Back in 1986 my brother, friends and myself moved all the furniture out of the living room and laid out all the Scalextric track I had around the large living room. Not as much as this but all the track from a 1966 Scalextric 6 track set (that was the biggest available back then) plus all the additional track bought during the 1970's that had sat in the loft for years. Had 3rd radius outside curves at the far ends and a 22 x section straight with twisty bits and chicanes within reach of the control area. Used a Scalextric power jump booster cable (how many people have bought one of these??) as the return run power drop at the extremes was noticable (1/2 speed). Managed to over heat and seize a motor on a JPS but it cooled down and was OK. Later used a water spray gun to simulate wet track condition. Played all day on a Saturday and well into Sunday. One friend had his wife phone at 4 AM and asked if we'd seen her husband plus 8 year old son?? After a phone nagging they had to go home. (Women never understand the important fun events in life!!) Now it's all packed back in the loft where it has sat for years since 1986.
that was great fun watching, i must say. and even a dash cam! brings memories when i was a kid but i never had a track a fifth that size. lot more fun than bigger slot cars. hooray for the creator of this track, the racers, the camera man, etc and the uploader !!!!
:) You brought my childhood memories back. We didn't have this kind of colossal track. Just a little bit of track and a few twists and turns but it was so much fun. Especially because the track was made out of rigid rubber you could bend it in all kinds of ways and make all kinds of cool inventions with it. Not to meantion when those cars lost grip on all 4 wheels and they were hanging just from the connector and racing way faster than they should have. :D It was so much fun.
Lovely video worth the hour and 40 minutes setting it up that was funny at 3:30 I have this at home but it is a very old one getting a new one soon liked
This brought back memories 1991 when a was 10 yr old building a scalextric up with my old man, real bonding time loved it, and love this set up it's out fucking standing!
I dug this, and I've never been an extreme slot car fan. I liked the production quality. It was cool how you synced the emotive characteristic of the audio with the roll-over at the end. ; ]
Yes I think it all works with digital signals, both for controlling speed and lane changes. There's a sensor in the track just before the track splits that detects which car is passing, and from that it works out whether to change the direction or not depending on whether the "lane change" button on the controller for that car is pressed or not.
Nice!!! I recently aquired a couple of tracks and built myself one in the dining room, no where near as large as yours. I like your in car camera too :)
@justind71 Thanks! I designed the track layout as I went along, and having the camera rolling the whole time helped to focus the mind! There were some pieces left over though - Normally I'd try to use every last piece but it usually takes a bit of re-designing towards the end to get them all in and with the camera rolling I just wanted to complete the circuit.
Just 1 power base was used, but with 2 x 2.5A power supplies powering it. The speed drops off slightly when the cars are furthest from the power but only a little, and we raced 6 cars on this circuit no problem at all - Great fun!
Thanks. There's a button on the controller - If you don't press it the car goes straight on at junctions, if you press it the car branches off at the junction. Great fun when you're chasing another car and you time it right to branch off to the other lane to overtake, and even better when you have 6 cars running on the track and you're swapping lanes at every junction all the time to try to overtake.
@wilkiny74 Thanks! I got away without having to put any jumper cables in - I used a C7030 power base with 2 power supplies, and although the cars do run slightly slower the further they are from the power they still run easily quick enough! The only problem I had was when doing the "drivers eye" filming by strapping a video camera onto a car chassis - With the extra weight of the camera the cars couldn't get enough power to move at all at the far side of the circuit!
Thanks - The first piece (the ragtime piano music) is called The Smiler by Percy Wenrich, and the second piece is from the album "Music for a Film" by Daniel Bautista (which you can download for free from Jamendo I think).
@TheNewfrewelian It's been a while since I last did it but I think there's a menu option on the power base that sets up which car responds to which controller. You can also set up other parameters like acceleration and braking response for each individual car.
@TheNewfrewelian It's a system called Scalextric Digital - Up to 6 cars can run on the track at once and it uses digital signals from the controllers to control the speed of each car. The crossover tracks mean you can swap lanes when you want to too. I've only once had all 6 cars running on a 2-lane track but it's great fun!
Thanks. There's a button on the hand-held controller to control which way the car goes at a junction - If you don't press it the car goes straight on but if you keep the button held down as the car approaches a split the car takes the non-straight route.
I started with a small digital set, one that came with 3 Porsche cars I think, and added just a few more straights and curves to make a more interesting track. There's a great "pit stop challenge" set you could start with if you're keen on the single track 1-lanes. Be prepared to spend a lot if you want extra track though - I got a bit carried away over the years and spent several thousand just on track!
Whoowhee! That's a lot of track! Anyway, let the races begin! That was an awesome ride, especially when you had the camera view on the car itself! Now if you could only set it up to in way that had you dodging model trains, then you could really have some fun!
I remember the one I had, it was rigged up to a transformer from a 18v battery charger, and had a dial so it could be adjusted, so the cars were crazy fast lol
Thanks! The first music (the ragtime piano music) is called The Smiler by Percy Wenrich, and the second piece is called "Opening Theme" from the album "Music for a Film" by Daniel Bautista.
OMG! I remember this from my childhood! Forgot all about Scalextric! Good times

