Very cool. My first car was a '78 Fairmont. Yellow 4-door, tan interior. In-line 6cyl with a single bbl carb. Not anything super exciting, but I could stuff five girls into and it was super reliable. Which made them want to go with me since other guys didn't know how to wrench and fix their own cars. So I ended up fixing most of their cars... Keep up the great content!
Sleepers are so much fun. I had a 2015 eco-boost mustang that was 400hp. All the challenger and charger guys would try to race me because it didn’t say 5.0 on the fenders. I would always slow down after blowing them away and let them know that it was a four-cylinder, the look on their face was priceless especially if their girlfriends were in the car with them LOL 😂
I had one just like this car, 302, 4 barrel, and shortly after I bought it with a dead transmission and fixed it up, I pulled up next to a Z28 at a light and started reving. The guy laughed at me, and I thought he wasn't going to accept. When the light turned green, he punched it, and I was delayed but quickly responded the same. Half way to the light, a half mile away, I passed him up. When we both stopped at the next light, he threw his hands up and shook his head. He wouldn't look me in the eye. It was a real quiet running car most. of the time. I only needed a quarter throttle to merge on to the freeway. I would get comments about how much power the car had getting on the freeway, and quiet, like taking off in a DC9/MD-80. The interior looked like S. I put seat covers on and new carpet. Chics always gave me dirty stares and some would even say, "Get a better car!" I loved that car. I would love to have it for the unlikely chance that I should ever date a white American woman. You guys and your laughter brought back great memories.
i love a fairmont for 1 but i like your style with the dog dish hubcaps, stock interior plus that its not a crossbreed! i lucked out when i found my 78' 4 dr fairmont it was a sleeper from day 1 it started life out as a factory 2 barrel 302/c4 car. i got it 16yrs ago and people would ask me why build a fairmont? to which id say why not? it was different and a mustang in sheeps metal..
I love it. Consider one thing though. In a crash ( wreck) that roll cage with either dent your skull (rear and side impacts) Or rib cage ( side impacts). If you roll your head wobbles all over the place so could hit cage a few times, like a base ball bat attack. Maybe cover lower side bars in a shared one piece soft material and cover upper bars in something soft?
Lol - Love that Andy made a point to state that he did this shit WAY before whoever this Eric guy is. Get it straight, that Eric copied our friend Andy - not the other way around. Hi Andy!
What a fun build. Brilliant. The sick part is that this is Fairmont II hahaha. This car belongs on Woodward Ave. (They reopened a section for drag racing during Dream Cruise Week in the past couple years and this one would steal the show!!). Great stuff!!
Hey can you ask him what muffler/exhaust he's using? I'm building a turbo Fairmont as well, and really liked the not too loud rumble of Andy's car. I'm also in Michigan!
First of all I love it!!! Second I am a 100% a ford fan!. Be careful with that 5.0. There great motors to a point. They will only handle around 600hp until they literally break in half. Yeah.. We have broke 5 in HALF!! Literally!!! Now we have a aftermarket block and its awesome!! We run 9's on our 5.0 NA in our mustang .And I wonder where he got that rust free fairmont. Not in michigan for sure.
I built one of these in the late 80's, was a 2.3 stick.~ 289, 4bbl, c-4 auto. Messed up using a 7.5 posi from a stick shift Mustang. Wrong gear ratios. Was a dog out of the hole, but didn't need overdrive. BTW, the c-4 and driveshaft came out of a 76 Granada 250 straight 6, fit like a glove.
Hell Ya! Love that Fairmont with the muscle. Nice car with proper patina, 10 second/qtr. mile on tap, plaid seats, steelies, it's the bomb! lol Years ago I didn't want to daily drive my new (at the time) 911 Carrera so I drove an old beat up Camaro with a big block/stick and a similar patina. I got the Camaro for free from an old lady (I fixed a broken tranny/clutch) who had bashed every single (I kid you not) panel on that car, it didn't have one square foot of straight body panel anywhere. My insurance agent told me the car had so much damage, they would not cover ANY body work on that car. Merican Muscle!
Just picked up a turbo Fairmont with 60k miles. Elderly couple that purchased it new. Evidently the turbo is comically rare. Though it's rare for all the wrong reasons. Only produced the turbo in 1980. Never in a million years would I have expected to purchase one, but I how could I say no. Unsure if I'm going to flip or keep. Just busy viewing the limited Fairmont content here on TH-cam before I decide.
I missed the opportunity to buy a 4 door years back, had the same intentions, Fox body mods from a 90 GT. Since then have only seen one other and unfortunately couldn’t buy it from the junkyard. Was a complete car too 😔
I have an '80 Futura coupe with the exact same red plaid interior, the owner is absolutely right- the women at the shows see the interior first while the guys see the blown 5.0 first. Without fail. Great box top, with I could find another. Rare cars.
Yes! Love sleepers. They're great ego reducers. That one I'd never suspect; especially to be fuel injected with a turbo! Fun car! I wouldn't mind seeing a Cadillac CTS-V. I've never seen one in person. Saw the ATS-V coupe and sedan, but not the CTS-V. A 4-door Supercharged V8, with 640-hp, that isn't from Germany...MURECA!
Normal Guy Supercar This video proves that you are a normal guy. Most of your supercar contemporaries wouldn't give this car a second glance, let alone look at it at all and lol or do a review like this! I'm digging the channel more and more! Thanks!
Andrew Hiestand Kool! I like to think I have a keen eye for the factory Fox removable roof. Such a kool sleeper! I'm a proud owner of one of the 1177 Reef Blue Metallic 93 notchbacks.
I want to know what happened to the 5.0 mustang that this came out of. that car looked nice. I assume he totaled it and saved the engine and put it in the fairmont. I never liked the fairmont, The fairmont needs some meet uner the metal as that thing looks dangerous with the skinnies on it.
The mustang was sold. It was the perfect example of what not to do in a “street” car (ie gutted interior, racing seats, full manual vb trans, fuel cell).... everything in the Fairmont was done as a direct result of what I learned from that car. As a result I now have a car that is just as quick as the mustang, that I would hop in and drive across the country without any second thought. Btw, it has a 275/60 tire on the back. Not exactly a skinny tire!
I think you're missing the point. Cheap, light weight nerdy looking cars always make the best sleepers, it's all about building something fast that doesn't look like it's fast. Spend all the money on the drive-train and suspension parts, screw the body and how unstylesss it may look.
This was fun. I never saw a sleeper Fairmont before. Gotta be fun. Hope I see it up here in GR some time. I'd know...it wouldn't sound right.> I had a Fairmont, and my brother enjoyed the Zephyr in your 'Red Patina' version. Good, solid cars, if treated gently. Never saw a lot of the mechanic with those.
10s in a Mustang, it'll run faster in that Fairmont, the Fairmont is WAAYYYY light....lighter than that Mustang for sure. Mine is a 79 Futura, 302V8,C4 auto with a.c....all iron, but the total weight stock is under 3000lbs...ANYTHING that will bolt to a 79-04 Mustang will work for a Fairmont...the ultimate sleeper...
Very cool. My first car was a '78 Fairmont. Yellow 4-door, tan interior. In-line 6cyl with a single bbl carb. Not anything super exciting, but I could stuff five girls into and it was super reliable. Haha! Gotta love those old boxy designs.

