  • Decadence Baptisias are beautiful perennials, hardy in zones 4-9. They are available in a wide range of colors, and the dried pods even provide winter interest. Each will reach 3 feet in height, and they are loved by bees and butterflies, but not by deer!

    That was hilariously funny, Aaron. I was thinking the same thing about the roots. I do the same thing so it must be a subconscious thing to do after one has done it for so long.

    I have said this before, Laura, the way you explain, and you are explaining more again (or I have learnt more from you and am noticing more, lol ;) ) is perfect, thank you. Aaron - you are a funny bunny with your teasing, lol. Lovely to see you both so happy, doing all that you love doing, together.

    I'm so motivated by all these awesome videos!! I don't have my own garden, but I do have a small area in front of my apartment where I've been planting beautiful things that are giving myself and my neighbors lots of enjoyment. I wish I could share a picture! Anyway, thank you Laura and Aaron for all the wonderful ideas and for letting us into your lives!

    Hi Laura!! Just wanted to say when I opened TH-cam and saw “and tour” in your title I was soooo excited!! I just bought a lady gardener bc you have influenced my colour palette. QUESTION Is nepeta invasive at all? I read mixed messages about invasiveness with it. I am zone 3/4 in Canada btw.
    PS mirroring the purple nepeta would be gorgeous there.

    thanks for the encouraging words about hibiscus. I thought mine was a gonner but if yours are just now getting leaves, mine should be maybe a week or two yet to go. the magic words in my garden are "well, it's not dead yet"

    • @ProvenWinnersYouTube
      @ProvenWinnersYouTube  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Perennial hibiscus is one of the very last plants to show a sign of life in spring, so hang in there!

    Baptista is one of my favorites. I have two. I mistook for the Dark Chocolate. This plant has a lot to offer with its beautiful booms , leaf structure and the seed pods add fall interest. As to teasing the root, nothing irritates me more than a root bound plant. The worst are the ones that wrap around in the circle. Can you reference an article that states it is not as harmful as one would believe. It would not be a problem if nurseries priced them to sell rather than allow them to become root bound.

    • @ProvenWinnersYouTube
      @ProvenWinnersYouTube  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      No Karen, we do not have an article on our website that details that. Just years of experiences with plants. And a root bound plant is not necessarily a bad thing, it is much better than a pot of dirt and very few roots!

    • @karenross3457
      @karenross3457 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ProvenWinnersTH-cam I agree about the later. I have bad experience with both. Perennials and annuals are not a problem my biggest issue is with shrubs and trees that have roots encircling the root ball. Thank you for your reply.

    Hi Laura! In this video you mentioned that your rose plant was treated for chlorosis . I have several limelight hydrangeas and a holly displaying the same condition. I have treated them once with Irontone. Should it be applied more than once or how often should it be used? Thanks for all the helpful info!

    • @ProvenWinnersYouTube
      @ProvenWinnersYouTube  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Alicia, best if you follow the instructions on the container for that product, or the advice your garden center can offer you--take a picture to them to show what you are dealing with and see what they advise.

    I put the Decadence Dark Chocolate Baptisia on my list to think about planting, will check on more colors too. Redoing the front of the house and think these will look nice. Doing more perennials now in my life. Never seen the small allium before, are they a plant or bulb? Thank You for the tour, really enjoy seeing it. You have had a cold snap and we have had rain for the last 4 days, just enough rain each day to pull weeds between rain showers. Stay Safe and see you tomorrow. O I forgot when you say cut the stock back do you mean the stem the flower is on?

    THANK YOU for introducing me to Baptisia ! Purchased 4 PW at Home Depot that were marked Pink Lemonade however they are actually Cherries Jubilee. Love them anyway and now have an excuse to keep looking for the Pink Lemonade :-) P.S. I've heard that the flower stalks should be removed before the seed pods set or they will spread around the garden.

    • @ProvenWinnersYouTube
      @ProvenWinnersYouTube  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Perhaps with other baptisia, but not these....they are non invasive, so plan to enjoy the seed pods all winter long.

    I still have pansies & violas I can't make myself pull in N. Georgia. Found some native Baptisia Alba growing down my dirt road with dark foliage & pure white racemes of flowers. I'll be cutting some blooms & looking for a seedling to transplant. Anyone got advice on moving Baptisia? I've heard it's hard to transplant.

    • @michelez715
      @michelez715 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The grower I bought my baptisia from told me not to try and divide it for a few years. I left it for abt 5 yrs, and it made a good clump, and then I just dug up 3 or 4 side pieces, in the autumn, and planted them in other beds, and they all took very well. I have a very green fingered friend, and I gave her some baptisia seeds, and they took abt 2 yrs to germinate, but are doing well, now. Sorry I can't advise you on transplanting, other than to just have a go! Get as many seedlings as you can, for a better chance of success. I think baptisia are quite tricky, which is why you don't often see them in nurseries, but they do well once they are established, and are quite trouble free.

    I love wisteria but it is so invasive and grows so massive. How do you control and manage your wisteria?

    • @ProvenWinnersYouTube
      @ProvenWinnersYouTube  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The key to wisteria is confining it, trimming as needed and not letting it get too heavy for the structure it is on.

    • @petalacres3686
      @petalacres3686 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hers is a Double Flowered Japanese Wisteria. She has mentioned before that the Japanese wisterias are not invasive as the others.

    How do you deal with all the seeds that drop from your trees and millions of seedling trees that shoot up?
