Byzantium definitely fits in this DLC. They’re historical rivals with Persia and the Ottomans, and controlled much of the Middle East for centuries. They also fit nicely with the updates to Georgia and Armenia and were long overdue for a more modern mission tree considering how popular they are to play.
Besides the Balkans, I still think Brandenburg to Prussia needs more flavor. Their mission tree only consists of conquest missions with like 8 missions based around the military/absolutism. Would be cool to see a modern mission tree for them.
One thing to note about Byzantium is that a lot of people think of it as "The Roman Empire", and see it as a mostly European thing. While that's true, its important to note that as far as Byzantium and Greek History is concerned, the main Byzantine playground is the eastern mediterranean, especially around the Levante and eastern Anatolia. At the very least, its far more noteworthy historically than say the Balkans. So, I do think it fits.

I just wish that Paradox would also include some great engineering achievements with their monuments. Because quite frankly, some deserve it. For example the brine pipeline Bad Reichenhall to Traunstein in Germany. The first ever pipeline where the destination had a higher elevation than the start (with some even higher spots along side it). It was finished in 1619, was extended between 1808 to 1810 to Rosenheim, extended in 1817 to Berchtesgaden and was active until 1958 (the stop in Traunstein stopped in 1912, 1958 it was Rosenheim). Btw, you can still visit some of the pipes today if you are in the region (guess what, pumping brine through a wooden pipe for a long time makes it surprisingly resistent to decay).
I’ll be honest the DLC looks great, but man do I feel like they still did Arabia kinda dirty. No new government type, only 9 new events and one new estate privilege. It’s definitely an improvement to what we got now, but I just feel like they coulda done a little more in terms of flavour. Especially considering the DLC is called King of kings and well, Arabia is still a kingdom to this day.
They will probably make a new dlc for Arabia and others. The update is called king of kings which is a reference to the Persian empire, and Arabia was never part of the Persian empire
Byz belongs in this dlc as it seems to focus on the premise between Rome and Persia established prior to the Muslim conquests, even in the trailer on the Eu4 launcher it shows Byz colors bleeding out over anatolia and Syria while persian green bleeds over the mashriq and armenia. Dlc feels like Egypt vs Greece vs Persia vs Arabia

About that "EU4 best UI" thing. I only started playing EU4 last year and the UI has been the main thing holding me back. It is daunting, chaotic and bad at explaining stuff when you don't already know what it is. Playing Portugal, I get an event, where I can get Papal Influence or Prestige. Ok well, I already know Prestige, fine but what is papal influence? Now if this was CK3 I would move my cursor over the Word and get another window explaining what that thing is and could probably keep going deeper if I wanna know more. EU4 says "lol fuck you use a wiki or some shit" EU4 UI is NOT the best in the Paradox family by a long shot and it's only nice to you if you are a veteran.
It really needs an upgrade to the new framework with nested tooltips and most importantly the ability for proper scaling to all resolutions. However, the notifications are actually really good and imo a lot better than in ck3 etc
Hard agree. There's so much shit that's not explained in EU4. CK2 and CK3 is like reading Middle English, sure, but EU4 is like Greek. Even the notes aren't that much better, I can tell what needs to be done and it's not taking up much of the screen, especially in CK3. The one thing that EU4 has over them is notifying about possible revolts. You have to switch map modes for that in CK.
DLC name - King of Kings I wonder why the nation in the region of the DLC whose title can be translated to the King of Kings is getting some attentions.
Constantinople is only seperated by a small strait from the middle east and this update it is about boosting nations near the ottomans so they don't get overwhelmed by the 1.35 version of them so it makes good sense to include Byzantium. Although they could have given more attention in expanding the flavour of more neglacted nations like Arabia
I liked the video a lot, I always like to see your input Hawk. Personally I'm not too excited for this DLC, nothing in it really attracts me the same way the last couple immersion packs did. Persia looks fun but I'm not sure if I'd buy a DLC for a single nation lol
I find it funny how Byzantium, which when the game was first released was just a filler nation that was just there to be conquered by the Ottomans, became not only a fan-favorite among the community, but also acknowledged and given flavour to by the developers themselves
I’m pretty bummed Oman wasn’t updated. It’s one of my favorite nations to play and if it not updated now I don’t hold any hope it’ll get updated anytime soon (or ever😢)
As a Byzantium player, I want to ask everyone do you think it’ll be easier or harder from this new dlc/update? Of course you get the heirs mana boost and the extra province, but that -75% fort assault modifier looks crushing RIP bomb-assault Gallipoli strat
much much harder, will probably be about trying to get a strongish alliance to be able to down Ottos now, the changes were specifically targeted to crush the current Byz meta.
