If you have any questions about YarnWithHeart or about me, please let me know. I will answer those throughout November.... Question for the Week for All Of Us: Do you have a favorite thickness of yarn you like to work with? Or a yarn that you don't work with?
Cathy, your knitting and crochet speed seems to be awesome, i am truly impressed! This new washcloth also is so adorable! And your crochet shawl with the EFA silk yarn - its looking so luxurious!
To answer your question - for me, the fingering weight yarn is what i enjoy working with the most. Next would be lace weight yarn.. simce i love to knit lace design shawls, projects made in these 2 yarn weights give the best appearance....
Hi Anvita. What lovely shawls yours would be -- in fingering & lace weight! This one that I am working on is the first shawl I have tried working with fingering weight yarn. I am really enjoying it very much.
I use all weights of yarn. I really enjoy DK, but it depends on the yarn and the project. All of your makes and WIPs are wonderful. Cannot think of any questions at the moment.
I use all weights of yarn too (except super bulky, not sure the right projects for that). Starting these projects has been a lot of fun, and thank you so much for your kind comment about them. Although, I have to admit, this week I need to complete a couple before I start any new wips. (hmmm, lets hope I can stick to that. lol)
I love that you decided to start a channel. You bring such a beautiful gentleness to the TH-cam yarn channels. Thank You!
I seem to gravitate to a # 3-4 weight. I use mostly a 3. ❤
Thank you so much for your kind comment. I am happy that you are here. I really like those weights of yarn too! :-)
I have made 3 working on my 4th of the same sweater Florence is such a good instructor for me 😊
Wonderful that we are both enjoying this pattern so much. I love that there are variations, so that each sweater can be a bit of a new adventure. If I make it again, maybe it will be a chance to learn a few more new things! Congratulations on your new sweaters, Jeanne! :-)
My favourite weight of yarn without a doubt is #1 - fingering! Thank you for your very kind words. Glad you found something you are happy with to use the Moongleam fingering yarn. Can’t wait to see the final result. 🥰
Working with the Moongleam, I can see why you enjoy #1 yarn so much. I hope, with all my heart, that the shawl will look like hosta leaves. That is what I'm imagining.
Hi Cathy! I do tend to gravitate to fingering weight or lace weight yarn. I just love the drape of thinner yarn. So excited for your milestone celebration. Congratulations 👏👏 I enjoy knitting cables, as well. Yes, I tend to procrastinate too and always re-think my work. I'm glad you're trying out the magic loop method.
Hi Dimitra! I am starting to really enjoy fingering weight yarn. When I knit, it tends to curl on me, but that will improve in time (as I am still learning). Rethinking things? yup, definitely on my list too. I just was on the struggle bus about the finishing touches of my shawl (might mention about it Friday, won't go into detail about it here lol). You encouraged me to try the magic loop -- thank you so much -- it works so well!
Love your new yarn and all of your makes have come out beautiful!
Thank you so much Jan. I would really like to finish a couple of the wips this week. I have to be firm with myself -- no more starting projects until then. (We'll see how long that lasts. lol)
Wow you have been busy this week. Your shawls are beautiful. Love the dishcloth. Congrats on the sales. Happy they all sold.
I am so relieved about the sales going well. And looking forward to making this week's dishcloth. The shawl is for your CAL, and I am busily working on it atm. Hope to get a pic to you in time for your slideshow. Fingers crossed. 🙂
Hi Cathy my favourite yarn is dk its what i use most of the time ,though i have knitted myself a sweater in arran . I really like the colours that you have used on your projects ,they are turning out really nice ,thankyou for sharing .
Hi Mary. I would like to use more dk weight yarn. The drape is beautiful and I think it would be great for sweaters too. The colours on these projects are definitely because of the MALs and I am so grateful -- now I am using colours that I hadn't before and combining them in new ways.
I like all weights of yarn but my favourite would probably be a DK. The yarns you bought on the road trip are gorgeous. That Berocco blue cotton is beautiful and you will look lovely in it. I am eager to see it worked up. Also, the Juniper Moon colours - soooo pretty.
Thank you so much Carol. I do really like the blue cotton so much! And Juniper Moon has been on my wish list for over a year. This coming month, I really would like to treat myself with a couple of things that I make for me. And if I can find patterns that I like, maybe these will be some of the yarn that I use.
