I tried this recipe for the first time yesterday, and God it's the most delicious cake I have ever eaten. Usually when I bake chocolate cakes, they don't come out as soft as this one. But this recipe changed my life literally, I absolutely love this and can't thank you enough for sharing this with us!
This video is all about your smile, and that way you explain every step, this is the best video I have watched in my entire life, THANK YOU. great recipe.
You’re amazing! Ganache-buttercream is my dream come true. Everything you said about frosting was straight out of my head and now you’ve taught me how to create the perfect frosting! ❤️
Thank you so much, for the recipe. I've tried this twice now, for friends and family during Christmas and it's turned out fantastic. I did not use 8 inch pans though, I distributed them into two 9 inch pans. (so, this was a 2 tier cake) Added a bit of baking powder as well in the batter, with the soda that is already mentioned. The cake was unbelievably rich in the chocolately flavour, dense and moist. It also came out huge, as a 3 tier cake would. It reminded me of the Chocolate fudge cake, I usually love picking up from Big Chill Cafeteria! It was so good. The first time, I used Olive oil as Ashlee mentioned. The second time, I used Rice Bran oil (ran out of olive oil), both the times - the cake turned out unbelievably tasty. I used "Dukes" dark cooking chocolate for the cake and icing. It's imo the best chocolate brand for baking. I'm going to bake this for the 3rd time, for my colleagues at office, as a Christmas treat along with plum cake. I just love, how this recipe calls for no coffee, the chocolate flavour is incredible. I think one can play around with the icing. The second time, I kept the batter the same and tweaked the icing a bit, by adding some cream cheese in the icing. It complimented the cake fantastically again. Honestly, I've tried about a dozen chocolate cake recipes from youtube. Red velvet cakes come out fine, but chocolate cakes are always tricky! Some look great, but taste useless. Couldn't find the x factor in them. I personally love this cake, because of the rich chocolate flavour and the moisture..i think the yogurt also elevates this to the next level. Thanks Ashlee! Excellent recipe. This is the end of my chocolate cake recipe experimentation. I'm gonna settle for this recipe as the final and one stop, chocolate cake recipe as the one I'd like to bake going forward for everyone. Sharing the picture of how it turned out - I put it up as my whattsap status that day :) imgur.com/a/srVEx
Being pretty honest, I actually went by my gut instinct in terms of putting cocoa in the mixture. I agree, the instructions in the video & the recipe are not clear as to - how many tablespoons of regular cocoa and how many of dark cocoa. I honestly just experimented with the cocoa bit. I added around 5-6 table spoons of regular cocoa and 4 tablespoons of dark cocoa. You could increase or decrease the amount of dark cocoa depending on your taste. With the Cocoa bit - I don't think there is much risk involved. Incase you end up adding more cocoa, the flavour of the cake just gets richer (cause the sugar and other ingredients balance it well).
OMG I’ve tried so many recipes; and was not satisfied which non of them; this is THE recipe; you’re the best ; thanks so so much ; told all my friends to check you out.
Great recipe. I would add a teaspoon of coffee along with the cocoa powder into the hot water. Bitterness is very important in making chocolate more “chocolatey”. Also, I would add a teaspoon or 2 of pure vanilla extract. This will elevate the flavour of the whole cake.
I personally hate coffee, the smell alone makes me queasy so I don't - but as I mention in the video it's totally a great option to add as a ton of people like it. And yes vanilla is a flavor enhancer so go for it, I have been making this cake for so many years I don't remember why when I started making it I opted not to use vanilla.... now you have me wanting to give it a try again!
Best Cake Ever! Made this yesterday, keeping all chocolate as dark as possible. I even buttered my cake pans and dusted with dark cocoa. It was sooooo rich and chocolatey! Loved the mix of ganache and buttercream, it gave the perfect balance of sweet and bitter from the chocolate. I did add 1/2 tsp of almond extract to the frosting and that just added another element and almost put it over the top. Thanks so much for the recipe!!
I decided to make this cake for my wife’s birthday cause chocolate is her happy place. This was my very first cake attempt ever. I mean ever. Never made a box mix cake either. You are so welcome!! @Ayesha Mirza, High altitude is when the place you live is much higher than sea level, it causes your ingredients to react differently
I completely agree that American buttercream is too sweet! I hate how so many frosting recipes just overwhelm your cake. I usually use an ermine frosting (flour frosting), which starts with a type of roux and then gets beaten into butter. Easy to find on google if you haven't heard of it, super simple to make, I usually make with very little sugar and it's just... thick velvety not too sweetness 😍
I've made and used ermine frosting before - I play with frostings a lot - I don't stick with just one frosting for a cake - like even this one - I use about 15 different frostings or more with this chocolate cake depending on what I'm going for - this is just a pretty classic way to go.
Omg thank you, I was searching for a good frosting, cuz I don't like the idea of meringues(too eggy/time consuming) or buttercreams(too buttery/sweet). Yet I want a frosting that tastes delicious and hopefully pipes as well! I will try out this ermine frosting and let you know if it's yay or nay 😁
I also hate overly sweet buttercream, I used to make ermine frosting but it took rather long. Recently I discovered a simple, fluffy not too sweet frosting that takes minutes to make - just melt butter and chocolate chips, dump it in the fridge and when it’s hard whip it up in the mixer. It even stands up to the humidity and heat here! Ive had so many complements about the balance of richness and sweetness of the cake and frosting.