Heck yeah! I also like all the ways people try to make a car fast yet seemingly tame.
I did that with my v6 3.8l buick powered 81 camaro... love the butthurt people got.
Next build is gonna be a 4dr fairmont hopefully
Thank God it's Ford powered
Yuup! Ford makes some good motors.
Amen
I love a good sleeper.
My favorite for sure.
Heck yeah!
I've had 2 old Fairmonts. Both had mildly built 5.0's. Both were 4 doors. They surprised a lot of people.
They are cool cars
Damn that’s nuts! When I first saw the title I was thinking “whoa is that Eric the Car Guy’s Fairmont project??”
Haha! It's a crazy car for sure! I love projects like this.
My dad's got a 9sec Fairmont wagon coyote turbo
I had one just like this car, 302, 4 barrel, and shortly after I bought it with a dead transmission and fixed it up, I pulled up next to a Z28 at a light and started reving. Eric the car guy tried to do a sleeper Fairmont but failed bad. This one is far superior, very nice.
I haven't seen the videos of Eric's yet, I should probably check those out.
Born and spent the first 5 years of my life in Kalamazoo/Portage. Makes me want to go back after all these years. Love the Fairmont!
That Fairmont is crazy!
Awesome. I plan to do this same thing with my 84 Lincoln Continental, another fox body car. Thanks for sharing
Hell yes! Do it! That would be an awesome sleeper.
Normal Guy Supercar just need my channel to grow to make it a reality. Thanks
i love a fairmont for 1 but i like your style with the dog dish hubcaps, stock interior plus that its not a crossbreed! i lucked out when i found my 78' 4 dr fairmont it was a sleeper from day 1 it started life out as a factory 2 barrel 302/c4 car. i got it 16yrs ago and people would ask me why build a fairmont? to which id say why not? it was different and a mustang in sheeps metal..
Yup, same car basically just not as popular not as well known.
I love it.
Consider one thing though.

If you roll your head wobbles all over the place so could hit cage a few times, like a base ball bat attack.

