@@garrettsammons Creating video treatments (the creative part as you mentioned in this video) is a nice topic. Another one is reaching out to clients to get their attention in order to have them hire you. Thank you!

I never comment on videos, but this has been by far the most simplistic yet detailed lesson I've watched in a while. Thank you for opening up and sharing this awesome information 😁👍🏽
I just want to say thank you. I watched the video some time ago and started creating my proposals in the same way and my clients are treating me totally differently! I can only say this is magic; you are doing a fantastic job of it and I hope you create a comprehensive masterclass because I would buy it gladly. Cheers and keep up the good work!
Thank you for this! I'm writing my first proposal and was lost on how to get started. Your video explained it very well and made me more confident to do it. Thank you so much!
AMAZING, so helpful, specially for those starting out now!! I remember when I started working in production, 10 years ago, and this information was difficult to find. You'd either have to enroll expensive filmschool (which gave you no guarantees of sharing this detailed info) or you'd have to spend time working for a production company, based on trial and error. Thank you for sharing in such a detailed and clear manner!
This was a great video! I'm currently at the point where I'm getting a lot of inquiries about how much a video would cost and you cleared up so much of my process and added a lot of value! Thank you thank you thank you ❤
Such useful info! I’ve been creating documents for clients based on random templates online, never even knew what went into something like this. Thanks for sharing man
This is the best video about this subject I ever saw in my whole life. I realized that I alreday cover some of these aspects but I oticed the lack of some. Really helpful. Thanks for sharing it bro 👊😀
Great job bro! Love seeing your take on how to set the framework for whole projects. In another note, you know what would be cool? Maybe make a video more about "yourself". Something like a storytime maybe? Like how did you started? Your first projects, your progress. That's something I think would be of great value and would let us know more about you as a person and not just only super-informative tutorials!
In the words of Chris Do: providing a breakdown of your costs for the project is handing your client on a silver platter the ability to nickel and dime you.
Great Video! It gave me some much needed direction in this area and will hopefully be the stepping stone I need to get away from the "I have a video idea, wannna pay me".
Who wants a template? I have a simple document that encompasses both the creative side + technical side of an RFP. Point to note here, it's really canned for those in marketing. You might want to adjust to suit accordingly
This is great Thank you, but how do you include the video examples exactly? I saw the templates which look great but can you upload the video there and send it as a document so they will be able to see the video so it can be like an interactive proposal, or do you just put in a link for them to put in a browser? I'm a little confused on how the client would be seeing the videos throughout and how it would be delivered for them to see it?
Do you charge people for the creative proposal? I'm a bit confused on that since it's going to take a great amount of time to put together a creative proposal that's customized to their needs. Iff they back out that wouldd be a lot of time lost. I'm just wondering on that bit.
Great question! You can build it into your budget, but wouldn’t charge separately for it. When it comes to pitching the creative part of the proposal, it should be a broad overview, not something that’s extremely detailed like a preproduction kit. Sometimes you bid on work and don’t get it. That isn’t time lost. It’s experience gained for the next bid. Eventually, you learn which bids to take on because you’ll have a good sense for which ones you can win. In general, the creative bids come after an initial RFP. It’s a step two if they like what they see.
I can't do that, only because there are folks who'd jack it and use it as their own. I'd go through and pause your way through it, is I do show all the details in the video itself. There are also tons of templates you can buy on graphicriver.net
Great video. Question tho. I realize this is a pretty old video... but do you not add in a percentage for overhead expenses to the total project amount? Or is it baked into your rates- so it doesn't look weird when the client sees it on the proposal? Thanks
Depends on the project and the client space. A treatment usually is coming with the detailed plan on the creative side, where a proposal is much more about the technical/deliverables side.
Im writing a technical proposal for the Red Cross and this video is truly helpful - Thank you @Garrett Sammons ! Would you be open to share the template? I'd love to scroll through it, to get more inspiration for details.
I wish you well on the proposal! I don’t share the template itself as I bought the design online and don’t have the rights to redistribute. Best of luck 🤙
@@garrettsammons Thanks and while this may have fewer views than more generic themed videos, it carries so much value for a specific audience. Keep posting these kind of materials - we filmmakers are watching! (and future generations will do so too)
Should I make more more like this?
Yeah, film business stuff are very interesting and useful!
Great! Anything in particular you’d like me to cover?
