Respectfully, the longbow will forever be superior to the crossbow. Longbows had much greater range and could be fired much faster that crossbows. Longbows were also more accurate, especially in England and Scotland which both had implemented laws requiring anyone above the age of 14 to practice with their longbow everyday. This meant that there was a huge reserve of troops who were well trained in the use of longbows and was one of the key advantages that England had over France in the hundred years war, since the French were much more reliant on untrained crossbowmen.

Not a grudge between sweden and Norway? During the winter season Sweden and Norway are arch rivals mostly in skiing but when it comes to wars it have mostly been Sweden and Denmark that have fought.

Well, actually... That comparison of longbows and crossbows was pretty wrong. Like, REALLY wrong. The longbow could still shoot more accuratelly and longer than crossbows, while mantaining it's armor piercing (for the right arrows, of course) and the longbowman also carried melee weapons, that they learned to use also since childhood because they were a kind of elite troop, like knights. The big thing about crossbows are twofold: one, you need almost no training. Two, it can pierce armor at a reasonable distance, although only for hte weaker side of armors. So although longbowman WERE aboslutelly better in a 1v1 comparison, having troops of crossbowman was more cost effective, faster to get and easier to mantain.
That's right. And with the next step - meaning firearms - this becomes even more obvious. With the lock still somewhat complicated, it was about as easy to mass produce as the crossbow and had more range. Which led to the decline of bow and arrow as well as the concept of armored knights.
In war, it's simply not about quality - but only about numbers. Yeah. A knight might kill a dozen footmen with spears or might best any crossbowman in hand to hand combat - but for one knight you can field dozens of guys with pointy sticks or crossbows. Also it's way way quicker to replace those lightly trained troops in comparison to one elite trained knight.
