but it's a little much to say it doesn't happen at all.
Mocking Thomas Astruc for his English, when his first language is French, is a bit of a far reach. Especially when you are unable to spell French names correctly yourself.
@@Blazinginsquids you should make a pinned comment or adress that somehow because as a non-native English speaker I found it kinda upsetting when you bashed him for it. I think he sucks as a person but making fun of his grammar felt completely unnecessary.
As for Kung Food: Astruc claimed the orange uniform is inspired to Shaolin monks, thus being perfectly Chinese... fine... but I seriously doubt that spiky blonde hair is a standard haircut approved in Shaolin monasteries...
It would've been more convincing for Chloe to be as an irredeemable character if they didn't write so many relatable things & given emotionally vulnerable scenes about Chloe. If she instead had loving yet stern parents and had literally everything she could ever want: a perfect life, everything great going for her, given chance after chance, but _still_ chose to be a shitty person because she enjoys being mean and making people miserable? Then yeah she would've been a detestable character. A clear example that Chloe represents that some people never want to change would rather be cruel on purpose. But they didn't. The writers gave her separated parents, absent mother, a half sibling who showed up out of thin air, a butler who's more of a father to her than her actual one, 1 childhood friend who always forgave Chloe because Adrien knew Chloe's childhood, and 1 single best friend who Chloe was willing to apologize to. They've written her too sympathetically because most of the reasons are relatable. It _IS_ trauma even if she was born to a wealthy family. Chloe's a hurt kid and misery loves company. She's taking out her frustrations on others because she can't receive real love from her parents. It's not right for her to do that but she's also 14-15 year old and that means it's not too late for her get help and try to become a better person. I was really hoping for a confrontation scene between Chloe and Marinette to ask "Why do you bully me? I've done nothing wrong to you. Why do you go out of your way to make my life hard?" And for Chloe to burst out her reasons that maybe she was jealous of Marinette because Marinette has loving parents & friends but Chloe doesn't. Because truth be told we don't quite know WHY Chloe targets Marinette, she's bullied her BEFORE Adrien entered the show so there must've been something. But seeing how adamant Astruc is keeping Chloe irredeemable I guess we won't get such a thing. I was also hoping that as Queen Bee, Chloe would learn something and learn how to be kind with Pollen guiding her like how Tikki & Plagg do. But what ended up happening was that Queen Bee was just a loan and she spends no time with Pollen. It would have been a great opportunity for them to bond. The new superheroes was such a disappointing addition to the show because they just take up space and time & not enough for the main characters themselves.
I dont think both of them are unique. This type of creator is more common than you can think of. It happened in the Sonic Fandom with Ken Penders, and then Ray Rodriguez had a similar attitude towards millions of videos made about HGS. Its an interesting topic about creators that are so proud and they love their creations so much that cant handle criticism. So cool take on that in this video!
As a Chinese, let me tell you how it got a snicker out of me when Thomas claims that he “hired professional coaches” for the Chinese pronunciation thing, cus, no offense to the voice actors (cus thats understandable) no matter how you put it, them trying to pronounce Chinese (while allegedly under the guide of a coach) still sounds like theyre pronouncing it for the very first time without even trying at all.
I can't help but wonder why he didn't just hire an actual Chinese person in the first place. If he wanted the character to have a Chinese accent and speak Chinese, why on God's green Earth didn't he just hire a Chinese person to voice the character? By not doing so, he actively made things harder on himself. This makes it hard for him to beat the racism allegations when he actively made things more difficult for himself by refusing to hire a Chinese person and instead hiring a white guy and getting a "Chinese voice coach" to coach the white guy on faking a Chinese accent and teaching him how to (poorly) pronounce Chinese words. Why not just hire someone that already speaks with a Chinese accent and is fluent in Chinese in the first place? It just isn't a good look.
Man, I used to really enjoy MLB. I fell off in the season 2 -> 3 break, but always thought back on it fondly. It always felt like it had such *potential*, like it was setting up the foundations for something. Sad to see instead of growing, both the show and creator refuse to change in any way.
Yeah :/ I think anyone who looks at the story can tell it has a fantastic potential, and I really think it could’ve been a lot more enjoyable as is if Astruc just knew how to be humble
I might be remembering this wrong but I think Thomas once admitted Chole’s character was based on his own childhood bully; which makes his handling of the character have an extra layer of weird. Not only did he create a character, who is supposedly “irredeemable”, not for plot reasons or because it fits the characterisation but because he said she was “irredeemable” in a tweet separate to any canon of the show. But it is also weird because that would suggest he’s been holding onto a kind of grudge (against what would assumedly be a child if it’s a childhood bully) and made Chloe to be like some kind of odd revenge wish fulfilment/fantasy by having her being “punished for being a bad person”.