Much harder early game but much more rewarding mid game and late game. Also looks like it'll be a tonne easier to form Rome as well, so it's actually viable do to a Byz -> Rome playthrough without sweating super hard.
If i had to give a reason other then fighting the ottomans, i would say that byz is included because they where the main rival of persia for a long time. It is called king of kings
Watch them release a big American natives update, just so the community says once again "it's not Europe, I'm not gonna play there" * sad cherokee noises *
CK3 was very good on launch only lacking in flavour and unfortunately it will be the case for EU5 as well, a solid base game but lacking in flavour. If EU5 releases my recommendation will probably be the same as CK3 if you're new to the series grab it! If you're an older player wait a bit for some major expansions and then grab it. I can only hope Paradox gives us another CK3.
By the way, what do you think about adding different types of artillery to eu4? For example artillery that is more fit to fight infantry and one to siege forts etc or some special units of artillery
This might sound like a dumb question but when is this update getting released? It’s only the second update I’ve had in my time playing the game so I’m very excited!
I feel like byz getting their update is really only since due to the ottomans and now Mamluks getting their enhancements your two main enemies at the start are getting a buff and since byz is popular they need something to work with that
been sitting on the Zoroastrian achievement for a long time waiting for a Persia update, looking forward to it. What i really want to see though is a culture update, Culture conversion is such a terrible mechanic, it takes way too long, if i can push Missionary Strength high enough to convert holy sites, i should be able to also push culture conversion, or hell just make it spread passively from your capital similar to how insitutions work, maybe let me deploy cultural centre's in specific provinces that spread that culture at a faster rate.
16:39 @TheRedHawk what about the indepent colonies (USA, texas, mexico, brasil, etc...) could they receive some flavour cause they re some of the least played nations (due to lack of flavor and generic misson tres s)
@@TheRedHawk thats why they need some flavour and new custom missions just because of that 😂 Cause if they get some i would play a lot more independent colonies because now we just play for "only in america" or "texan ideas" here (just like king of kings and lions of the north) u would have a reason to play as them because of the flavour and new ideas (even for the mp would help).
20:11 ya know whats funny? even if you dont have the dlc to upgrade the trade centers, that still shows up it basically just taunts me every 2 years or so by randomly appearing
Well, I think this means I need to play a game as the Mamluks where I fully destroy the Ottomans. I've gotten them out of Anatolia and Constantinople, but they still had a bit in the Balkans.
so... a question to everyone here. i've pre-ordered the King of Kings patch. it shows i bought it, yet the game will not update from 1.35 to 1.36. why?
Byzantium fits due to its historical presence in the region and additionally the nations in the dlc are nations soon to be encroached upon by the Ottoman giant. Byzantium being annexed by the Ottomans in 1453, the Mamluks collapsing at their hands in 1517 and the numerous clashes and territorial conflicts between the Ottomans and Safavid Persia trought large portions of their history. So Byzantium definitely makes sense for The King of Kings. King of Kings isnt a middle east dlc, but an Enemies of the Ottomans in the middle east and anatolia dlc as opposed to their european enemies such as Venice, Austria, and Russia
I have a question: I have been playing this game for over a year but only vanilla. Now I have the option to buy one DLC. Which would you recommend?( I am mostly playing in Europe)
ck3 was not that bad of a release. it was a husk but its not a bad game. unfortunately thats just how paradox operates, game gets a shit ton of dlc, new game is a husk and you have to wait years. I hope this backfires and no one plays the newer games and doesn't buy the dlc as a result, might make them change.
It really irks me that Byzantium keeps getting flavour while other nations that should be getting love in this patch/expansion keep getting neglected. Oman for one feels like the biggest omission, especially since the other "areas" of the Arabian peninsula all got love.
There needs to be a rework of trade goods. and how trade/pruducation work. Like you produce goods but do nothing with them. maybe something similar to what the victoria games do.
I've always thought that Australia and the Pacific Islands desperately need some content. Those areas are basically jokes or challenges to try to play a regular game in
I'm a Byz player. While, at first, it made me confused why Byz is getting updated, I won't say no. Granted, I like another comments perspective that King of Kings is basically the "bully the Ottomans" expansion.
