Sanguinius, also known as the "Great Angel" and the "Brightest One" during his lifetime, was the Primarch of the Blood Angels Legion of Space Marines. He was killed during the climax of the Horus Heresy at the Battle of Terra defending the Emperor of Mankind from the Warmaster Horus aboard his flagship, the Battle Barge Vengeful Spirit.
Though Horus slew Sanguinius, who had once been his closest and greatest friend amongst the other Primarchs, Imperial legend holds that it was the chink in Horus' armour created by the Angel that allowed the Emperor to slay the Arch-heretic and thus prevent Mankind from falling to the corruption of the Ruinous Powers of Chaos.
Sanguinius is one of the most beloved figures in the Imperium, he was among both the most noble and mightiest Primarchs. His charisma, humility, and loyalty to the Emperor to the point of self-sacrifice has earned him a great deal of reverence, even in the 41st Millennium.

Some people criticise Sanguinius for being too perfect, but they really miss the point. He was in a constant struggle to keep his dark side under control, he felt terribly ashamed for the gene flaws he gave his sons, he thought his wings - a result of mutation - were disgusting, he almost fell to Chaos one time just to save his sons, he wasn´t the biggest tactical genuis, his tactics were mainly "I will dive bomb the enemy and hope for the best." But despite all of his flaws he remaied at the Emepror´s side untill the end, serving as a beacon of hope and inspiration to the soldiers defending Terra. He went on the Vengeful Spirit knowing full well that he would die there, yet he never faltered. He could have been the greatest champion of Khorne, yet he showed us all what humans are truly capable of if they focus on self-improvement, and embracing their noble side.
I think the reason he’s written to be so perfect is to demonstrate what humans can be at their best. Warhammer is filled with writing like that, with characters showing humans at their extremes like Angron being consumed by rage, or Lorgar being a zealot.
@@TelestoTheBestoHe is written like that because he had to work twice as hard to not be accused of mutation and executed. I think it was mentioned that one of 2 missing Primarchs had some flaw that got him executed and Sanguinius feared the same would come for him. And not just he succeeded,by becoming the greatest Primarch but also he was seen as perfection.
The most remarkable thing about Sanguinius is that he served one of history's greatest tyrants just so he could serve even more of humanity than he could before, all while struggling with his own imperfections and fears.
Sanguinius isn't perfect because he is flawless but because he knows that he is just as flawed as the rest of us. He knows that despite all of his powers and strengths, his wings, his superhuman beauty, his enhanced DNA, his inheritance from the most powerful psyker ever, and his overall supposed demigod-hood that is shared with all of his brothers, he is ultimately human.
He's an evolved human; so are the Space Marines, the other Primarchs, and even the Emperor himself are all evolved humans from our perspective but Sanguinius is the one who never lost sight of that connection, that belief that the little apes from Terra could one day become just as god-like and transcendent as they are.
It's for that hope that he sacrificed his life! He believes in our ability to overcome the impossible so much that he sacrificed his life to give us at least one more chance at becoming more than we are!
We owe it to him to do better. We owe it to him to think better. We owe it to him to be better.

Took me a while, but I've decided I'm in the camp of "Sanguinius should return". As it was prophesied, I think it will be him who comes to the aid of the Emperor and not Dante. Dante has earned his rest; Sanguinius should return to fulfill his role of embodying the initial promise of the Imperium.

@@TheMajorRedwood Dante IS Sanguinius Dante wants to die because the other part of his soul the dark angel part if not with him, so he want to die and rejoin with him in the after life but his subconscious self that used to be Sanguinius wants to live and save his father and humanity

in the warp, the cosmic battle for the souls of sanguiniuses sons waged. 2 angels. one of divine grace and light,the other,of shadow and dark clashed. but they would stop at the sight of the anathema himself.
"let...him...come...back..."
those words were spoken by that shard of the anathema. upon some planet as battle waged,the blood angels were losing horibly. upon the brink...someone indeed came. it was not a bolt of lightning,nor a ray of light. it was dawn. sunlight filtered the dark sky,the daemon kabandha looked in utter horror of what he could see. only one had that aura of majesty. only one had those angel wings. and only one...held that divine spear and blade. standing before his sons and the daemons was sanguinius. the great angel of baal,the man who died for the inperium stood again. and he spoke 3,single words.
"begone. from. here."
the light of the angel scorched the creatures of chaos, kabahndha ran. he had no chance aganst them. the blood angels saw something unheard of. there lord stood before them in all his deific glory. the sons of baal knelt to there lord,as sanguinius turned around....and looked to his sons...with a look of pure, mortal sorrow and elation. dante saw the being. he was on his knees
"my lord...you returned..."
"and i am glad for it, however it may come. it has been too long, and for that...i am truely sorry."
sanguinius saw his sons, those he clearly didnt recognize. and then his eyes were to dante. he saw the future. he saw his sons unbearable torment. he saw his son begging for death. but for dante...he fell. dead. he truely died,that day. the angel grabbed the lords body and looked to his sons
"your commander has done much here. come...we must bury him."
while dante was mourned,the stars sang a new melody. in the darkness of the future there is only war...but...hope now exists. for the great angel has returned.

The pent up sorrow roboute felt surfaced,tears stinging his eyes for the 1st time since he languished in sorrow,and the angel nodded
"I am truely sorry i was not here,for my sons and the inperium at large,but... would you help catch me up?"
The avenging son nodded
"Yes...of course. You will not like what you hear though.
And sanguinus heard it all thoughtfully and nodded
"I guess this was inevitable so to speak."
Guilaman was confused. How could he listen to all that and not shake?
"... what do you mean?"
"Well...i never shared this...i somewhat agreed with lorgar on one view. Man can not be separated from faith. Try as father or anyone might. But what we can learn from it,is that we must overcome our zeal,and look with a more broad perspective,as those who do not know the past...are thus doomed to repeat it."
Guilaman nodded
"...i agree. In any case,we should do our best to fix this,and 1st...we should unite your legion along with the lions."
Sanguinus nodded
"I understand. I think i should be more involved in helping as well."

I like to imagine that if the starchild is found, the greatest battle that the galaxy has ever seen will be waged on terra, every astartes chapter, every soldier of the astra millitarum, every custodian, primarch and even eldar will fight the full might of chaos while the emperor and the star child fuse so that he may return, and at that moment dante will finally know what his mission was, the reason why his rest was delayed for so long, he had to do what his father once did, he had to hold the eternity gate and stop ka'bandha for as long as he could, and just when he is about to be overwhelmed his father will decend along with the emperor himself.
Dante: Father...is it over...?
Sanguinius: At long last my son...
Dante: Finally....thank you...father....
With that. He finally smiles with his last tear dropping before his death arrive.