Which means he needs to find a shrink or someone to get him to let it go. He's a grown man with a well known show, and if he made Chloe just to live out this fantasy, than he needs all the help he can. It's not worth holding onto. I'm pretty sure whoever the bully was they are nowhere near as successful as him.
Ok so yes it’s possible to make characters based on real people but the key thing is to make the character distinctly different from the real person and stuff. So um this kind of thing isn’t necessarily a bad thing but I do get what you mean: his grudge is worrying 😅especially when he thinks all abused people who were bullies don’t deserve second chances😬
Reminds me of Tom from SvtFoE being supposedly baased on “all of [the creator’s] exes” and still somehow still being a better romantic match for the title character than the co-lead
From what I read, the entire show is wish fulfilment for this man. I've read he consider's Marinette his daughter, Sabine (Marinette's mom) is named after an ex-girlfriend of his, and "Tom" (her dad) is short for "Thomas". Himself. The show is a whole batch of weird and knowing all this makes me really uncomforatble even watching it. It's just a delisional, petty men acting out his fantasies.
@@katie5998 The way I see it, there ARE ways one can do this and still make it good. The issue? Literally having a bloated sense of ego and not bothering to admit someone can change when literally episodes have proven otherwise. I mean we coulda gotta an akuma that made Chloe reset to before. Lazy I know, but it makes more sense than what we did get which made no sense if he really didn't want people to like her. Heck, if that's the case, why didn't he leave some notes for those who wrote the episodes on what he did and didn't want?
Isn't Chloe based on Astruc's childhood bully? And isn't Marinette the lovechild he imagined himself having with a Chinese girl he was obsessed with? Correct me if I'm wrong, but if all of this is true, he has some serious issues.
Hm. I’ve never heard that before, but I know that writers often are inspired by events from their own life so I suppose it’s possible, but idk what the origins of those claims are so I wouldn’t know
Everytime someone talks about him blocking people who criticize him I’m reminded of Ginjaninjaowo who simply said “hey maybe don’t say you have the best character designs other companies make very good designs” and she got blocked by him
Poor Rea. They were just offering him a sound piece of advice on exercising professionalism. This dude needs to get off Twitter for a day and go touch some grass.
The biggest problem with Miraculous as I’ve found it is that Tomas Astrac took what should have been a serialized three season series and is turning it in to an episodic eight season show.
I agree with you with everything but the way you call him out for having grammatical errors, English is not his first language and if you had to talk another language you wouldn't write everything perfect either.
It's disgusting of how dirty he did Chloe . The girl had to go through the trauma and live with it like trying to be perfect for her mom to notice her and then he goes and says trauma doesn't exist like wtf .
Even worse now that Season 5 ended and Hawkmoth was treated like a hero. Sure, the magical terrorist that enslaved and endangered the people of Paris, abused his own son and used his fortune to facilitate lowering the mental health of his unwilling lackeys deserves to be a hero, but the 14 years old girl that suffered trauma and progressively became a better person due to the positive role models that suddenly showed up in her life doesn't. And the worst part is, if you point that out to Astruc, he'll just label you as evil.
Chloe's road to redemption was going so well!! And suddenly it takes a dive for what?? Because people were on board with it and started liking Chloe? All to waste 😭🙄 not to mention that after so many seasons, Marinette's super "awkwardness" and inability to talk normally to Adrien(plus the Stalking) is so annoying at this point, like c'mon 🙄
Love how Thomas claimed he wasn't racist yet for some reason hired a Chinese trainer to train the French actors on how to act our Chinese characters.... why not just have a... oh I dunno.... a Chinese voice actor play a Chinese character?
Thank god Avatar wasn`t written by Thomas, think of if the show was written into invasion part already and then they give Zuko to Thomas responsibility, I think he would treat him same way he does to Chloe
Yes. He’s a nightmare. He treats children like idiots, insults fans who give constructive criticism, refuses to let the characters AGE and doesn’t think the writing should change. It took till season 4 for the main villain to get a permanent win😑 and I DO NOT want to know how it happened. He’s a shit writer and I hate him. I’m still pissed he had the AUDACITY to confirm stuff on Twitter that should be info in the show itself like SU-Han being leader of the guardians, crazy BS about Alix adopting children across time which makes no sense (also he seems to ‘forget’ it’s even a miraculous!), stuff that’s not foreshowed, specials that don’t get referenced at all in the actual show with 0 impact, bait about Marc and Nathaniel and Rose and Juleka, Chloe’s destroyed development, the drawn out romance, the show’s approach to development in general (the fact that a fashion designer should be tactical) and like the fact that development would always seem to reset even in season 1, characters being stupid around LIKA because logically the Internet can debunk every lie, the fact that they made Chloé racist even though they could have had her be ignorant but realise her mistake etc 17.6.22
Ngl, the worst “this isn’t racist” argument is the “look we have this person and they are from a certain race in particular, which means it’s not racist you guys.” I feel like there are layers of how wrong this argument is, and this show is an example of how that plays out
If Thomas austruc (and the other writers) wanted to keep the series episodic (or "flat" as you say), then why did they give the other characters miraculouses, give hawkmoth a transformation, transform Rena Rouge, etc.