This is the best chocolate cake I've ever made. I tried many recipes and this one is better than all the others on TH-cam. Very chocolatey and moist. This cake doesn't need simple syrup because it's moist enough.
I always add vanilla extract to my cake recipes....i also add coffee or espresso powder...brings out the chocolate flavor in chocolate cake...u don't even taste it. But i would try this recipe........i would have to tweek it a bit...i definately. Would not add olive oil it changes the flavor totally.

Hello Ashlee - based on the reviews, i have decided use your recipe for my daughter's 18h birthday. I need to use this recipe for two 10 inch baking pans - How do i adjust oven temperature or the time for baking please?
Ashlee can you let me know if I can replace the olive oil for butter? And if so what quantity should I use? If not possible, what tasteless oil should I use? Thank you soso much
I'm sorry but there is no way that olive oil in a chocolate cake tastes good. Olive oil has a distinctive flavor which is why it's so often used as the base for savory sauces and cooking vegetables. I have tried olive oil with brownies in a pinch when I thought "maybe one will sub for the other" and girl, that was a mistake.
I agree, Ashlee... I never use vegetable oil (soybean oil) or canola for anything... it's gross and super unhealthy for hearts. I use extra virgin cold pressed coconut oil in everything that calls for vegetable oil. It's amazing.
Bounce off... YES, coconut oil is great in everything that calls for vegetable oil... and soooo much healthier (as long as it's the extra virgin type with the medium chain acids intact).
I made this cake two time this weak. And I can say IT WAS AMAZING. The difference I did was ( mix a shot of coffee with the two cup of water ) and (first time it took 35-40 min and it was juicy the second time it took about 50 min and it was a PERFECT ) And yes the butter cream take A LONG TIME ( 2 hours to reach the thickness i want ) And last thing is ( let the cake rest in the fridge for 3-4 hour and put the first face of buttercream and put it in fridge for 1h. Then put the second ) If it the first time you bake a cake I RECOMMEND THIS RECIPE 💯% 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼 THANK YOU SO MUCH 🤍💜🤍💜🤍💜🤍💜🤍💜🤍💜🤍💜🤍💜🤍💜

Hi, thank you fo this recipe. It looks delish!!! I’m planning to make this but using a rectangular cake pan measuring 9”x13”. I was wondering how long should I bake it for and what’s the temperature? Thank you!
I'm making about cupcakes for my daughter's wedding 3 flavors. This chocolate cake looks yummy! If I wanted to make this into cupcakes, how many do you think one batch would make? Can I freeze them for a couple of days without the icing?
my goal it to teach more about baking and why recipes work, vs just a straight recipe - lucky for you there are plenty of channels that don't care about educating and simply share the recipe that you can choose to watch

First off, thank you for putting high altitude measurements!!!!!!!! And 2 after reading countless of recipes claiming to be the best chocolate cake ( they where all the same and they all add buttermilk which really takes away from the chocolate flavor if you put high amounts) I knew this one was going to be a good one! I think the melted chocolate will really make a difference! Thank you!

My mom bakes ashlee Marie's ganache cake recipe it was really yummy thanks for sharing this video!
You are so welcome! I am glad it turned out so well!
Mrs Cakes,
Thaaaank you for your recipe! and your personality and energi
I appreciate it, thank you so much!
I appreciate everything you said. Because it’s was super informative and useful. Even explaining why you don’t do something a certain way was helpful . A lot of people leave out the ‘why’. And as someone who’s starting to learn how to bake I appreciate you don’t because it helps me grow. 🤗 Can’t wait to try your recipe!
Thank you so much!! I appreciate it and am so glad it was helpful to you!!

I love her...best baking video I've seen. 🙂
Bruce loved the cake!
SO glad! Had a blast watching you all work your magic!
@@Ashleemariecakes hi ashlee, may i know the kind of flour you used for this recipe?
This is the best chocolate cake I've ever made. I tried many recipes and this one is better than all the others on TH-cam. Very chocolatey and moist. This cake doesn't need simple syrup because it's moist enough.
Thank you so much! I am so glad you enjoyed the recipe!!
Cake baking is a science and science is boring subject but the way you have explained every minute detail in an attractive manner catching your vierws attention all the time. Thanks for sharing! 👍

so glad you enjoyed it! obviously I ADORE it considering I make it like once a week
I never make chocolate cake only because I’m scared of the amount of butter, chocolate, sugar and oil I’m supposed to use... I’ll just buy one lol.
This looks like the most delicious chocolate cake and I'm 💯 making it for my family tomorrow
hope it was a hit!