I like mostly 4 or 5. I will also use 3 for shawls and 6 for amigaromi. I can’t go any smaller than a 3 though. I also use Tshirt yarn for baskets . Can’t wait to see your sweater all done. It’s so pretty. Hugs my friend 😊your shawl is so beautiful
Hi Shannon. I will watch on your videos for hints about the yarns that you use for amis. Oh, and I have never used Tshiirt yarn. Very curious about that. Thank you for the encouragement about my sweater and shawl. Hugs to you too, my friend. :-)
I love the color way you chose for that Tuesdays with Morrie shawl. So pretty! I don't think I currently have a favorite thickness. Just enjoying it all!
It took all month to find yarn in the book cover colours. And then, in that LYS, Jeff said "hey, is this the colour you are looking for" and I have been knitting up a storm ever since. Isn't it fun that there are so many different weights of yarn? And each have projects that they seem to work well in. (I haven't explored super super bulky yarn, #6 and up, but imagine there are patterns for those too.)
Hi Cathy! Loved everything today, you’re making huge progress on all of your makes.
I use all weights of wool except not lace or #6 so much. I think fingering and DK and worsted are my zone though. And sport lol!
Thank you Tami! I have to try and resist starting any more projects (until I have finished one or two). lol The toys that you make & the way you combine strands of wool is beautiful. Very nice. :-)
Hi Cathy. My favorite yarn weight is DK-3 weight. Your sweater is coming out very pretty and the shawl you're making is going to be very pretty too.
Hi Debbie. Thank you so much. I definitely hear you about the #3 weight yarn. Actually, although I am enjoying my sweater knitting immensely, and learning a lot, I think in will be quite warm in a #4 and almost wish that I had made one in a #3 weight instead (for the drape and for it to be a bit cooler).
@@YarnWithHeart So for your next knit sweater you can use a beautiful 3 weight yarn ☺
I am hoping to do that. (And also would like to try a bit of a v-neck or a boat neck, if that is not too complicated.)
@@YarnWithHeart I just completed my first knit v-neck sweater. I watched a few TH-cam tutorials on how to bind off the v-neck smoothly and how to work the ribbed trim. It came out pretty nice.
@@MrsDebbieLW That is wonderful that your sweater came out nice! I will be sure to check for tutorials when I come to those sections. Thank you.
When I first started getting serious about crochet, I lived chunky yarns. My tastes and talent have advanced so much that I prefer thinner weights. Thicker yarns still have their uses but I'm learning I really don't like working with blanket yarn. Your shawls are so pretty. Ooohh love the new yarns you picked up. I've never had juniper farms either. You'll have to let us know how you like it. The washcloth is cute.
Hi Sarah. I have not used the velvety blanket yarn as yet. But never say never. Next year, I would like to try an occasional amigurumis, and that might be the time to start with that type of yarn? So happy that you like the shawls. I am very curious about the juniper farms yarn. It will be a treat for the spring/summer, as it is quite thin and cottony.
Another lovely episode, Cathy ❤ My apologies, I can't participate in your MAL, I hope you get loads of entries. Magic Loop?! You are surpassing me in the knitting skills, as I have never done that. ❤
Hi Diane. It is totally understandable that you cannot participate in the MAL, as I hear that you sold out bunches of mittens. woot woot (Imagine you are very busy getting ready for your next market... No time for MALs for you, my friend. All mittens, all the time). I almost didn't manage that Magic Loop, and could very easily have been telling a sad tearful story. Just was lucky that I got the cord to untwist. (You can do totally do Magic Loop, with less stress than me, cause it's similar to dpn's with fewer jogs. And you are expert at dpn's.)
Nowadays I just like chunky or two strands of Aran held together or holding a chunky with a finer strand just to make some interesting combinations and faster for me 🪷 luv your channel
Good day! And thank you for the comment. What a lovely idea to hold the two strands together to make warm winter items. It sounds fun and I might try some of that when I start making blankets again. :-)
I’m getting more comfortable with magic loop knitting. And I’ve learned that life lines are very valuable. Cute snowman washcloth. I prefer worsted weight or light worsted weight most often. But on occasion I use lace weight.
Hi Mary. Magic Loop is my preparation for someday making socks (hopefully). And I definitely need a loooot of practice. When it comes to winter, that snowman is so nice, as it will be seasonal all the way from November thru to March. I like using worsted weight yarn too. And I really admire things made with lace weight -- the drape is so gorgeous!