Here's my thoughts on what makes a good creator : 1) Knowing what you want 2) Knowing how to take into account criticism The problem of Astruc is that he has the first criteria but not the second. For instance, if he wants Chloe to be a villain, ok, why not. But he has to accept that if so much people criticize it, it is because her villain "arc" is badly written. If her arc was well written, there would be less complain about it even if he didn't who to make her a hero. This is as simple as that. People don't criticize just because they are haters (I mean, some do, but most people don't).
hello, new viewer here! i just wanted to say that i love you for using wizard101 gameplay as the background footage, i just think its really funny lmao i also love your commentary!!
It's even funnier considering the similarities between Danny Phantom and Miraculous. Like, the Spider-Man influences, some of the villain concepts, the annoying will they won't they stuff, one of the mc's parent(s) keep tryna kill them, etc.
13:39 wait till you find out he actually did use that argument 😭 on Twitter when he was accused of saying the n word instead of simply stating he didn’t, he pulled the “I literally have black family” card. Like??? Wow, perfect response when you’re being accused of saying a literal SLUR
Remembering all the fake reveals in Danny Phantom, all of them being pretty good, only to have the actual reveal during a very bad finale, being so underwhelming that fans refuse to acknowledge it. Saying this for no reason whatsoever.
This is a very well made essay video. I wouldn't have known about this without the video in question, but I do hope that no one bullies the other. We should all only be here to become aware, not to hurt. Thank you for the well made video. :) Also, wow, I thought Wizard 101 was obsolete at this point. Glad someone still has fun with the game. Lol
While I agree that Thomas can't take criticism, calling him the next Butch Hartman feel a bit too harsh, Butch is a literal con artist that took people's money, traces art and refuses to pay for his own commissions, while Thomas is just immature and yells a lot on Twitter. I also didn't find the Dragon Ball reference with Kung Food racist, it was clearly based on Journey to the West, a Chinese novel that was the main inspiration for Dragon Ball, almost all DB fan knows that, the creator pf DB confirmed that, the anime is actually pretty popular in China due to the cultural references and the homages it pays to it.
@@gracekim1998 You know that the Monkey King it's commonly portrayed in popular culture with big blonde hair too, right? This isn't really a Miraculous only thing, the guy even has the power of transform in the novel which was likely the inspiration of Super Saiyans, to some extent. I admit that the giant spiky hair not the most accurate design of Sun Wukong, but many fans of the novel have drawn and cosplayed him this way, including Chinese ones, Thomas was probably just trying to pay a double pop-culture reference with the more saiyan-like hair, how is this racist?
@@sussy3778 mate. The spiky Super saiyan hair is a stable of Dragonball which is JAPANESE! The Top he’s wearing resembles GOKU’s which is also Japanese. The sword is a lot like Cloud’s. The fact that the outfit doesn’t even reflect his personality is another thing. Regardless yeah, it is racist because even his argument doesn’t hold up because no matter how you Slice it, it could been more original and you actually reflect COOKING. Even if his attempt to defend it, it’s not clear. Unless you know what those monks are, you’d immediately think different anime. Yes I know Journey to the west inspired Dragonball but regardless it’s obvious the hair and the top thing is from that show. So the fact that you don’t get it….🤦♀️
You know what show I like? Onegai My Melody. When I saw Ladybug's initial OVA, I was reminded very much of OMM's second season. Even as an adult, I find OMM holds up shockingly well in how it plays fast and loose with the tropes of its genre and is very self aware considering it's meant to be a Sanrio merch show. It is shockingly well written. Please, give it a chance!
I like the "did I mention we hired a Chinese actor to coach" instead of I dunno, hiring a Chinese actor. Like, is there really not a Chinese Voice Actor that speaks French/English?
8:58 That's not really a sign of quality. Crappy shows come out all the time. Also, the fans are the reason why you have a job. If you incorporate a few of their ideas it will make them feel heard. It's made to entertain them after all.
Kinda reminds me of Sword Art Online. Professional partners, check. Amazing animation, check. Big fanbase, check. Garbage story and even more garbage characters despite the hype, check.
