      I'm glad you found the video helpful, @lowkeyIbes. You should still be consulting with your surgeon during the healing process to make sure there are no issues. You also need to consider that progressive hair thinning isn't treated by a hair transplant at all, so treatment is still needed. Wow! This is very interesting ! On day 5 post op I took a shower and forgot to not put my head under the shower head; the shower head in my house has pretty strong water pressure and It seemed to have knocked off the majority of my scabs... I thought maybe I might have damaged some grafts ... afterwards I picked off one of the scabs that were hanging off and I saw what appeared to be dried up blood in that spot. I didn’t see any leaking blood so I’m guessing that I didn’t lose any graft but I’m hoping that I didn’t hurt the chances of graft survival . Is it possible to hurt the chances of graft survival in this way ? Also .. if grafts are secure are 2-3 days why do so many doctors recommend such cautious measures for so many more days afterwards ? Many even gave different ideas about graft security being something that doesn’t occur until 10 days or even 2 weeks post op. Seems to not be a general consensus between doctors on that one . Is there a reason for that ?

    Sir thank you for your great info ! I have recently 10 days ago gotten a hair transplant approx 2700 grafts to my front and crown area. I did not touch the recipient area for the first 5 days except for cleaning after the 3rd day post op. After the fifth day I began to ivoluntarily pick at the scabs. I tried to stop but somehow I kept finding myself picking at it. There was no bleeding or pain when I did it. The scabs had already become fully dried up and crusty. Now I am worried I have permanently damaged my hair. Do you think I have damaged it?

    • @AmiyaPrasadMD
      @AmiyaPrasadMD  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Akshay Narasimaiah,
      You likely didn't damage your grafts as the follicle should be firmly in place underneath the skin, but I advise that you not pick at the scabs. Your transplant surgeon can examine your scalp for any possible issues. I hope this clarifies things for you.

    Dear Doctor, first of all I congratulate you for your preparation and dedication. After 17 days from hair transplant I started to massage the recipient area with vigorous massaging and shampooing, but 3-4 times I shampooed, it happened that some scabs came off and some blood came out. I didn't use my nails but my fingertips. In your opinion, did this cause the grafts to be disloged or compromise the transplant? Thank you very very much for your patience in helping people with great fears

    • @AmiyaPrasadMD
      @AmiyaPrasadMD  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi @profsavino,
      Grafts should be firmly in the place in the scalp by now, and should not be lost after shampooing. However, I suggest you follow up with your transplant surgeon who can examine your scalp for issues, and knows details of your transplant surgery. You should be following your transplant surgeon's advice about when to shampoo since they performed your hair transplant, and know where you are in the healing process. I hope this clarifies things for you.

    • @AmiyaPrasadMD
      @AmiyaPrasadMD  4 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Hi Benjamin Kew,
      It is highly unlikely you damaged any grafted hair follicles this long after your transplant surgery as they are very firmly in place at this time. Any lost follicles by this time would have been lost eventually as they didn't take during surgery. If you have any concerns, you should refer to your transplant surgeon who knows details of your scalp and your surgery that I'm not aware of. I hope this helps you.

    Thanks Dr.Prasad I feel a bit more comfortable washing my hair a bit more aggressively. My doctor did clearly state in his Post Op Instructions that After Day 6 of the surgery there is almost no chance for the grafts cells to fall out since they are already healed in place. It seems that you also have the same consensus as him - but you also need to understand the patients worry since most of us do not have medical school training and do not know all the intricacies of how the scalp and follicles function. And also can you give me some of your hair!? Ha! You are lucky. My dad also has great hair and he is almost 60 and I have been thinning and losing hair...it's tough - but I just completed a transplant to add density, going on 1mg finasteride and using laser therapy. Praying and hoping for best and judging by your videos you also have a very warm personality and seem very humble. Take care doctor.

      Some doctors are more conservative with healing. I hope this clarifies things for you.

    • @AmiyaPrasadMD
      @AmiyaPrasadMD  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Lastofus,
      Grafts are secure enough after 48-72 hours after surgery that a tool is needed to dislodge them. Grafts that fall out if you scrub 72 hours after surgery didn't take to the scalp, and would not have grown terminal hair. You can wait 7 days, or whichever time your surgeon recommends as they know the details of your scalp condition, and the way your transplant surgery was performed. I hope this clarifies things for you.

