    For sure the biggest con is the flood of people that come from spring to fall. Driving is such a slow, go stop go stop, and the prices. Yep Jack you nailed it.

    Hey Jack! Thanks for making this video. I've never been to the Gulf Coast but would love to visit sometime. I have a friend who used to live in Ft. Walton Beach and named her daughter Destin!

    I remember when Destin was a small fishing village, now sadly it's controlled by big money. Everytime that you turn around, they are continuously pushing the locals out. I've been here over 40 years, so sad that what made the Emerald Coast so special has been sold out to make it like Miami or all of the other typical tourist hotspots.

      What..... you don't like the numerous new apartments that house hundreds of other citizens that clog up the road even more than it is?? 🙄 haha. Yeah, it's out of hand. We dont go out to eat during the summer unless it's around 4. After that....forget it. Im not waiting 2 hours at Mcguires or Boschamps. Late fall and early spring are still great though.

    We fished the pier you mentioned. It was great!! All the different people fishing and seeing the different types of fish. We also saw sea turtles & dolphins that day. There was a guy that caught a shark also.

    Can’t forget Boathouse Oyster Bar! An ode to old Destin. I’ve spent a ton of time in Destin/Okaloosa/Pensacola and would say the Ft Pickens water/beach is equivalent both in sand and water color. Especially the Ft Pickens location Brant was at, at the end of your video. As many have said… Destin is MOBBED now with tourists but I still head over during the fishing rodeo as this is a worthwhile experience!

      I love the rodeo and listening to bands and having drinks while watching the boats come in at AJs. Such a great time even with the crowds and traffic!

    Hey From Destin!! Who remembers the 'Green Knight'? One of our secret 'locals' hangout is the 'Boathouse Oyster Bar' in the Harbor. Thanks for the video!!

    We visited last April for a week on the east side of Destin at Silver Shells. I recommend PH5 in the St Maarten building for the best beach views and shortest walk to the beach. Great place, awesome white sand beach, clear blue water. Downside was it was a bit chilly and windy all week, low sixties at night, low seventies during the day, found ourselves putting on/taking off hoodies throughout the day on the beach. It might have been an unseasonal weather week though. Fantastic seafood all around the area but my absolute favorite place is Bochamps for a nice sit down dinner (get your name in for a table early, there will be over an hour wait if you don't). Get the smoked tuna app and the collards are amazing if you like collards. The Back Porch is great for a casual meal walking right off the beach. It's less than 100 yards from Silver Shells so we were there almost every day for either a lunch, dinner, happy hour, or night cap on the way home after a night out somewhere else. Fantastic shucked oysters and the Amerjack sandwich is off the charts. Say high to Joey the bartender, he took care of us all week. The Boathouse Oyster Bar is a one of a kind, make sure you bring a dollar bill with you, you'll know what I'm talking about when you get there. Avoid the chain restaurants, there's just too many great local places to chose from. We Ubered all week which was convenient, you'll need to use a taxi service to and from Destin/Ft Walton airport because the Uber drivers don't want to get caught way out at the airport on a one-way fare.

    I was looking to buy a condo at Villas On The Gulf a few years back but put it off and now the prices have tripled or more. To me Pensacola was the best kept secret but now it seems everyone has caught on to Pensacola. Still one of our favorite destinations.

    Last time I was in Destin I found it to be one of the few places that seriously enforced the law FL passed about beachfront property “owning” the beach in front of it and the public beach accesses near some condo properties were kicking people off the beaches directly in front of the condos and you had to walk a really long way to find a spot. I lived in Seminole/IRB area for several years and no one really did this. Super disappointing to block off so much of the beaches. Destin has gorgeous beaches but I found it to be a sad and less than fun time because of that.

    Destin has some awesome places to eat🍤. One of my favorites is Boshamp's on Hwy. 98. I would say in the last 7 years that stores are much better in Destin and Miramar. Until this year, Destin high schoolers had to commute to a local highschool. Now there is Destin Highschool.

      Hey Boss 46 really gotta agree with you about PCB but it, like every place on the Panhandle, has turned their back on old locals and seeks that NEW money. I still have a house off of Clara just about a half mile walk to Hooters. I would live and die there but my wife's family is in Ft Lauderdale. This area makes PCB look like it's running SLOW. Got stationed there in 1982 and then worked for the Navy 17 yrs. so I know what it "used to look like."

    We just got back from one of our many trips to Destin. It is beautiful but sometimes disappointing when you travel almost 600 miles to a swamp of june grass. That's the chance we take because you can't fight mother nature🙂🌴

  • @DanYeLL2003
    @DanYeLL2003 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    The traffic is absolutely ridiculous during season(April-September)…. So, so, so bad. Theres only ONE bridge onto the island from Fort Walton and it’ll take 30/35 minutes to get over it. Then you better not rely on an Uber because none of the drivers wanna go over that bridge to get anybody. All the locals live in Fort Walton because it is kinda reasonably priced(not really), but if you actually do live in Destin it is a complete ghost town in the off season because most people don’t live there. 90% of the houses/condo’s are owned by people that never come there. So most those great restaurants and shops that are open in summer are closed during off season.