Where did you buy ur cake mixer
Naina Seegobin I'm pretty sure it's a bosch universal mixer
www.amazon.com/Bosch-Universal-Plus-Kitchen-Machine/dp/B0016KU16G/ref=as_li_ss_tl?s=home-garden&ie=UTF8&qid=1456531228&sr=1-1&keywords=bosch+mixer&linkCode=sl1&tag=imtotu-20&linkId=4008cdb1146e972affdd0ed5c1c2dab7
I second this question!!!!
Am third but I found this in boash
Another interested party here, re: mixer. You said it scrapes the sides, too. Great! And I involuntarily gasped (and laughed) when you cut the finished cake slice. It looks amazing!
It's a bosch universal mixer - been around since the 50's! I grew up with one, my mom's is 40 years old and still going strong! Their website is here bit.ly/Ilovemybosch or you can find it on amazon too amzn.to/210Eyra I have a full review here ashleemarie.com/bosch-universal-mixer-review-love-bosch-series/

Hello Ashlee - based on the reviews, i have decided use your recipe for my daughter's 18h birthday. I need to use this recipe for two 10 inch baking pans - How do i adjust oven temperature or the time for baking please?
I just got diabetes
Looks good 👍
That looks so good! I'll need to try it, and I need to subscribe to your channel ASAP.
so glad you enjoyed it! let me know what you think!
This cake looks wonderful i am going to try it for my sisters birthday and i love your hair
what a goddess.
I have tried olive oil with brownies in a pinch when I thought "maybe one will sub for the other" and girl, that was a mistake.
to each his own. i think vegetable or canola oil in cakes taste rancid! you can totally use whatever oil you like
Use canola oil instead
yes me too tried out with oil in cakes didn't taste good butter is way off better
The difference I did was ( mix a shot of coffee with the two cup of water ) and (first time it took 35-40 min and it was juicy the second time it took about 50 min and it was a PERFECT )
And yes the butter cream take A LONG TIME ( 2 hours to reach the thickness i want )
And last thing is ( let the cake rest in the fridge for 3-4 hour and put the first face of buttercream and put it in fridge for 1h. Then put the second )
If it the first time you bake a cake
I RECOMMEND THIS RECIPE 💯% 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
THANK YOU SO MUCH 🤍💜🤍💜🤍💜🤍💜🤍💜🤍💜🤍💜🤍💜🤍💜
It sounds like it worked perfectly for you! I am so glad you enjoyed it:))
where do I get the recipe so that I can write it down? This is frustrating that you don't list the ingredients!!!
please tell me where to get the choc cake recipe that you demonstrated
The Happiness Injection Project they're listed in the description box 😊
the full recipe is in the description box or on my blog post ashleemarie.com/perfect-chocolate-cake-ganache-buttercream-recipe-rich-dense-delicious-video/
Dear mam lovd ur mixer which brand?? Plz let me knw
The Happiness Injection Project Banglad
the best bit? The cute kiddos!! Thanks for the delish tutorial.
Thank you so much! I will pass the compliment along to my kids:)
Sorry, i gave up halfway through, too much filming on you talking, too little on baking, you can speak while baking.
To bad you missed a great recipe. The only thing missing in this video is me and a bottle of red wine.
Made this It came out delicious!!
I added a little coffee and made whipped choc. ganache frosting and dripped ganache as well
I am so glad it turned out for you and that you were able to personalize the recipe:)
Why are you calling it a "double broiler" when it's a "boiler?"
6
*Double boiler, I am not sure why but we have always called it a broiler in my family haha:)
Hi, thank you fo this recipe. It looks delish!!! I’m planning to make this but using a rectangular cake pan measuring 9”x13”. I was wondering how long should I bake it for and what’s the temperature? Thank you!
Talkative.
Necessary when showing how to do recipes with many steps. I appreciate how she gives the details that will allow us to be successful
What is wrong with people? You wanted her to stay mute or what? Go fly🙄
Shah Prince a bit much
you talk toooooooo much woman
salm 666 c
@Mella pne your girl joy of baking is so boring. And all her videos take so long.
But I agree, this girl talks too much and the camera focuses more on her face than the food.
I'm making about cupcakes for my daughter's wedding 3 flavors. This chocolate cake looks yummy! If I wanted to make this into cupcakes, how many do you think one batch would make? Can I freeze them for a couple of days without the icing?
Thank you so much!! I am not sure how many it would make but yes you can freeze them without the icing
so noisy
Lily Toni: I have yet to find a quiet hand mixer or stand mixer.
I thought it was quite low in noise myself thats why I was Interested ut a little if this and that never got the recipe
Thank you so much, I don't know what I did but mine came out tasting like a brownie so delicious 😀
it's a very dense rich cake, so similar to a brownie for sure
Less of cooking n more talking..too boring to watch
my goal it to teach more about baking and why recipes work, vs just a straight recipe - lucky for you there are plenty of channels that don't care about educating and simply share the recipe that you can choose to watch
Chocolate Cake is my MOST FAVORITE CAKE EVER!!!! Only served it to ME with CHOCOLATE ICE CREAM!!!! I'm truly a CHOCOLATE GIRL THROUGH & THROUGH😍😍😍😍😍🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉♥♥♥♥♥♥♥💜
Haha yes!! chocolate is delicious! I am so glad you like the tutorial!:)
Thank you!
