    Would've put relief cuts in the 2x2's then filled them with some sort of glue or Mudd to get around the curves but this is an amazing idea to save head space and still put the ceiling that you want in... GREAT JOB GUS BUS!!

    Its great to see someone actually doing the work and not just talking about the work they did. When we are trying to build ourselves it helps to see what someone else has done step by step & I appreciate the work it took to put this video together to help people! Agape

    Hi, I'am building a bus and I'm at the beam and 2x2's. I,'ve found doing the predrill first and cramp the 2c2 up and drill all at one time. Faster if feel. Alvin Ian installing underbids be fir laying down plywood.
    I've also added less clearance lights and add a back porch. Lots of wiring. So I've use a termal strip instead wire nuts. So ill the tail lights and extra are on the strip for Easter wiring.
    Also I drilled 1 1/2 holes in side beams fir wiring the outlets. Filled the holes with a chase nipple to protect wiring of 12 ga.

    I used Leton M35 cobalt drill bits from Amazon for drilling to rivet my home built box on the bus and was pretty impressed with their durability. They sell them in a multi pack of the same diameter. Those might drill faster than the titanium bits the hardware stores sell.

    Woohoo! Great job y’all! Nice move on marking the metal by tapping the screws!
    Question... why didn’t y’all just use self-tapping screws? Did they give you trouble?
    Love how you’re framing around the doors. We’re going to do that too.
    Keep rocking it!

      Thank you! We should have used something like that. We have gotten a lot of comments letting us knowthat drywall screws are probably not the best ones for this application but we live and we learn lol I would probably advice using self drilling screws because they'll save you a lot of time. Thank you guys so much for all your support ❤️🥰

    Hey y’all what is your finished ceiling going to be? Im about to start framing mine and will be using old fence and pallet materials. Im very concerned with making sure I have a large enough thearmal break so I think im gonna do a similar framing job just with larger wood.

    • @GustheStruggleBus
      @GustheStruggleBus  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That sounds like a good plan! We are more concerned with being comfortable with headroom. We that is why we did it this way and will finish with thin tongue and groove boards!

    Did you use drywall screws to attach the 2x2's to the metal ribs?

    • @GustheStruggleBus
      @GustheStruggleBus  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      We did indeed use drywall screws to fasten them to the ribs but have gotten a lot of comments since the video came out advising us that this might not have been the best option.

  • @marcuskellum9912
    @marcuskellum9912 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Why not use the wood to metal fasteners? I believe Teks is the brand name. Just predrill the holes, then drive in the fasteners to the ribs through the wood. No clamps, no marking, no drilling holes into the steel. It seems a lot of trouble and effort to use a drywall screw--which are not great fasteners anyway. The self-tapping fasteners are I believe either anodized or galvanized which would have way better corrosion resistance than drywall screws. Drywall screws will start rusting almost immediately if they get any moisture whatsoever on them.
    p.s. Who controls the audio levels on your videos? The parts on your video when you guys are talking are at like a volume level 2. Then the montage music or whatever that is IS AT VOLUME LEVEL 8.5!!!! Who controls the music on your videos? Is it you guys, or does TH-cam put it on for you? Anyways, I have to ride the volume constantly so I can hear what you guys are saying and not wake up the baby when the music BLARES WHEN YOU GO INTO MONTAGE MODE. Super annoying.

    • @GustheStruggleBus
      @GustheStruggleBus  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      In hindsight we should have used different screws. The screws that we got where rated to go into thin metal but we have had a lot of people reach out to us letting us know about their corrosion properties. As far as the sound quality I (Paco) handle that. I went back and watched and noticed what you meant. I try to keep it pretty uniform with the Audio so that this doesn't happen but it looks like I missed a couple mostly in the middle of the video. This happens because we film with different cameras and some have a mic and some don't and sometimes the ones that do we remove the mic for charging the camera. I take full ownership of this. Thank you so much for letting us know like this we can be extra vigilant in future videos. 🤓😁

    I am genuinely appalled that you guys seem to have decided to choose what has to be the most labor and time intensive method to frame out your build, short of course, of planting, growing and milling your own trees for the wood. Making a permanent template of the center roof curve and simply cut that angle out, keeping your scrap trimmings for shims, etc. Furthermore, clamping, drilling, unclamping, drilling the metal rib, re-claming and attaching makes no sense and begs mistakes.
    Pre-drill your wood, clamp it to the rib and use a longer metal drill bit to punch the pilot hole and then screw it it. Better yet, consider that a high quality metal punching bit could chew through the wood like butter, continue into the metal and you end up with a 2 step nearly fool-proof quick(er)coperation for sure!!! With all due respect and admiration, this episode was much like watching a couple of neurosurgeons carving a Thanksgiving turkey; masks, drapes and all.
    I truly look forward to more videos where the technicians in you lock the engineers you harbor in a kennel somewhere until you need to, say, formulate your own special paint or weave special cloth for the upholstery. Fingers crossed!

      @GustheStruggleBus  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I'm genuinely appalled you took the time to write this long of a comment in such an off-putting manner. Maybe by the time we finish with our build that we are making so difficult, we will be done reading this comment... "I'm going to make this way harder than it needs to be" ~Michael Scott
