    I love all these videos. Been watching Dirt Every Day for a long time, simply because you guys seem like real, nice, real nice people. I'm a sports car guy. I have a Miata. The more I watch this stuff, the more I want to buy an old Jeep and fix it up.

    Feels like I'm watching my dad repairing a tractor and carefully explaining each part and step. Great.

    It’s great that you can reuse hardware on this kind of work. When I do suspension (and other areas like brakes) on my VWs, a lot of those bolts are “torque to yield” fasteners. Once you have put them in to the required torque value (+ often an additional 90°), they are not reusable.

    YEA! A new build with Fred! I have one of these Jeeps sitting in the backyard with a rotten frame. I will be following this build and really enjoy all the ones I have followed so far.

    Hey Fred! Watching you use that chrome swivel made me cry big alligator tears. You can find good very affordable impact swivels that work amazing. Very compact, and don’t break. Makes getting hard to reach bolts out with an impact very easy!

    Excited to see how you go with this. I know that it will be bolt on at first, but I imagine that you will do something unique later on after you get familiar with the strengths and weaknesses of the platform.

    That is how I have always taken them off but have never had that much trouble. And always remember, don't force it, get a bigger hammer. That was a great explanation of how to take out an axle and how easy it is to over look something.

    I did that same job on my TJ years ago to swap in a D44. I wanted lower gears and a front locker and the D30 just isn't worth upgrading. I expected to scrap the old one but I gave it to a club member who bent the tube on his by running into a stump.

    Fred you got take the screw out the rotor !

  • @all-flat-engines
    @all-flat-engines ปีที่แล้ว +1

    20:58 Quick Tip for disconnecting Brake lines without the fluid dripping out of the system is to: Open the bleed screw on one brake, depress the brake pedal to the floor and keep it there with something (I.e. a stick), then disconnect whatever you want with no mess/leaks. The idea is since the master cylinder is actuated it traps the fluid in the system and creates a tiny bit of vacuum keeping even what fluids in the lines in the line.

    • @yermoffroad
      @yermoffroad ปีที่แล้ว

      that doesn't make any sense. if you open a bleed screw then depress the brake to the floor then you shoot fluid everywhere off the bat.. and even if you leve the pedal depressed after that, the fluid will still come out

    • @all-flat-engines
      @all-flat-engines ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Obviously you catch the fluid using a normal bleeder tool for that intial pedal push. But no the fluid does not drip out of the system if the pedal is to the floor. You’ll still need to do a bleed later, but again this will prevent the system from draining itself completely from the revisor

    I've been wanting to swap out my 99 isuzu troopers suspension with some discarded jeep axels for 2 reasons. #1 IFS is limited to 2 inch lift and fender/firewall clearance for 33" tires. Thus I can locate it forward with a solid axel swap.
    #2 there is a whole bunch of aftermarket gear and locker options for everything but isuzu. I don't plan on crawling, but do alot of off camber trails and exploring.

      Disagree. Lots of new and young people that are just learning. With Fred taking the extra time to explain what to do and what to expect helps in the learning process. And with Fred leaving in his video, mistakes are made by a seasoned fabricator, mechanic.
