He titled himself Alamgir, The Conqueror of the World. He sure conquered, but not with his greatness but with his brutality.
We are often taught the reforms and developments he brought, but the truth is much darker than what we know.

I completely agree with her, when we are taught history in school, we are taught about Mughal Empire and how good rulers they were. We are never taught about how cruel they were, and how they so brutally enforced Islam on people.
We are not taught about the Maratha Empire and the great rulers like Prithviraj Chauhan and how brave they were. Books are just filled with praises and stories of Mughal Empire, though their legacy is not something that should be appreciated, cause they just looted India.

I totally agree with you Anushka. As a history student, we were taught the religious tolerance policy adopted by Akbar and how great emperors they were since they expanded their empire till Thanjavur in south but in reality during the Mughal period, our subcontinent's population declined drastically, so many women were taken to distant lands as sex slaves and many temples were destroyed.
In reality, they weren't good rulers they were cruel dictators
And we aren't told about people like sambhaji, prithviraj. In medieval history, we are either taught Delhi sultanate or Mughal period.

Pls read the Ambedkar's writings about the Buddhism. Until the Islamic invasions, Buddhism was confined to North India. By the time of Ghori invasions, may Buddhist temples were there in Bihar to Myanmar with lots of gold. When Ghori attacked Kanauj, it was already a Buddhist capital. He looted all the Buddhist temples in Bihar killed the monks, destroyed the Buddhist temples. Even the Nalanda University was destroyed during Ghori invasions by his general.
