This descendant of the Dean clan of Dean Castle and a Sassenach Hibbins born over the waters in Oz just loves this. I cane hear the skurl of the kilt, see the drums and the Pipes bings back fantastic memories of my great Uncle Richard (Dick) Hibbins as he played them beautifully, the Scots were represented in Lindenow in Victoria Australia every Christmas and New Years in my grandparents shed as my Uncle played his pipes. Love your bonnie Scotland, and I had much pleasure in visiting it in 2001

@Tricia Butler Hello, Trish, I feel ya sister, as my Father was a full Scot and while I am only half (on some days, I feel much more), I am extremely grateful that from a very young age my Father taught me the importance of my Scottish heritage. I am an extremely strong spirited person who has many times walked though heaven and the deepest depths of hell. It is my Scottish & Lithuanian blood that has always kept me guided in the highest and keeps me abreast in life.
I have a deep connection to the ocean and all forms of life, what calms me most and I have known this from a very young age, is the crashing sound of water against rocks. Captivating and mezmerizing taking me away to a place I've never touched ground in this life. Yet and again, from my earliest experiences of retaining memory. The sounds of bagpipes echo my own heartbeat-calling/awakening my soul and if I allowed it, I know could consume me...not that this has ever been a bad thing.LOL! ;) My ancestors were known as the bog people, out of SW Scotland and my clan dates back to the picts. We were also the first choice chosen clan to fight alongside/with the Campbells. We were established battle warriors, we owned some of the largest of sea vessels, made our own reputable and reffered to whiskey, had the finest of jewels and silk.
We bared the sea as known travelers, who protected the homeland, as well as directly invaded Ireland. We were large in stature-well sought after, fought many battles to include the bloodiest of the Jacobite rising, Culloden where many clans had turned against their own to the death. We are known as one of the oldest clans, with having the name Muir alive and well still to this day throughout all of Scotland.
I am very proud, as well as will always remain equally grateful for my DNA. I am that person who will stand for you if you are of good character and integity of life/greater of good of people, but cross me wrong, or those close to my heart ....RUN ! I have no fear, only that of my maker who is closest at heart. I have countless testimony in my guided journey here in this honored and truy blessed life.
I dove deep a few years ago to learn my family ancestry, upon this learned I have family lineage to Robert The Bruce, Mary-Queen Of Scots-Royal House of Stuart (*my clan helped to protect her when she fled Scotland initially) and by marriage=are a direct descendant to Elizabeth Muir who was married to King Robert II, the Earl Of Loudon-John Earl, as well as have found traced ties to John Muir. In my research what I learned helped me tremendously better understand me, I admit in this frame it also became an obsession for the years that have followed with periodic new discoveries. Now tamed. LOL Without conceit, I know I am not an everyday people and this dwells deep with my soul. But the reality is, none of us are.
Note: I lost my Father at a young age to Glioblastoma Multiforme (brain cancer) and at a time where my family heritage did not mean even a near fraction as much as it does today. My Father was the instiller of teaching me/my siblings the importance of where we came from. Coming from a large family of five other siblings, I was my Fathers shadow. I was raised in a military home with both American and Scottish traditions. In my early start into my teens, my family suffered much turmoil/tragedy due to multiple losses of life and hardships growing up when for me, my mind was open the most. In other words, you could say I come from a broken family, yet this never "broke" us. During a major shifting/soul searching point in my own life in later years, that would require me to stand up against my own strength. This is was when I sought my own need to know my ancestry, and as the truest of blessings it has assisted me in ways I could never convey here. I will close with adding, I've passed on the same mentioned traditions with my own Daughter, who like me is also blessed to be half Scottish and is the apple of my eye.
⚔️🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿"Albannach" stirs my soul, unlike most artificial/synthetic Scottish bands and are one of my favorites.⚔️🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 th-cam.com/video/Hopbu5Lz6GE/w-d-xo.html
    Blessings. ~Durum Patientia Frango~Slàinte mhòr #ClanMuirSociety

One may have many ancestries today. It is what calls to your soul the makes the bumps stand upon your skin, and your heart soar. I'm a Scot, in name, heritage and ancestry, but did not know it in my soul until I heard the sound of the bagpipes. I was born in America, not Scotland. In America, to wear a kilt when I was young was a "sissy" thing to do, until I donned one, and became a man. Then I saw the Isle of Skye and Dunvegan, my homeland and my Clan Chief's castle...I was home. Alba Gu Bràth!

I love Scotland and mesmerizes the strange sound of the celtic bagpipes and drums bits, Clan Andruma was playing in Edinbrough festival in 2005, bought their cd, signed and had pictures with them which is on my fb profile picture. Albannach Band members were mostly from Clan Andruma , I m still following them..I felt so sad with the news about Jamesie Johnston stabbing, and happy to see him actively dancing as he bit the drums again...but I love all the members too. I love Scotland,

This is GREAT! I'm so thrilled that the pipes still warm my blood, even after generations in America! I remember seeing the pipers when I was small for the first time, looking so cool in their tartans and kilts, hearing the pipes, Grandma telling me that music was in my blood. Later we traced the family back to the Fergusons and Duncans. I can't remember where they were from, but it was still neat. Oh, and my dad has some ancestors named Glenn!

By the mid 1st millennium AD, with the expansion of the Roman Empire and the Great Migrations (Migration Period) of Germanic peoples, Celtic culture and Insular Celtic had become restricted to Ireland, the western and northern parts of Great Britain (Wales, Scotland, and Cornwall), the Isle of Man, and Brittany. Between the 5th and 8th centuries, the Celtic-speaking communities in these Atlantic regions emerged as a reasonably cohesive cultural entity. They had a common linguistic, religious, and artistic heritage that distinguished them from the culture of the surrounding polities.[7] By the 6th century, however, the Continental Celtic languages were no longer in wide use.
Insular Celtic culture diversified into that of the Gaels (Irish, Scottish and Manx) and the Brythonic Celts (Welsh, Cornish, and Bretons) of the medieval and modern periods. A modern "Celtic identity" was constructed as part of the Romanticist Celtic Revival in Great Britain, Ireland, and other European territories, such as Portugal and Spanish Galicia.[8] Today, Irish, Scottish Gaelic, Welsh, and Breton are still spoken in parts of their historical territories, and Cornish and Manx are undergoing a revival.

That is such a loaded question. It depends on how much time you have. There are things to explore in every corner of the country. Every time you come to a fork in the road, and commit to a direction of travel, you will always have that gnawing feeling tell you that you are missing something by not taking the other road. That being said Isle of Skye, and the road from Glencoe to Sterling are outstanding. As well as Inverness to Oban. Up and around Loch Lomond. And that's just t he west side.