    • @AmiyaPrasadMD
      @AmiyaPrasadMD  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Sofiane Belbrik,
      Treatment is still needed after a hair transplant because transplants alone don't treat progressive hair thinning. I don't see the benefit of using rosemary oil or other essential oils after a hair transplant, so I don't recommend it. You can have more than one hair transplant, but it doesn't mean you will get more scalp coverage. What should be the minimum gap after a FUE hair transplant for PRK refractive surgery?
    I underwent my 2nd FUE hair transplant on the 18th April. I got the first one done 3 years back. I also plan to get my PRK refractive surgery done after this.
    I will be wearing a surgical cap during eye surgery. The eye surgeon will put his hands on my scalp while performing the surgery plus I will not be able to take a head bath for 5 days post-PRK. Considering all this, how many days should be the minimum gap between the 2 surgeries so that there is no risk to my transplanted grafts?

    Hi Doctor, thanks for your videos.
    I have some confusions:
    1- Can we go outside on a sunny day after 48-72 hours of hair transplant? Does it cause sunburn or damage to the newly planted grafts?
    2-There is a myth that finestride may cause unfertility. Is it true? For how many months we have to take it after a transplant?
    3- If we stop using minoxdil, will it affect our natural existing hair?

    • @AmiyaPrasadMD
      @AmiyaPrasadMD  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi muhammad akbar,
      Yes, you can go outside 48-72 hours after a transplant, but you should watch your sun exposure so it doesn't cause sunburn.
      While finasteride is unlikely to cause infertility, as a precaution I do have my male patients stop using it temporarily if they are trying to conceive a child
      Yes. Since minoxidil delays natural hair shedding of native hair, if you stop using it, you will likely have a sudden hair shed of native and transplanted hair. I hope this clarifies things for you.

    H Doctor, i haven't understood the meaning of "a graft above the skin attached by a clot will likely not survive". Do you mean in the first 48 hours or also After? What Is the difference between hair in Scrubs and hair in a clot? Thank you for your kindness.

    • @AmiyaPrasadMD
      @AmiyaPrasadMD  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi @giovannifioccola,
      A graft above the skin attached by a clot means the graft didn't take to the scalp, and is only held by the clot. Without taking to the scalp, the graft will not survive.
      It is possible for high blood pressure from nervousness and anxiety to cause a graft to be pushed out of the scalp during surgery, which is commonly called "popping". This is why it is important for the patient to be sedated and relaxed during transplant surgery to prevent popping. I hope this clarifies things for you.

      Hi,
      Hair transplant surgeons have differing amounts of hair grafts placed in a single procedure. As I explained in your other comment, nutrition from surrounding tissue is important in graft healing, so I make sure that graft density does not exceed what the skin tissue can heal effectively, or you risk losing starving grafts and losing them. However, it after 48-72 hours it takes for hair grafts to be firmly in place, with more healing time the surrounding tissue becomes softer, and the hair grafts become even more firmly rooted in the scalp. I hope this clarifies things for you.

      Hi Brain Hax,
      Scabs are just dead and dry skin, not the follicle. A small bulb at the end of shed hair can be dead skin or keratin, and not the graft, so hair still grows after shedding. Any grafts that may be loose after this initial healing period would not have survived to grow hair. I hope this clarifies things for you.

      Hi Faisal Khan,
      Scrubbing your scalp this long after a hair transplant will not dislodge grafts. Even if grafted hair sheds, as long as the grafted follicle is in place, hair will regrow.
      As for the bending of your hair shafts, only your transplant surgeon can answer this is as they know the details of how your transplant was performed. I hope this helps you.

      Hi Zain Lala,
      While treatment is still needed after a hair transplant for progressive hair thinning, for men I usually prescribe finasteride to slow hair thinning, and our TrichoStem Hair Regeneration treatment to thicken thinning hair, and stimulate hair growth from dormant hair follicles. Unlike PRP alone, our treatment only requires 1-2 treatment sessions, with benefits lasting 3-5 years. Our TrichoStem Hair Regeneration patients don't need to use minoxidil after our treatment. Mesotherapy is not practiced in the US. You can refer to these videos on why treatment is still needed after a hair transplant, why our patients don't need to use minoxidil after our treatment, and how our treatment is different from PRP alone:

      Hi jougetsu,
      It's highly unlikely that you lost a graft 3 weeks after surgery since grafts are firmly in place by this time, and any grafts lost by this time didn't take to the scalp with surgery, and would have not grown hair anyway. If you have concerns about your transplant surgery, you should follow up with your surgeon as they can examine your scalp, and know details about your surgery. I hope this helps you.

      Hi @azula5607,
      It is highly unlikely that rubbing your scalp damaged your follicles. It would take a surgical instrument to dislodge grafts this long after hair transplant surgery, so even aggressive scalp rubbing will not dislodge grafts. That said, it’s important to note that hair transplants don’t stop progressive hair thinning, and hair loss. You should have scalp injections done by an experienced professional so needles are not too close to hair follicles to avoid potential damage. I hope this clarifies things for you.

