I miss those independent video shops in the Eighties/early mid Nineties. In my part of Scotland, we had two VHS rental shops in my local town. One is now a Turkish Barber shop. The other is a small business. There was another one in a nearby city, situated in the backstreets. It had a bigger selection. The owners also had this huge tv screen playing a classic film or recent release. Again, completely gone. (Can't even remember where it was situated). I envy looking at this set up of yours. Makes me feel young again and wanting to rent a film for a Saturday evening. Nice video, and nice to see keep somebody literally keeping the past alive in their part if the world.

As a collector of physical media, I applaud you! This is every collector's dream to have a basement like this. Are all of those actual VHS tapes or are some just "empty display cases"? Either way, super cool. I saw a red door with ET on it in the kid's room. I assume that connects to the workout room. But when you spun around, you revealed a second door with windows. Does that lead somewhere or is it just a fake door? Also, I wish you would have shown off your theater a bit more. We never saw the opposite wall of the laser discs and we didn't get to see your theater itself very much. I'm only asking these questions because I love this video and this space!! I saw your culinary humor section. Do you have Gore-met Zombie Chef from Hell? I remember watching that as a 14 yo kid. It was a terrible movie and despite it being about cannibalism and allegedly being near the ocean, it was filmed in Charlotte, NC. Definitely pick that one up if you can.
Hey Mondo, I'm building my very own replica Blockbuster Video Store in my home garage. On Augustb5th 8 ex video store shelves arrive to NY home with a massive VHS, poster collection and 5 huge metal store DVD & food shelves. I have one big shelf already. I need to get the canary yellow paint and paint the garage soon. I'll then source carpet but overall it will take a good 6 - 12 months to get it where I want, including building a shop front that will hide the roller door from the inside and from.ecterior will be hidden by the garage roller door, but once rolled up, a beautiful Blockbuster Video Store exterior will be fully visible. I'm drawing up those designs soon and will finalise plans once shelving arrives and I see in person what I have. When I watched your video months ago, that was the trigger for me to say 'Screw it, I'm doing this" but as Blockbuster was so nostalgic to myself here in Australia, I decided to do it as a replica Blockbuster Video Store, as it gives me a good base for design, style, structure and to really hit people who come visit it with that 80's -2000's nostalgia. Sadly in Australia we dint have basements in our homes like many American houses do, which really sucks, so my garage is my only option but it's a good size. So thanks again for the inspiration and mine won't have an adult section 😂
