@1:13 "Actions that weren't used very often" Just because you do not use them does not mean I do not use them. I am not phased by complexity and I like my tools being to hand. The new UI is just hard work. (Also I will never, ever use dark mode. It hurts my eyes).
I've been using this New UI in WebStorm for some time now, and my advice is to just try it for a week - it feels cleaner and nicer, and once you figure out where everything has moved, you stop thinking about it. And the new themes are really nice, the dark theme is noticeably less orange than the previous one (you can still use the old one if you like that more, AFAIR). Going between WebStorm and Android Studio (before this update), Android Studio felt so old-fashioned... P.S. enable Compact Mode if present, AFAIK, Compact Mode should be the default
If anyone is hearing this out, the only reason that I'm holding back from using this new UI is that it does not have the support for having multi line tabs, and it's awful because of that. It makes no sense to keep scrolling your tabs to find them, or memorize the name of each and every file that you have or will work on, because sometimes you are not the one's who created those files and directories, especially when working with legacy codebases.
Android studio is really buggy lately, every update brings with it new bugs, Android team if you are reading, please work on it Being said that, New UI looks good
It's ironic how it's made to be more simple. However since I bad been using the old version since 2018. Using the new one feels more complex, because of the layout 😅. I like it though. Will take time to get used to of course.
The new ui is nice, it needs to get used to it, I have been using it for a while, but it is not optimised, the old ui was more stable and faster, I hope it will improve over time.
I like so much that u decide to drop all my font and color settings when applying new theme, thanks you so much! Edit: Likely i expect this and had a backup.. u should at least show confirmation dialog to "apply new settings" since i expected to see "whats new" guide when i clicked on it and not "undeniable applying the stuff" without confirmation
I think you can find a better solution to gradle operations, there could be up-to-date libraries for this, some dependencies are still not even shared in android resources, you should improve in this regard.
Little known fact: old ui can be uncluttered as much as you want, up to just the editor being visible. Then use keyboard shortcuts to access everything else when you need it
Hm, switched back most of my IntelliJ IDEs. The new UI is different but, in my opinion, not better. My main concern is the change in the toolbar. The new "toolbar" is now part of the titlebar. Way harder to handle and to configure.
Pretty sure all these curiously similarly worded positive replies are from Google employees, or generated. Seems like an unnecessary change; busywork to put on someone's performance review goals, like many of the AS changes in recent years. We'd rather you fixed difficult to resolve and long-lived bugs, than easy-to-implement but effectively useless re-skins.
why icons in main toolbar right are all white, whilte in settings they have colour accents? It is easier to identify the icon if it's in different color.
@@c5inco For eg. at 0:43 the "onCreate" and "setContent" font color is golden-ish. But in my system its in a blue color. I am using Android Studio Iguana on Windows 11.

Nah, it's definitely better. I've been using both IntelliJ for Desktop apps with Compose and Android Studio for Android apps and my eyes just rest on the new design. It's way cleaner and more intuitive.
@@ndriqa I tried to do some stuff and could not found how in new UI(don't remember what exactly). As for looks, I prefer classic Intellij style to this "New" VS Code looking one

Agreed. Its pleasing to use and inviting too.

There’s an option for showing editor tabs in multiple rows in Settings > Editor > General > Editor Tabs…
Seems not bad, android studio always looked way too cluttered
True
Yep. I coded my own ui just because of that. I used it on every JetBrains IDE
I've been using it for a while and I think they did a really good job with the new design.
Android Developers team really works hard👏👏👏👏👏👏
I love the new UI and have been using it for over a month now. I love the look of the new icons and have no need for atom icons
New UI looks cleaner now but it feels like more complex to use so I prefer the old one itself.
true, it feels like they're just trying to hide the complexity in a single button
The new UI looks beautiful! There's a bug with custom items icons in the new toolbar but I'm waiting for the next patch! 😊
Android studio is really buggy lately, every update brings with it new bugs, Android team if you are reading, please work on it
Being said that, New UI looks good
Have been using it for quite a while now and I can say that it feels soooo much better than the old UI. Thanks for the update!
I've been trying out the new UI for a while now, and I've absolutely been loving it!
I love new UI, flat but complex. Love it