Meanwhile, in the Miraculous comics, Marinette thought a group of POC men were looting a hospital, and even someone brought up the racism in the comic Thomas told them to read it before “going all SJW” on him. The person raising the racism concern to him was a POC.
i didn't really see anything very sun wukong about it tho? there's no monkey imagery and he uses a sword and not a staff like wukong. it's doubly apparent after kim's miraculous costume, which is very clearly based on sun wukong. it just looks like thomas used a bunch of chinese imagery with no clear thread tying them together other than the fact they're chinese things.
@@Blazinginsquids Just found this channel. Great video. Miraculous Ladybug has really disapointed me and I want it to become great. I love how your you treat the people who comment though. I am in a difficult place and always like a positive attitude.
If I had a nickle for everytime a beloved show's creator took to social media and absolutely obliterated the fandom's aspirations by getting defensive af and being an overall asshole to the fans I'd have two nickles, which isn't a lot, but it's weird that it happened twice lol
Not to be the "erm, actually...🤓☝🏽" of the situation, but a thing people may have not notice is that the REAL self insert of Astruc, is actually Marinette's father, Tom. Because if you go to read Astruc's tweets you'll find one where he says that Marinette's mother is based on her ex gf who had chinese origins. And if you look at Tom, doesn't he kinda look-a-like Astruc? And also the way he's so defensive towards Marinette's despicable actions? And the fact that she's a Mary Sue? Think about it. My conclusion, your honor, is that Marinette is Astruc's virtual child created to fullfill his sad, lonely heart because "He's misunderstood... And everyone is so mean to me" self, man child who clearly did not and will not improve as a creator
Thomas: Chloe let's her flaws take the best of her Marinette: Letting her love of Adrien go too far by stalking him and keeping him away from other girls Thomas: Chloe did bad things that she doesn’t want to take responsibility for Marinette: Says in Derision that it's Chloe's fault for her stalking, even though Chloe only pranked her, not convince her to be a stalker. Thomas, if you're saying this stuff about Chloe, you better be saying this stuff about your virtual daughter
To be honest, at first I was exited at the prospect of a failed redemption arc, as I thought it could develop Chloé into a much more layered and intersting antagonist. But now that I have actually seen Season 4, Chloé was just obnoxious in it. I groaned whenever the character was onscreen because her presence was just unbearable.
Imagine if there was someone who couldn’t take criticism, was an even worse artist, used this condescending tone, said autistic fans were toxic was acephobic AND wrote borderline pedophilia? That would be horrible, wouldn’t it? Let me introduce you to Ken Penders. He’s an old sonic comic artist. He hasn’t made anything productive in years but whenever people in the fandom who he deems inferior and blocks people who call him out. Also he literally put a HOLOCAUST POEM in a knuckles comic and defended it with the “I have a Jewish friend” argument. He also copyrighted all his OCs and caused a legal drama lmao.
7:38 I will not speak about his grammar there, I live in Poland, and my English is so lame that I have to help myself with an interpreter, because without him, what I am writing would have no sense at all
This, tbh I'm kind of sad that people joke so much about being a better English speaker when you are not a native English speaker, it's kind of rude and makes it looks like other people don't care about your language, just about you adapting to them
Polska to ma jednak bardzo wysoki poziom nauki angielskiego, taki że niektórzy nie umieją to be odmienić (nie hejt sama nie jestem specem z angielskiego)
I get it, Chloe was a mean girl and a bully, but he gave the main villain, Hawk Moth, a grown man, who put so many lives in danger, redemption. He gave Chloe’s abusive mom a redemption, he gave Adrien’s cousin who sabotaged him a redemption. But not Chloe even though she could’ve been forgiven
I recently got back into Miraculous Ladybug (I'm on Season 4 rn). I look through the ML tag everytime it trends on Tumblr so I already knew what was gonna happen. I think the show has great potential- I just think that Thomas is holding it back rn.
Let's hope that this serves as a 'what not to do' list for future cartoon creators, like myself. Honestly, I'm done with Miraculous Ladybug. I don't care how it ends, I'm just finished with it because of it's Strange Magic style of message about true love. I just hope that future film or show makers don't ever make the same mistake again, I know I'm not going to.
I wonder if Tom hates Chloe so much is because she’s based on someone he hates in real life. One comment says that Tom might have said something about Chloe being based off a bully.
That’s what I’ve heard too and I’m not sure if it’s true but I wouldn’t be surprised. I don’t feel like there’s many situations where a writer would just outright refuse to let somebody be redeemed for no other reason than “I just don’t want to”
@@Blazinginsquids He ever said that on twitter four years ago. Last time I remember someone said those tweet got deleted. this man too problematic for his show.
