I don't find places like this creepy, but intriguing and somewhat depressing. But that's a good thing because anything that evokes emotion of any kind, makes us feel alive! Great video as always, thanks!
Was at Zzyzxx overnight in April of 1989. Was there with a group of Amateur Astronomers from the Riverside Astronomical Society. The Cal State University system had taken control of it and we got permission to check the skies around there for future star parties we might have. Zzyzxx is about as far away from the light dome of LA before you start hitting the one from Las Vegas. Though it was relatively dark, we found not quite as dark as closer locations to Riverside at higher elevation in the mountains. There were also annoying hot winds that came out of nowhere late at night. That year was a wet one, so there were standing pools of water by the side of the road leading to the structures. Was the only time I have ever witnessed a mountain sheep in the wild. When it saw our vehicle approaching it scampered up a shear rock wall faster than I could have run the same distance on flat ground as a teenager!
Fun place to explore. Reminds me of a horror movie set though. I got a good laugh over the banjo sign. I am so glad you decided to keep making videos. You are my favorite traveler to follow. Love your personality.
I love the video. love zzyzk and soda springs. I would have taken a shower there. If there is no signs stating you can't then I would have assumed you can. as always be safe and enjoy life.
Hi Brian we loved your video. Here's a little tip when you're in a dry climate and it's very hot. Get a spray bottle and mist your shirt and your face and the evaporation will cool you tremendously
Thanks for a better viewpoint of this destination. I've seen it several other times via other TH-camrs but they always concentrated on the creep factor and not that it is actually a education site with modern facilities. Great video! Happy Trails!
I heard it is "technically" pronounced "Zye-Zicks", but I take a ton of pronunciations with a grain of salt. Regardless, it is a truly fascinating place. After discovering the Salton Sea, I thought I would never stumble across another truly fascinating ruin of a place in the United States...that is, until I heard about Zzyzx. Lol. Oh yeah, and as I'm typing this, I just heard you say it is confirmed to be, in fact, "Zye-Zicks". Haha. Great video, man! Keep up the great work!
I always wanted to go down that road - on the way to Vegas and no one wanted to stop!). Very interesting and that was an Oasis you were at because mid 90's is cool for there! LOL! Thank God no trip digits yet! Thank you for sharing this! Now I know, how to pronounce the road name too!
Thanks for another great video..That looks like it would be an awesome place to hang around at for a few day. Thanks again for taking the time to share this...
Excellent job showing us the history plaques. I have studied the Mojave and those signs are so right on the money. There are many other places in the Mojave national park. One day I hope to go camp around some of them. Thanks, Brian, for taking us there with you. :-)
Wow. Interesting place. Thanks for the tour. A little bit eerie. Will have to read up on that place as I love mineral springs and visit often for the healing waters and peaceful vibes. Here in N Ca there are many hot springs. Their fortunes rose and fell over the course of time and many were revived by alternative healing communities during the 60's. And there's Calistoga in the popular Napa Valley wine growing region with numerous hot springs, hotel spas and renown restaurants.
It seems so sad that something so detailed has gone to wrack and ruin! It was nice to find out about this area very interesting, thank you for sharing! God bless you and keep you safe on your adventures!
Just now saw your video. I used to listen to Curtis Springer on shortwave radio back in the 1960s. He broadcast every night from XEMO radio, Tiajuana Mexico. He sounded just like WC Fields. Very entertaining. In case you haven't found out the pronunciation, Dr. Springer pronounced it with the y like we would say "I". Think xylophone.
🇬🇧looks like a great place but I can't believe there is all that stuff, the library, the displays etc yet nobody around. Weird. But I enjoyed that. Thanks Bri
What an in creditable start to your 2017 adventures. Enjoyed the brief documentary footage of Soda Springs as had not heard of the place. I think I have watched your past adventures 2015 and 2016 almost three times as your adventures are so awesome. The excitement is building for 2017 and do look forward to them. After not being on the road for awhile I am sure you need a good nights sleep. Take care and be safe. Thanks Brian.
Oh my gosh, that place reminded me of the video game "Silent Hill". It was interesting to see what it was. Too bad it is now a ghost town. Hope you took advantage of the shower! Stay safe out there! Peace!
Thanks for the tour of Soda Springs. I can't even begin to tell you how many times I have driven by Zzyzx Road on our way to Las Vegas from So. Cal. and never knew that was there.
Driven by Zzyxx road atleast a thousand times driving between LA and Vegas. Used to always be a source of amusement for my kids when they were younger. Never imagined the abandoned spa just a few miles off the 15 freeway. Thanks I'll just it out next time.