    • @AmiyaPrasadMD
      @AmiyaPrasadMD  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Pavan Kalyan,
      It's normal for hair shafts to shed, but as long as the transplanted hair follicle remains after shedding, then the hair will grow back. This long after your transplant, your grafts are firmly in place and will not be dislodged by scrubbing. If you happen to lose a grafted hair follicle now, it wouldn't have survived anyway as it didn't take to the scalp and a blood supply.
      You can ask your surgeon's advice about when you can go to a more aggressive shampoo for dandruff treatment, as they know the details of your surgery and your scalp that I'm not aware of. I hope this helps you.

      Hi John Wicks,
      Your grafted hair follicles should be firmly in place by now, so what you are seeing may be shock loss, and shed hair from shock loss usually grows back. However, if your surgeon transplanted hair too close to native follicles, those follicles can be damaged permanently. I can't tell what happened in your situation without examining your scalp, so I suggest you follow up with your surgeon who knows details of your scalp and surgery, and can examine your scalp physically. Using a razor on the scalp this long after a hair transplant won't affect growth of transplanted hair, but it might cause ingrown hair, or an infection, so your surgeon is likely trying to avoid unnecessary risks to your scalp. I hope this clarifies things for you.

      Hi Suresh Bhat,
      While your transplanted hair follicles should be intact and able to grow hair after shedding and scab removal, this question is best asked to your transplant surgeon who knows details of your scalp, and your transplant surgery, as well as being in charge of the hair transplant technicians under them. Your transplant surgeon can also examine your scalp for issues. I hope this helps you.

      Hi Nakkeeran Srivasan,
      I'm not sure what you mean as minoxidil is a topical drug, which isn't applied with syringe.
      Treatment is still needed after a hair transplant to treat progressive hair thinning, which isn't treated by a hair transplant at all. I wouldn't recommend minoxidil as a treatment as there are better, more long-term sustainable treatments available, like finasteride to slow hair thinning, and the TrichoStem Hair Regeneration treatment to thicken thinning hair, and stimulate hair growth from dormant hair follicles. You can refer to these videos about why treatment is still needed after a hair transplant, the limitations of minoxidil, and why our TrichoStem Hair Regeneration patients don't need minoxidil after our injection treatment:

      Hi Mandeep singh,
      We don't currently offer the treatment in India, but we do have many Indian patients coming to the US for treatment. Since it is a non-surgical treatment with little to no recovery time, and in many cases no additional treatment, you don't need an extended stay in the US. Many patients actually get back on the plane home the same day as treatment, but I don't recommend this for everyone as it is dependent on general health condition and age. Some patients with advanced hair loss may get a second treatment 15-24 months after the first, and results for international patients are monitored through Skype, FaceTime, or email follow up.

    I’m 6 days post op and currently talking finasteride minoxidil pill I’m curious as to when is a good time to do hair regeneration. Will you have to do the hair regeneration treatment the rest of your life to keep the hair thick or is a 1 year process?

    • @AmiyaPrasadMD
      @AmiyaPrasadMD  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Antwain 84,
      The ideal window for the TrichoStem Hair Regeneration treatment is within 1-2 months after hair transplant surgery to help with graft healing, to thicken native thinning hair, and to stimulate growth from hair follicles that are still viable, but currently not growing. The treatment lasts between 3-5 years, and some patients get a second treatment 15-24 months after the first at no additional charge. While a large percentage of men do continue with finasteride for maximum effectiveness of the treatment, all TrichoStem Hair Regeneration patients can stop or be weaned from minoxidil. I have treated patients again after 5 years, and their hair still looked pretty thick at the time. I hope this clarifies things for you.

      Hi Jennifer Larson,
      You still shouldn't be pulling out hairs or scabs, and allow your scalp to heal. While it isn't likely you damaged a follicle, if you are worried about it you should consult your transplant surgeon who knows details of your surgery, and can examine your scalp to assess healing, and any potential issues. I hope this helps you.

      Hi spurgeon raj,
      As explained in the video, grafts are so firmly in place 48-72 hours after a transplant that it would take a surgical instrument to remove them. You are likely seeing dead skin or keratin, and shed hair shafts, not the actual transplanted follicle. Hair will grow again if the transplanted hair follicle is in place, and if the follicle was not damaged during the extraction process. As I don't know details of your surgery, you can follow up with your surgeon if you have concerns about your transplant surgery. I hope this helps you.

Should they be left to grow normal, they need to be removed or they will shed naturally? As you have mentioned that the follicle embeds inside so it's not easy for them to be plucked out, what should be done ? Should the transplanted hair shed quickly so follicle beneath is allow to grow the hair ? Does the hair at the top hamper hair growth from the follicle ? Your assistance will be highly appreciated.

      If you are already washing your hair after your transplant, and the scabs are gone, that's all you need to do in physically handling your scalp. There are different rates of shedding and regrowth for individuals who had a hair transplant.