❤
🥰
I've used threads to 6-wt. Haven't used 7-wt yarn yet. Everything depends on the projects that I'm interested in at the time. Currently using sock weight to 6 wt and combining 3-wt with 4-wt for blankets (warm yet not too heavy) ☺️. Have a great evening.
Hi Deb. It is so nice to use a variety of weights, as there are so many project possibilities. I really like the idea of combining yarns and might have to try that when I start making blankets again!
@@YarnWithHeart Hi. 👍🏻
Hi, When I started loom knitting, I preferred a bulky weight yarn. I loved making beanies. I mostly used number four acrylic weights for crochet and knitting. I have some sick yarn that I have not used yet. I'm supposed to knit socks for my husband but I am a bit intimidated by sock knitting heels and toes. My favorites are 4 and 5 weights. I'm currently making my first knit shawl. I'm not comfortable with cables but I want to learn how as well. 😊 I hope you feel better soon. Thanks for sharing the knit sweater. Magic Loop? The sweater is pretty. I like the color you chose. Are the sleeves hard? I'm afraid of messing up the shawl. I watch tutorial videos over and over. Lol I need to take a sip of my green tea.
Thank you so much for hoping I feel better soon. My sister enjoys loom knitting and made me a cozy warm hat that I like using in the winter. I also like knitting and crochet with #4 and #5 -- especially for winter. Diane (mypinkbathtub) and Alice (soxynanaalice) plan to host a sock MAL in the new year. Maybe we both can make our first knit socks at that time? Magic Loop is a way to use 32-40 inch circular knitting needles (instead of double points) when making something with a small circumference. I am practicing on my sweater arms to be ready for sock knitting. I thought the sleeves would be hard, but once I got them started, they are not difficult, and this (free) sweater pattern comes with great how-to-video. Congratulations on your first knit shawl. Very exciting! I was afraid of messing up too, and then realized, it'll be ok. And if mistakes are made, can either leave them in & no one will notice, or I can back up a few rows and try again. I really hope you enjoy knitting your shawl. :-)
Your snowman washcloth is so cute. I tend to use Aran/worsted yarn because it’s usually found in most stores here, even in grocery stores. (I don’t know the number.) Q&A question: Once you’ve practiced knitting sweaters, do you think you will knit Jeff one?
I enjoyed making the snowman washcloth (and hint, there will be another snowman coming for this week). How lucky for you that there is yarn in your grocery stores! That is so convenient!
My favourite is bulky yarn, but I really do enjoy working with any weights. Your projects are all lovely!
My question to you is.....I would like to learn how to crochet. When I look on TH-cam, I am overwhelmed by the amount of tutorials. Do you have a recommendation of 1 or 2 youtubers that are exceptional teachers for absolute beginners? Thanks!
@@AlisonBrown-jz8fl try Jada with stitches
Thank you! I will take a look.@@wildflower-spirit-creations
Thank you so much Alison. I agree with @wildflower-spirit-creations that Jada explains things really well. The people who I originally learned how to crochet from were mostly Mikey from The Crochet Crowd (he currently has a How To Crochet Beginner Workshop on You Tube) and MarlyBird. I took some time this evening to see what content they still have on You Tube about Learning Crochet, and it looks like they both do. Mikey crochets with a knife hold (so do I). And Marly uses a pencil hold. Also, Marly looks like she has a choice of two playlists. One is short videos, called Beginner Basics Crochet playlist. Or there is a long format playlist -- that is Bicrafty Bootcamp:Crochet For Knitters. I also notice that Salena Baca has a link on the American Crochet Association website called "Learn How to Crochet". There are so many new people teaching on You Tube now, and it would be difficult for me to recommend specific teachers to you, since I first learned crochet such a long time ago. That said, I have learned quite a lot from all four of these people. Perhaps one of them will have a teaching style that you like?
Thank you...I will look into those.@@YarnWithHeart
You are so welcome. If you would like to email & let me know how you are getting along with crochet, I will be happy to hear from you @AlisonBrown-jz8fl
I don't like thick yarn. lace, fingering are favs but dk is a staple!
I am so happy that I have started using finer yarns this year. It really has brought a lot of joy to my knitting and crochet.
PS - very cute thumbnail.
Thank you. :-)