KInd of a creepy place but I would have definitely taken advantage of a shower and if anyone actually showed up to say anything, I would apologize, told them I looked for a real person but no one was around, and then offered to pay. That way, no hard feelings and I would have cleaned up the shower stall I used. too much heat is a terrible thing. I hope you took it easy and began to feel better. Awesome video once again. Thank you for taking us with you.
I've been through there and past that exit/road hundreds (maybe thousands) of times dragging a trailer with tractor back in my trucking days, I always spelled it out like you did to start with, never knew that either, LOL! Great video, my friend 😊✌
You were on Main St. in Hesperia (I ate at the In-N-Out many times) - I used to live there for almost 2 years! I love driving on the road with you! I love to take road trips whenever I can! Have a blessed trip!
Grew up in Hesperia now in Oklahoma. Also lived in Colorado and Texas. We have driven past Zzyzx prob 100 to 200 times in the last 45 years. Many things we missed on the I40 route. I have been trying to catch more of the sights. Zzyzx wanted to be the very Last name in the phone book. Who knew that phone books would die. Great video we will definitely try to make a point to stop. So many of our trips to see family so we would just hurry up to get there we just never took the time to see all the sights.
Borax mine was close by....Hauled out and processed by "mule teams". Borax soap still sold in stores.....I just saw some today at Menards...be sure to catch the sunsets...
wow thanks for that information van man there's so many beautiful things that this country has to offer I am reaching almost retirement age and I've been thinking about getting a van to do the same thing great video keep them coming.
Thanks for the tour. Years ago when you hauled hazmat, you had to stop every 100 miles or 2 hours to check your tires. I'd try to time my tire checks at interesting places to write in my logbook, like Zzyzx Road. Once we had a pallet of fire extinguishers on board & had to stop every 100 miles from Pennsylvania to LA. Ridiculous.
very important what you do before leaving for a trip . check oil and fluids , air pressure. it prevents so many future problems. I'm a trucker and believe me that's one key to a problem free trip
Some of the best places to boondock are old hot springs/resorts. They were very popular back in the 30's, 40's and 50's when the health benefits of natural hot springs were prescribed by doctors for a huge range of issues. I have camped in Washington, Oregon, California,Montana, Idaho and New Mexico at various hot springs. Some were just the springs, others were resorts or entire towns. Only a couple of drawbacks- sometimes you might share them with clothing optional folks, and you need to be able to handle the sulfur smell of the water.
Hey Brian, FYI, there's In N Out in Vegas, one just North of St George, Provo/Orem and a few in SLC. You might want to check out Valley of Fire (lot's of BLM tween there and Lake Mead) . Plus Kolob Cyn & Sand Hollow. 8' of snow up @ 10.000'. High 70's here in the Wasatch (regular heat wave).
I agree, some of the abandoned soaking stalls and whatnot are a bit creepy. Kinda weird how everything that was in operation seemed so open. Guess I'd sneak in a shower as well. Hope you can get some cool breeze when the sun goes down! Mid 90s is rough. I wonder if people can park where those buildings were, under a tree?
Great vid. What surprised me was those empty rooms/buildings didn't seem to show any forms of squatting..graffiti, trash, etc...without alot of authority presence around I would imagine some knucklehead would try setting up residency in a place like that...showers, toilets, library, etc. Glad to see, other than looking abandoned, it didn't look abused or thrashed..
inn out I eat there sometimes in Texas.thinking about you Brian wishing I was you.dieing to set my self free so I can fly a way from here.pray ing God will make a way.
Mornin Brian, Now that was a bit creepy but the history was intriguing. 🤔 Brian here I am... enjoying your video when I hear ya say sammich, 💡 idea... I said to myself....self ya like the cookin' segments ask... how do you balance your meals for this lifestyle? Will you be doing more cooking segments? ✌🍵🍝
Fantastic, you're on the road again! That resort must have really been special back in the day. I like how all the palms were planted in rows. It seems like most buildings that are abandoned look kind of creepy.
I know what it feels like to walk around see recent human activity yet no one is there. I once worked in a huge old mill building where a large area was vacant. I walked through seeing diplomas, family photos, paper still in typewriters with half way finished letters, etc. It was dead quiet in there and spooky.
In and out burger 🍔 is the bomb 😂 super duper yummy 😋
I don't know how many times I've passed that Zzyzxx Rd. exit on I-15, but I've never gotten off there. Thanks for showing us around!
I don't find places like this creepy, but intriguing and somewhat depressing. But that's a good thing because anything that evokes emotion of any kind, makes us feel alive! Great video as always, thanks!
+David MacDougall I agree, I love abandoned locations. I like to use my imagination of what it was like before abandonment.
Thanks for the overview of the area...just camped here on my way to Nevada 🌞
Great job with the drone so we could see the springs in the middle of the lake!