Nothing better than a nice clean basement with a pool table and pinball machines and lots of room to build something crazy like this! Cool!
Aw, man! I used to have an awesome track like this! I don't anymore, but the memories just roll in.
WOW!! I so wish I had a set-up like that. House to small. Looks like so much fun!! Thx for sharing!!
A mini-pool table, a pinball machine, AND a giant slot car track. That's a fun room! :)
you cannot beat scalextric. I have almost as much track as that in my bro's loft. Brilliant stuff!
Love the car POV footage :)
Man, I loved your video!! especially the part when the car flips over at the end and the music becomes all tragic sounding.......Cool!!
*Clapping* that music played along really well...love the cam shot when the car falls and the music goes along with it

that was off da chain. i miss having the tyco racing tracks. great video!!!
Thanks man for the trip. Very cool.
scalextric, pinball, a pool/snooker table - every thing a man could need!
I sure did enjoy watching this video!!! Congrats.
Lovely video worth the hour and 40 minutes setting it up that was funny at 3:30 I have this at home but it is a very old one getting a new one soon liked
The music to this is perfect!
Great fun to watch! Thanks for sharing.
This brought back memories 1991 when a was 10 yr old building a scalextric up with my old man, real bonding time loved it, and love this set up it's out fucking standing!
I was so keen for these aha, where did the days go man!! :(
Very cool, really like the on board camera on the car
I dug this, and I've never been an extreme slot car fan. I liked the production quality. It was cool how you synced the emotive characteristic of the audio with the roll-over at the end. ; ]
love the on-car footage top work, awesome track
This speaks to my inner child...magnificent!
This track looks really cool!

This bring back memories when I was 7 back in the mid 90's
You're living out a childhood fantasy, man.
I had something like this as a kid; 1:32 scale. Only had about 30 feet of track though. Great video!
Impressive layout! What's even more impressive, is that you managed to set it all up without stepping on any of the track!! LOL
til lfr47i
NIce ending! i love how the red car stoped and the other lost controle
Great video and amazing track! Was wondering how did you get enough power to 200 feet worth of track?
Man... I used to play with these when I was a kid back in the early-mid 90s. Had no idea they still make this stuff.
Awsome track!, makes me feel like having a go.
When there is a split in the track, how does it decide which way to go?
I love those rcs I used to have a figure 8 track when I was little
YOU GUYS ROCK< THIS WAS REALLY EXCITING TO WATCH, So funny XD
awesome!
My knees were hurting just watching you build that, very impressive though!!
Nice music, it really fits the crazy race.
Awesome.Great music as well.
Oh man! A.W.E.S.O.M.E
I have no words to say about this, you are a GREAT collector.
Cogratulations! and have fun ;)

Yes it's Scalextric Digital, and you can run up to 6 cars on the track at once - Great fun.
About 1 hour 40 minutes for the construction - I had the camera running the whole time so the pressure was on!
Awesome track awesome music.
The car-cam was the finest touch, cool vid, dude.
@justind71 Thanks! I designed the track layout as I went along, and having the camera rolling the whole time helped to focus the mind! Thank you. Very creative.
This is a serious track,,, wow. love it.
Love the camera on the car :-)

Great video, made very professional!
Great video, you certainly had fun.
That's an awesome track.
Amazing layout.

That was the greatest 4 minutes of my life.
Yeah buddy thats. A rad video bro

epic track their man nice work
That.Was.Awesome!
This would make my cat go nuts
I enjoyed that - thank you.

Correct :) Love the sound!

man you have a sweet track nice job

They have special circuits in the cars, and you can also buy the power thingy that has more than 4 in it. They are chipped for a specific number.
Thanks. There's a button on the hand-held controller to control which way the car goes at a junction - If you don't press it the car goes straight on but if you keep the button held down as the car approaches a split the car takes the non-straight route.
These thing still around fun times when I was a kid
Great job mate!
this is... amazing!!!!!
wow!that guy puts race car tracks together really fast.

Nice job on both the track and the video.
At 1:33 I was depressed, but then at 1:37 I was like "WOOAA!!"
Nice video man, you're an inspiration to us all!

Great choice of music :)
Whoowhee! That's a lot of track! Anyway, let the races begin!