Same here, since I am used to the old one, the new UI feels more complex even thought it's simpler 😆

Nice! Waiting for a Compact Mode of this new UI (already implemented in other JetBrains IDEs)
It’s available in Hedgehog+
@AndroidDevelopers - I'm confused. Android Studio is a Google product. But you mentioned Jetbrains, which is a separate company?
AndroidStudio is basically an Android coding add-on on top of Jetbrains IntelliJ IDE
Much more visually pleasing than the old UI. I'm enjoying it greatly this past months! Great jib by Jetbrains!
I think you can find a better solution to gradle operations, there could be up-to-date libraries for this, some dependencies are still not even shared in android resources, you should improve in this regard.
Happy with the new ui !
Eu gostei muito deste novo UI do Android Studio.
Já estou utilizando
Nice work. Can't wait to try it
Little known fact: old ui can be uncluttered as much as you want, up to just the editor being visible. Then use keyboard shortcuts to access everything else when you need it
I've been using it since Giraffe came out. It's pretty good!
Hm, switched back most of my IntelliJ IDEs. The new UI is different but, in my opinion, not better. My main concern is the change in the toolbar. The new "toolbar" is now part of the titlebar. Way harder to handle and to configure.
I wish the Build Variant could be added to the top-right toolbar
Been using the preview channel since I saw the new UI in one of your videos, absolutely love it!
"We call the new UI the New UI", spoken like true programmers
Would love a way to change all build variants at once
One change request: please don't put the sync gradle button beside "attach debugger", I always end up needing to think about which was what.
Everything looks oversized, like the UI was designed for touchscreens. Can you make a compact mode like Intellij has?
Compact Mode is available in Hedgehog+
I'm sorry, I've lost it at this point: "We call this new user interface the 'new ui'." :D
I am using it for a month or two it is not overwhelming features and tabs

Great look and good work, can you add "show icon name" on mouse hover over the icons, if the feature does not already exist, plz.
looks so much cleaner now, finally got rid of that old 90s look that always had, still need some work but this is such a good start
Ui design file was very hard to find in the studio
New ui has lot of bug. It is not stable. Now I switched again to old ui
It’s great but compact mode is missing
Compact Mode is available in Hedgehog+
why icons in main toolbar right are all white, whilte in settings they have colour accents? It is easier to identify the icon if it's in different color.
I've asked it the first time they started to using featureless, same-colour icons. I don't like when "designers" start to mess up "developer" tools.
Hey Android studio I have been trying to download Android studio for windows now for months and it always gets stuck downloading an SDK
how do you put the program on a 32bit older computer
i love the new UI
are we forced to use the new ui just to get new backend updates? I don't have time to learn new ui right now.
The New UI is opt in for at least the next four Studio releases. So you have lots of time to learn it. 😅
Why did the blue area in the middle top disappeared in Hedhehog?
There was significant user feedback to remove it as many found it too distracting.
The new UI is just really bad.
This is what happens when you let designers mess with a professional development tool.
Disagree. At first it was slow to get use to, but now I can't see myself going back to the old layout.
In the new giraffe the log cat is horrible, any recommended video to understand the logcat better
Thank you sir
Bring Image keyboard support for Jetpack compose
nice desgin
Why fix what works! That's why everyone loves vs code because it doesn't change
Google project idx android emulator release?
Why the color scheme is entirely different from what is shown in this video?
Could you elaborate? The schemes used in the video are the new default Light and Dark ones.

How about the performance? What a memory hog again.
Начал юзать месяц назад, довольно удобно
Nice
Android Tool feature and access
It’s looking like VS Code
Flutter with VSCode still seems to be the best choice for me. Sorry.
gib back old ui
its not good i dont like it
i hope they leave old ui too. the new one looks like a childish crap

Hi
This UI is super bad, tried it for a week then switched back
you mean is worse than the cluttered ugly looking UI that had back then???
Nah, it's definitely better. I've been using both IntelliJ for Desktop apps with Compose and Android Studio for Android apps and my eyes just rest on the new design. It's way cleaner and more intuitive.
Totally agree.
i don't care how pretty or ugly it is, I need it to be functional.
The new UI is silly.