I`m pretty sure you are the expert who knows exactly where he wants his buttons and why he needs all of them and the CK and Vicky UI are made for the average person who sees the EU IV UI and flees in a panic when they get clobbered by all those buttons :) Having both as an option would be the best solution imo. Start out with the clean UI, learn why you need the detailed one while you play.
yeah the choice of nations they decided to update was kinda weird especially when you consider the nations that got sprites. Cyrpus got new sprites but nothing else? why? thats not gonna make people play as them
i feel like some of the less than positive reception of other brand new paradox developed/published sequel games lately might be encouraging them to stick with improving the existing framework of euiv, rather than developing a lukewarm sequel. but who knows!
I agree 100% on needing AI-Armys, it's so tedious to manage large armies, that I usually rely on Vassal swarm kinda gameplay and just attach my Armys to those of a Vassal.
Deeply disagree with you about EU4 UI being the best it is so beginner unfriendly. Everyone I've introduced it to fell off because of it and so many core interactions are hidden menus. I think EU4 fans love it because it has been with the game for so long that everyone has grown used to it but new people can actually play CK3 and Vic3 without it overwhelming them.

DLC name - King of Kings
I wonder why the nation in the region of the DLC whose title can be translated to the King of Kings is getting some attentions.
Italy region is popular and wasn’t covered in recent updates
I find it funny how Byzantium, which when the game was first released was just a filler nation that was just there to be conquered by the Ottomans, became not only a fan-favorite among the community, but also acknowledged and given flavour to by the developers themselves
I’m pretty bummed Oman wasn’t updated. It’s one of my favorite nations to play and if it not updated now I don’t hold any hope it’ll get updated anytime soon (or ever😢)
that is the one nation i saw really hoping was updated lol i do think all ther arabian minors are getting new estates and privs but thats it for oman
Aw man (I'm sorry I had to)
an update for Byzantium doesn ot fit? they were the historical rival of Persia before the rise of islam so it makes 100% sense my dude. :)
They should add flavor text for all the monuments. Just look at the flavor text for ideas, policies, unit types.
@@MuppetLord1 If only the AI wasn't designed to sabotage you at every turn...
If i had to give a reason other then fighting the ottomans, i would say that byz is included because they where the main rival of persia for a long time. It is called king of kings
Watch them release a big American natives update, just so the community says once again "it's not Europe, I'm not gonna play there"
* sad cherokee noises *
Netherlands really got left behind after everything else from Europe where power leveled so hard
Could you do a compare/contrast/ranking on the idea groups? AlzaboHD did one years ago but it’s out of date
I believe Zwellik did one recently, and I know Habibi has.
This might sound like a dumb question but when is this update getting released? It’s only the second update I’ve had in my time playing the game so I’m very excited!
November 6th I think
Sooner than I thought!
This is so surreal, I thought I was a relatively new player cause I’ve only been playing since 1.24, I barely remember the old mission system.
Its been 5 years since i started playinv but i dont even have 500 hours so
crazy how they make starting as trebizond twice as hard with the new georgia setup, but then don't even give them new missions
I feel like byz getting their update is really only since due to the ottomans and now Mamluks getting their enhancements your two main enemies at the start are getting a buff and since byz is popular they need something to work with that
Byz == $Profits$. Thanks for the dev note review.
been sitting on the Zoroastrian achievement for a long time waiting for a Persia update, looking forward to it.

@TheRedHawk
what about the indepent colonies (USA, texas, mexico, brasil, etc...) could they receive some flavour cause they re some of the least played nations (due to lack of flavor and generic misson tres s)
I would love for them to get some flavor but honestly they aren’t popular to play at all
@@TheRedHawk thats why they need some flavour and new custom missions just because of that 😂
Cause if they get some i would play a lot more independent colonies because now we just play for "only in america" or "texan ideas" here (just like king of kings and lions of the north) u would have a reason to play as them because of the flavour and new ideas (even for the mp would help).
20:11 ya know whats funny?
even if you dont have the dlc to upgrade the trade centers, that still shows up
it basically just taunts me every 2 years or so by randomly appearing
Well, I think this means I need to play a game as the Mamluks where I fully destroy the Ottomans. I've gotten them out of Anatolia and Constantinople, but they still had a bit in the Balkans.
so... a question to everyone here. i've pre-ordered the King of Kings patch. it shows i bought it, yet the game will not update from 1.35 to 1.36. why?