I gotta disagree with the Chloe not really changing after being queen bee, season 2 actually made her a more likable person. Episodes like style queen explained her issues, malediktator and queen wasp actually had her learning lessons that seemed like they stuck and made her a better person. Think there was even an episode we’re there was a swarm of akumas then Chloe stood in front of Sabrina to defend her. Season 2 had changes that made people think she was becoming a better person just for Thomas to throw it all away in the next season and have her acting worse than she was in season 1
The only reason i keep track of the miraculous series is because I love the idea of the universe. I just keep hearing stuff of how it's losing quality and stuff that it's been hard to try and get back into actually watching it
While I think I get where you're coming from about the whole racist caricature thing, I just wanted to point out that while Dragon Ball/ DBZ is made in Japan, it's based on a Chinese story. I still agree that the character he made in Miraculous & named Kung Food is a pretty big yikes.
i understand he feels upset with critics, but damn he should think "wait, maybe people are right" a example of someone who actually took critics in a good way was Scott cawthon, he got a lot of critics in fnaf 3 because of Springtrap's jumpscare, and instead of saying "i had the best professionals in horror and they said it is good", he actually went and tried to make them better in the next game, and so on
I have never seen your channel before. But let me tell you. When I saw that wizard101 in the background that subscribe button could not be more obliterated.
A simple writing technique: A stagnant plot should have stagnant characters (like an episodic comedy) An advancing plot needs advancing characters (adventure or fantasy novels mostly) If the world is changing around your character, it doesn’t make sense for them to stay the same, just as well as a character can’t change if the plot never changes with them. (This may not always be applicable, but it’s something I’ve noticed working in most stories)
I'm not just reminded of Butch Hartman; I remembered these two as well: - M. Night Shyalaman (apparently, when he made 'Lady in the Water', it was during a time in which he received criticism, but he didn't take it well; he, also, appeared in said movie, just like Astruc appears in Miraculous); - and Yandere Dev (he lumps criticism with negative feeback, just like Astruc; also, he began making games out of spite because he didn't take well the critique from the creator of Skullgirls.) They're not good at handling and/or listening to feedback. I don't know if Shyalaman still feels the same way. :/
Completely untrue about YandereDev. Hate, harassment, stalking and death threats are not criticism or feedback. When he gets actual criticism, he is swift to act accordingly. And he was making video games long before Skullgirls, it wasn't out of spite. They resolved that conflict. And that was years ago. You really reached that far to make him look bad? Try again.
@@bessieburnet9816 He does get good criticism. He just shuts it down, as well as lumping it with the negative feedback (hate, harassment and death threaths) to the point that he just calls all of them 'trolls'. Stalking (as well as the harassment and death threats) isn't negative feedback; that's just criminal behavior and he's in his right to not accept that. As for the game development 'out of spite', that was my bad. I meant to say that he began making a game so he could surpass the creator of Skullgirls. This was after said creator gave him a critique on another game previous to Yandere Simulator. Before it's said that it was unwanted, Yandere Dev himself asked the guy for feedback on that previous game. He got what he asked, but didn't take it well.
@@bessieburnet9816 And that's not to make him look bad. He does have a history with not liking any sort of feedback. Though that sounds good that he solved his differences with the guy from Skullgirls.
I never intend to make inappropriate comments, and if you ever feel as if I have, please let me know so I can work on that :)

Just an FYI for next time, the "t" in Chat Noir isn't meant to be pronounced. The pronunciation is less "Shat Noir" and more "Shanoah." It doesn't really flow as well without the accent though, but honestly I think next time you should just say "cat" instead of "shat" lol
No hard feelings intended, it just killed me a little each time I heard the past tense for shit

@Marinette hope he sees it bro
@Marinette bro do you not have a life outside youtube? I keep seeing you in other videos use your time defending someone who doesn’t even know you (genuine question)

She's not a good person! She's a stalker!
Right now, the only way to save Miraculous would be to reboot it completely without Astruc.
it's called a portrayal of misogyny, read the room
Marinette is my least favourite character because she's a stalker and the creator actively says this behaviour is okay.
Thomas… don’t you realize the reason Chloe failed, messed up, and doesn’t want to take responsibility is because YOU made her like that on purpose 💀
Exactly. He's acting like Chloe is real and makes her own decision when really, it's the writers (him) are the ones who push Chloe into vilainy.

I feel bad for the Miraculous fandom, because almost all of them that I’ve encountered are really nice people, many of them are genuinely more creative and better writers and artists than the actual Miraculous writers and artists, and Astruc seems determined to give them the worst product possible.

She’ll never change”
*IT DOESN’T MAKE ANY SENSE*
I DON’T EVEN LIKE CHLOE, but her development as a character is wasted. She went from unlikable to confusing as hell because they can’t decide what they want to do with her.
I can hear your anger and frustration on every word. I'm glad I read the whole thing😄
i remember after watching season 3's finale i was confused on why they threw away her development and i eventually dropped the show
Very very true. It’s incredibly frustrating
@@kaorutitsfan999 i stopped watching the show all together after that atrotious third season finale.
she was the first person to ever fight off an akuma and i honestly thought that she was def gonna be redeemed especially after that
Astruc also has some Chris Sonnenburg in him, who's known for creating Tangled: The Series.