Enjoyed this stop. The kind of place that leaves one wishing they could step back in time to when it was at it's best. THANKS, Brian!
This is so interesting. Enjoy yourself and be safe.
I love the video. love zzyzk and soda springs. I would have taken a shower there. If there is no signs stating you can't then I would have assumed you can. as always be safe and enjoy life.
Quote of the day, "Oh, dang-it In-N-Out Burger; so good." :)
that burger and fries looked delish and that springs place looks creepy with no one around but thats what makes it fun, good start to your trip.
In-n-out is one of the best burgers! and cheap to boot!Cheers
Hi Brian we loved your video. Here's a little tip when you're in a dry climate and it's very hot. Get a spray bottle and mist your shirt and your face and the evaporation will cool you tremendously
I've wondered about Zzyzx for years! Thank You!
Very Nice I Really Enjoyed this video your overhead Shots are Wonderful ...😋😍

Very good video, thanks
Zzyzx, we wondered the same thing when we passed it. Safe journeys and don't overheat too much.
Keep in the shade and stay hydrated. get to feeling good.
Sad to see old deserted places, but very interesting. Thanks, Brian.
Keep making the great videos and thanks for sharing your adventures and life with the rest of us.
Thumbs up. ENJOY... THE SIMPLE LIFE
So interesting. Thank you for the tour. You are right the old baths are creepy looking lol.
your best work yet. thanks for taking us along...✌
Not a bad first day AVM! Thrilled to see you back on the move.
Brian, keep the videos coming. Cheers, Mate.

What a neat place its on my list....
Very well done, I hope you continue this format of travelogue.

Interesting place. Thanks for taking us there. Like the drone footage !
Sad to see it broken down and it was around for so long. Dont get dehydrated, lots of water. Happy trails
Zi-zicks, yeah creepy nightmarish Blair Witch vibe to that old building. I wouldn't want to wander around there at night.
Thanks! The drone view was great! Thanks!
On the road again ! !
Always ! Safe travels ! !
Zzyzx... good name for a video game! Legend of Zzyzx!
It was a gorgeous resort in its day. Abandoned buildings are always spooky. Love the mountains.
Oh my gosh, that place reminded me of the video game "Silent Hill". It was interesting to see what it was. Too bad it is now a ghost town. Hope you took advantage of the shower! Stay safe out there! Peace!
Mr. In and Mr. Out thank you for the free Ad. Boy I miss that stuff! Really great travel vid!
That camping space looks beautiful.

Walking back in time. Very cool place! I love exploring things like that.
I have passed that off ramp many times and never knew about Soda Springs! Interesting video Brian!

I'm jealous, but I'm glad you're on the road again (I wish it was me). Beautiful drone shots....
Excellent video Brian. I will have to add this location to our travels. Hope we will see you on the road sometime. Peace.
Cool video Brian..that place was kinda creepy..lol.
I was thinking it was creepy too. Then you said that. Now that is creepy! LOL
great video I like this place

Awesome In-N-Out. I always stop there on my way from San Diego to Apple Valley where there is a racing Kart Track called Grange Motor Circuit.
Thanks for the tour. Years ago when you hauled hazmat, you had to stop every 100 miles or 2 hours to check your tires. I'd try to time my tire checks at interesting places to write in my logbook, like Zzyzx Road. LOL... I genuinely laughed at the irony of a pallet of fire extinguishers being labeled hazmat.
Excellent.
We traveled past that last year about this time. I wondered what was down that road. I remember it because of the funny name.
very cool!
I'm heading back to So. Cal next month ZZyzx looks like an interesting stop. Thanks
very important what you do before leaving for a trip . check oil and fluids , air pressure. it prevents so many future problems. I'm a trucker and believe me that's one key to a problem free trip
I'm from the Hesperia and Victorville area. Driven by Zzyzx road hundreds of time but I never exited to see what was there.

dang Brian, some serious exploring.
That place was creepy. Like some post apocalyptic wasteland. Thanks for sharing it with us.
Crazy that a whole lake can just "dry up"!
I agree, some of the abandoned soaking stalls and whatnot are a bit creepy. Kinda weird how everything that was in operation seemed so open. Guess I'd sneak in a shower as well. what a cool spot :)
good video. I'd like to explore that place
Wow surprised the library and hall room was still intact. It almost seems like someone was there. Especially because there was a laptop and glasses.
Cool place for Halloween on a full moon night. No Banjos though. Last player must have played pretty bad, ya think?Enjoy your week-end Brian.
It's pronounced "Zzyzx" but you can call it Smith Road. Just pullin your chain. Lol Have a fantastic day my friend!
That BK is sooo much better than in&out
Fascinating place but at the same time a good place for a "Walking Dead" episode!
wow i can hear the wind...that looks like the hotel california...made sure you are able to leave...
Good one.
Yes! I miss in-n-out!