Once Paradox adds a hotkey for razing I can die happy.
i guess ill finally be doing my najd jihad run this update.
Netherlands needs a Mission update
wow mission tree bloat is very real. 117 missions is crazy
King of Kings is Near-East expansion, and since Byz doesn't really fit anywhere else they added it there.
I have a question: I have been playing this game for over a year but only vanilla. Now I have the option to buy one DLC. Which would you recommend?( I am mostly playing in Europe)
Get the subscription
Definitely get the subscription.
What is the subscription?
@@magm.9921 you pay 5$ and you get every dlc for 1 month
@@magm.9921 you pay around 5$ per month to unlock every dlc.
ck3 was not that bad of a release. it was a husk but its not a bad game. unfortunately thats just how paradox operates, game gets a shit ton of dlc, new game is a husk and you have to wait years.
But what if I form Persia as Inti.
You have to convert to norse
jaunpur definetly needs an update, it is the only major indian nation with no flavour
There needs to be a rework of trade goods. and how trade/pruducation work. Like you produce goods but do nothing with them. maybe something similar to what the victoria games do.
I've always thought that Australia and the Pacific Islands desperately need some content. Those areas are basically jokes or challenges to try to play a regular game in
Ulm needs a mission tree before the game is finished .
I'm a Byz player. While, at first, it made me confused why Byz is getting updated, I won't say no.
Granted, I like another comments perspective that King of Kings is basically the "bully the Ottomans" expansion.
The ottomans deserve it
im left handed and i wear my watches on the right hand and idc if someone says its incorrect
I think the HRE smaller countries need another update, since they are not at the state of art.
I`m pretty sure you are the expert who knows exactly where he wants his buttons and why he needs all of them and the CK and Vicky UI are made for the average person who sees the EU IV UI and flees in a panic when they get clobbered by all those buttons :)
Having both as an option would be the best solution imo. Start out with the clean UI, learn why you need the detailed one while you play.
India and Burma region updates would be nice, the missions, events and other flavour here feel lacking
Some of the stuff there that has content is really good, but there's a lot there that doesn't really have much if any content.
I think it's a decent medium-sized update
yeah the choice of nations they decided to update was kinda weird especially when you consider the nations that got sprites. Cyrpus got new sprites but nothing else? why? thats not gonna make people play as them
Actually, the easiest nation to form Persia with was the Timmies, you just need to form something that's not Timmies first like Georgia or Tibet
Oh yes the kang of kangs
Finally my favourite regions are getting updated! Now show some love to India and the Hordes.
i feel like some of the less than positive reception of other brand new paradox developed/published sequel games lately might be encouraging them to stick with improving the existing framework of euiv, rather than developing a lukewarm sequel. but who knows!
I think the ck2 notifications are ok but ck3 has so many things going on i just lose track of everything
I also do like the ui in Hoi4
finally some normal achievments again. most of the newer ones were always so annoying and not fun at all
23:15 Yep, and I would argue that HoI4 has the worst UI for these types of notifications.
Bro why mushasha never gets some love
Deleting buildings by right click is the best feature in this dlc, the other things are ok I guess xD
One Faith time lets go
The Indian Subcontinent region needs to be updated and given some flavour ❤❤
Please do a Arbadil Persia guide!
Need to add Indonesia as a former nation
Why is the Byzantium getting update in the King of Kings update? Who knows... maybe because the Emperor is!
I agree 100% on needing AI-Armys, it's so tedious to manage large armies, that I usually rely on Vassal swarm kinda gameplay and just attach my Armys to those of a Vassal.
You dont need to say, "giving you my opinion" like 20 times
Deeply disagree with you about EU4 UI being the best it is so beginner unfriendly. Everyone I've introduced it to fell off because of it and so many core interactions are hidden menus. I think EU4 fans love it because it has been with the game for so long that everyone has grown used to it but new people can actually play CK3 and Vic3 without it overwhelming them.
A King of Kings is essentially an Emperor right? So I can understand why the Emperor of the Romans is in this update.
So where you from Hawk?😄 We still don’t have an answer
Bro, they haven't even added Tajik culture. What's the point of updating Iran if they can't even get the basics right