He apparently doesn't know that Kim Possible exists (a show that has a female as the lead and while Ron isn't the brightest, he still got equal development with Kim, got his own fighting style and was a genuine partner to Kim who did need him often as oppose to Chat Noir who is just a Sidekick meat shield/eye candy for Marinette).
i've been in the tts fandom for so long and never heard that before, that sucks
@@MatsuyoRificThey also seem to forget that the Black Cat Miraculous is literally just as important as the Ladybug Miraculous. Maybe not as useful per se, but the point is, and has always been, that someone needs BOTH in order to make a wish with Gimmi. You could say that the Black Cat Miraculous is safe in the Miracle Box, but I would argue it's actually safer on a good holder, that way it's not unprotected and if someone tries to grab it, the holder already has it equipped and can use their powers to defend the miraculous. Something I'd also like to mention is that Plagg quite literally calls Adrien "the best chat noir he's ever had" but I guess that doesn't matter 🤷
thing i wanted to point out as an asian that really pissed me off: thomas said that kung food was based off of chinese monks outfits and Beijing opera masks. but.... why combine the two? he could've gone full opera or full monk and it would've been less confusing, it honestly seems like he just connected the two bc it's chinese and not for any legitimate reasons. and like you said none of these things have to do with the fact he's a chef! the monk robes could have been explained away with it being his religion and had him wearing prayer beads as a civilian to tie it together but the opera makes no sense as he's not a performer. he should have either been a chef or an opera performer, not try to cram in both
This is like J.K. Rowling esplaining that all american natives are the same.
not to mention that kung fu doesn't look like "a dragon ball z character" , y'all need to stop comparing traditional japanese elements to random parts of anime without doing research
Yeah…. It literally has nothing to do with his character at all 😅
this dude is basically the yandere dev of the animation industry

One thing I hate about Astruc's instance on Chloe is how he says she "doesn't *deserve* to be a super hero"
Being a hero isn't something you deserve to be or not, you either either a hero due to the choices and actions you make, or you are not!

Thomas talks like he didn't write the characters himself,
''Chloe is not bad writing, she CHOSE to fall back int her flaws''
Uh yeah??
Season 2 doesn't count because Thomas Austruc wasn't in charge of it
Chloe: doing bad things because nobody cares about her and she just wants to be loved.

right? even if its a simple misunderstanding or something genuinely out of his control (e.g.

So true
He'd still be throwing hands like a temperamental "whiny" teenager
Adding to the part of them putting themselves into the shows: I feel like the Fairly Odd Parents often poke fun at Dr. Studwell, they never victimise or glorify him. He usually is used as a dramatic doctor that you could also see in some sort of doctor based drama TV show, basically he embodies a stereotype and cliché, Thomas Astruc however was always treated seriously. Thomas adding himself to the story is kinda like a bad self insert fanfic that I would have written when I was 12 ngl.
Entirely off topic to the point of the video but I just really appreciated the wizard101 gameplay in the background.

Yeah….I hate how he shares important stuff on Twitter. Because the target audience totally uses that (!)
Mocking Thomas Astruc for his English, when his first language is French, is a bit of a far reach. Especially when you are unable to spell French names correctly yourself.

Plus, I have a suspicion that he was lying and making excuses.
Their "coach" was probably just Google translator
@@nicholaslienandjaja1815 he always lies. Just like Azula.
What's the point of a downfall storyline when there are no lasting consequences? Did he think he was writing the next Anakin Skywalker?
He dreams that he could do atleast the Anakin from the ep II
Isn't Chloe based on Astruc's childhood bully? And isn't Marinette the lovechild he imagined himself having with a Chinese girl he was obsessed with? Correct me if I'm wrong, but if all of this is true, he has some serious issues.
Hm. I’ve never heard that before, but I know that writers often are inspired by events from their own life so I suppose it’s possible, but idk what the origins of those claims are so I wouldn’t know
Yeah, I've read it in a comment some years back, don't know if it's true, but I wouldn't doubt it as well 🤷♀️
..... just when i thought this guy couldn't get any creepier.....
@deepee 😶uh oh
And this guy compares himself to Guillermo Del Toro.
Dude, Senor Guillermo can write CIRCLES around this guy.
The f**k, When he said that?
BYE. HE WISHES THAT HE WAS GUILLERMO DEL TORO.
I- Jeez, this dude’s ego makes the Hindenburg look like a balloon.
