Every time I watch this video, it brings me to tears. I find myself returning to it again and again, drawn by something deeper. I recently had the opportunity to go back home after being abroad for 6 years. I left as a teenager, and in that time, life moved quickly-college, COVID, responsibilities. I couldn’t make it back home sooner, and in the process, I lost touch with who I once was.
This song was released around the same time I finally went back for a holiday. I spent six weeks reconnecting with my roots, and now that I’m back abroad, this song has taken on a whole new meaning. It’s not just a song-it’s a powerful reminder of where I come from and what I had forgotten: my family, my homeland, my identity. The video, in particular, resonates so strongly with me that I can’t help but cry at the end, every single time.
I’m also working on quitting cigarettes, as going home and the story portrayal of this video reminded me of my roots and the clarity I’ve found in this journey. Smoking doesn’t align with the person I want to become. Felt like I should mention.
A huge thank you to Purna Rai and the entire team behind this masterpiece. This song transcends music-it’s a bridge between the past and present, helping people like me find their way back. Your work is invaluable, and I can’t praise it enough.