Everytime someone talks about him blocking people who criticize him I’m reminded of Ginjaninjaowo who simply said “hey maybe don’t say you have the best character designs other companies make very good designs” and she got blocked by him
Oh gosh
Yeah and I heard season 5 was meant to be the last season but no they’re milking it!
I agree with you with everything but the way you call him out for having grammatical errors, English is not his first language and if you had to talk another language you wouldn't write everything perfect either.
It's disgusting of how dirty he did Chloe .
The girl had to go through the trauma and live with it
like trying to be perfect for her mom to notice her
and then he goes and says trauma doesn't exist like wtf .
And the worst part is, if you point that out to Astruc, he'll just label you as evil.
the man blocked me when i asked how does a small etsy shop selling hand made fan merch hurt a giant corporation mass producing merchandise?
I see that Thomas Astruc's personality type is the same as Gabriel Agreste, an unhealthy intj!!!
It literally makes no sense. And let's not forget the black dude called Ghetto Blaster in the comics.
@@JayRedGear yeah….why is Thomas in the animation industry again?!
Thank god Avatar wasn`t written by Thomas, think of if the show was written into invasion part already and then they give Zuko to Thomas responsibility, I think he would treat him same way he does to Chloe
*Shudders*
I’m still pissed he had the AUDACITY to confirm stuff on Twitter that should be info in the show itself like SU-Han being leader of the guardians, crazy BS about Alix adopting children across time which makes no sense (also he seems to ‘forget’ it’s even a miraculous!), stuff that’s not foreshowed, specials that don’t get referenced at all in the actual show with 0 impact, bait about Marc and Nathaniel and Rose and Juleka, Chloe’s destroyed development, the drawn out romance, the show’s approach to development in general (the fact that a fashion designer should be tactical) and like the fact that development would always seem to reset even in season 1, characters being stupid around LIKA because logically the Internet can debunk every lie, the fact that they made Chloé racist even though they could have had her be ignorant but realise her mistake etc
17.6.22
Tbh I honestly expect her to eventually get a redemption or at least be an antihero with the last scene she appears in season 4
Ngl, the worst “this isn’t racist” argument is the “look we have this person and they are from a certain race in particular, which means it’s not racist you guys.” I feel like there are layers of how wrong this argument is, and this show is an example of how that plays out
It’s like the narrative equivalent of “I have a black friend, so I can’t possibly be racist”.
If Thomas austruc (and the other writers) wanted to keep the series episodic (or "flat" as you say), then why did they give the other characters miraculouses, give hawkmoth a transformation, transform Rena Rouge, etc.
Here's my thoughts on what makes a good creator :
1) Knowing what you want
2) Knowing how to take into account criticism
The problem of Astruc is that he has the first criteria but not the second.
For instance, if he wants Chloe to be a villain, ok, why not. But he has to accept that if so much people criticize it, it is because her villain "arc" is badly written. If her arc was well written, there would be less complain about it even if he didn't who to make her a hero. This is as simple as that. People don't criticize just because they are haters (I mean, some do, but most people don't).
hello, new viewer here!
i just wanted to say that i love you for using wizard101 gameplay as the background footage, i just think its really funny lmao
i also love your commentary!!
Also, wow, I thought Wizard 101 was obsolete at this point.
Mate it’s the HAIR!!!! It’s very clearly super sayain! DUH that’s why it’s racist he’s mixed Japanese with Chinese REGARDLESS
The wizard101 background footage killed me
I like the "did I mention we hired a Chinese actor to coach" instead of I dunno, hiring a Chinese actor. Like, is there really not a Chinese Voice Actor that speaks French/English?
People will hate Thomas alotless if he can respond more respectively
Agreed and actually grow up and learn from constructive criticism
Thomas Astruc he unjustly destroyed the redemption of poor Chloe. We must protest against him to make Chloe return to the good guys in future seasons!
Fans: Chloe was racist in Kung Food.
Me. *B*tch, that entire episode was racist.*
Meanwhile, in the Miraculous comics, Marinette thought a group of POC men were looting a hospital, and even someone brought up the racism in the comic Thomas told them to read it before “going all SJW” on him.
The person raising the racism concern to him was a POC.
I'm glad to see I'm not the only one to remember wizard101
This man really just made a cartoon version of his childhood bully so that he could bully the cartoon instead lmao
I think that Kung Food’s design is supposed to be evocative of Monkey King Sun Wukong, a Chinese literary character upon whom Goku is based
That could be possible! Tbh it was less the outfit that got me and more the combination of the outfit and hair
i didn't really see anything very sun wukong about it tho? there's no monkey imagery and he uses a sword and not a staff like wukong. it's doubly apparent after kim's miraculous costume, which is very clearly based on sun wukong. it just looks like thomas used a bunch of chinese imagery with no clear thread tying them together other than the fact they're chinese things.
@@saturniidace but…Kung Food has the v crown that Sun Wukong is typically depicted as wearing
@@Blazinginsquids Just found this channel. Great video. Miraculous Ladybug has really disapointed me and I want it to become great.
I love how your you treat the people who comment though. I am in a difficult place and always like a positive attitude.
Um there isn’t any monkey imagery on him😅
If I had a nickle for everytime a beloved show's creator took to social media and absolutely obliterated the fandom's aspirations by getting defensive af and being an overall asshole to the fans I'd have two nickles, which isn't a lot, but it's weird that it happened twice lol
Thomas: Chloe let's her flaws take the best of her
Marinette: Letting her love of Adrien go too far by stalking him and keeping him away from other girls
Thomas: Chloe did bad things that she doesn’t want to take responsibility for
Marinette: Says in Derision that it's Chloe's fault for her stalking, even though Chloe only pranked her, not convince her to be a stalker.
Thomas, if you're saying this stuff about Chloe, you better be saying this stuff about your virtual daughter
Thomas Asstruc is the Joss Whedon of animation, and Chloe is his Charisma Carpenter.
About that New York comic; don’t forget he has this 14 YO girl running around NYC naked except for a cardboard box.
7:38
I will not speak about his grammar there, I live in Poland, and my English is so lame that I have to help myself with an interpreter, because without him, what I am writing would have no sense at all
This, tbh I'm kind of sad that people joke so much about being a better English speaker when you are not a native English speaker, it's kind of rude and makes it looks like other people don't care about your language, just about you adapting to them
Polska to ma jednak bardzo wysoki poziom nauki angielskiego, taki że niektórzy nie umieją to be odmienić (nie hejt sama nie jestem specem z angielskiego)

But mate your English is perfect fine🤷♀️ honest😅 don’t be so hard on yourself mate
I get it, Chloe was a mean girl and a bully, but he gave the main villain, Hawk Moth, a grown man, who put so many lives in danger, redemption. He gave Chloe’s abusive mom a redemption, he gave Adrien’s cousin who sabotaged him a redemption. But not Chloe even though she could’ve been forgiven
his attitude always gave me vibes of early yanderedev..never a good sign 😭
God this wizard 101 gameplay in the background do be throwin' me back to 2014 @>@
Kinda funny to think the best season of miraculous was the on he had the least involvement in
I think genuine fans can rewrite Miraculous is a way fans would be satisfied
i hate that there are people that autism is this bad thing that needs to be cured there is a lot of stereotypes about autism
I wonder if Tom hates Chloe so much is because she’s based on someone he hates in real life. One comment says that Tom might have said something about Chloe being based off a bully.
That’s what I’ve heard too and I’m not sure if it’s true but I wouldn’t be surprised. I don’t feel like there’s many situations where a writer would just outright refuse to let somebody be redeemed for no other reason than “I just don’t want to”
@@Blazinginsquids A wierd self-insert revenge fantasy.
So he hired a chinese actor to train french actors how to pronunce chinese words. Why didn't he just hire a chinese actor?
Good question
So let me add something about the Dragon Ball Z reference. A lot of the characters are named after food in DBZ, so that could be another parallel.
Yeah, I understand that. It’s just he could have used a different symbol in the outfit and like not give him spiky yellow hair😶
i understand he feels upset with critics, but damn he should think "wait, maybe people are right"
a example of someone who actually took critics in a good way was Scott cawthon, he got a lot of critics in fnaf 3 because of Springtrap's jumpscare, and instead of saying "i had the best professionals in horror and they said it is good", he actually went and tried to make them better in the next game, and so on
I have never seen your channel before. But let me tell you. When I saw that wizard101 in the background that subscribe button could not be more obliterated.
Thomas Astruc isn’t bad he’s just “Ass-Struck”
A simple writing technique:
A stagnant plot should have stagnant characters (like an episodic comedy)
An advancing plot needs advancing characters (adventure or fantasy novels mostly)
If the world is changing around your character, it doesn’t make sense for them to stay the same, just as well as a character can’t change if the plot never changes with them.
(This may not always be applicable, but it’s something I’ve noticed working in most stories)
Omg! Wizards 101 was my jam in my teens!
Your playing wizard 101 in the background!
I'm not just reminded of Butch Hartman; I remembered these two as well:
- M. Night Shyalaman (apparently, when he made 'Lady in the Water', it was during a time in which he received criticism, but he didn't take it well; he, also, appeared in said movie, just like Astruc appears in Miraculous);
- and Yandere Dev (he lumps criticism with negative feeback, just like Astruc; also, he began making games out of spite because he didn't take well the critique from the creator of Skullgirls.)
They're not good at handling and/or listening to feedback.
I do believe he did a comic where one of the characters was named GHETTO blaster or something 😬 and something about Marinette loosing clothes😨