Ok
When the "plaid" skit came up, I was trying to find the skip ad button!
Same haha
Essentially what EricTheCarGuy did to his Fairmount. Love the idea of an old sleeper. Awesome car!
I'll have to check out that channel. Haven't heard of it.
This car has been together since way before Eric the car guy
Eric’s doesn’t look like a sleeper at all though.
Lol - Love that Andy made a point to state that he did this shit WAY before whoever this Eric guy is. Get it straight, that Eric copied our friend Andy - not the other way around. Hi Andy!
ETCG dumped $45,000 into his....He did it wrong.
Sometimes different is just better. Thumbs up.
Thanks
Back in the day I always rented a Fairmont when out of town on vacation because I could see the scenery so well out of the great big windshield.
Very cool!
Any details on the engine? Stock block? Heads? Internals? Nice to see 5.0 builds with all the ls stuff around.
This motor was a stock 98 explorer bottom end with world Windsor Sr. Heads and TFS R intake. Stock 5.0 HO cam.
That’s classic - love the plaid seats! Reminds me of my classic 1977 Chevy Nova - 4 door sedan. Man, that thing is CLEAN!
Heck yeah! I miss my old 71 Nova.
What a fun build. Brilliant. The sick part is that this is Fairmont II hahaha. This car belongs on Woodward Ave. (They reopened a section for drag racing during Dream Cruise Week in the past couple years and this one would steal the show!!). Great stuff!!
Duuuude. I loved going to the Dream Cruise. Such a fun event. I should go back one of these years.
Hey can you ask him what muffler/exhaust he's using? I'm building a turbo Fairmont as well, and really liked the not too loud rumble of Andy's car. I'm also in Michigan!
Hopefully he'll see this
We're sitting with Andy right now - he says, at the time of the video, he had "3.5" downpipe to dual 2.5 dinomax ultraflows."
Love the plaid! You're getting dangerously close to 10,000 Dan! Congrats!
Thanks! I know I'm excited! I need to think of something fun to do for 10k!
I just seen the video,I live in kalamazoo and haven't seen the car around yet? But that is one hell of a sleeper!!
Awesome car. In highschool someone had a 1962 nova 4 banger base body with a stock chevy 327 ,
wats the set up? nice sleeper u got there
First of all I love it!!! Second I am a 100% a ford fan!. Be careful with that 5.0. There great motors to a point. They will only handle around 600hp until they literally break in half. Yeah.. Yeah I don't think it was a Michigan car
I never had any problems on mt dr,s been 70 with a down pour on I;95
Awesome dude 🚗💨🤘

Nice!
And you can SEE EVERYTHING out of that low beltline. Modern cars are like sitting in caves.
Dig the hubcaps. Reminds me of my dad's 78 Fairmont. White, hubcaps, basic blue interior, looked like something out of a US Government motor pool. :D
It needs really wide tires in the rear. Not tubbed Pro Street steamrollers, but some Viper sized beef in the back.
Agreed
Hell Ya! Love that Fairmont with the muscle. Lol MURICA! I love crazy sleepers like this.
Thanks god it wasn't another LS with a powerglide swap.
Indeed!
Right it would be a death trap with an ls in it
the roll bar kind of gives it away, if it was out of sight maybe, but the sound I think really gives it away at the very lease it makes you wonder.
Eh, still, it's badass.
@@normalguysupercar I didn't say it wasn't, I think its great
Awesome!
The king of sleepers!
What turbo is it I run a 6768 hp and a 70gtq
Not sure but I think it's 88mm.

Yeah they certainly aren't common any more
And streetable, that’s nice AF
Heck yeah!
@@normalguysupercar is he on YT or FB? I am looking at building a Fairmont Futura.
I have a 81 with the same interior. Mine is getting a 5.4 4v.
Nice
I have an '80 Futura coupe with the exact same red plaid interior, the owner is absolutely right- the women at the shows see the interior first while the guys see the blown 5.0 first. Without fail. Great box top, with I could find another. Rare cars.
Haha! I love the plaid.
I have a 78 futura. I think it is great!
Love the Fairmont!
Heck yeah
I love it. I am Planning a project like this soon.
Very cool
Kewl sleepers, I had a 79 coupe radio delete Robins egg blue.Dumped a 67 289 in it.
Nice
You won't crush the ego of the Viper driver. He'd blow the Fairmont away while your buddy's smoking those T/A radials...but, the car is A1...love it!
Uh I think you have that wrong. This Fairmont should easily run 10s. That Viper is not a 10 second car.
I wish you showed it at the track, I would love to see it run the 1/4 mile.
If I ever get back up there I'll have to do that.
There was this one guy Adam that had a viper just like that one at the oasis cars n coffee
Hmm, I didn't see that car.
Nice FORD👍
That car was amazing and your friend is a cool guy
Yes and yes.
Thank you!
Dan, I remember those cars when I was a kid.... I just found this video.😁😁
Haha heck yeah! Probably a little less horsepower though...
Driver fits the car perfectly
Haha yes
Nice!! He loves his car a "fair amount"!!
Oh geeze. That was terrible. LOL!
Yes! Love sleepers. They're great ego reducers. That one I'd never suspect; especially to be fuel injected with a turbo! Fun car! I wouldn't mind seeing a Cadillac CTS-V. YES! Those CTS-V's are bad-ass! I really love the wagons too!!
Yeah! A couple years ago, I saw the wagon featured on someone's channel and it had a manual trans. Insane!
Certified badass!
Hell yes it it!
Hard to find car. Our high school had these for driver's Ed. and they would ping like crazy. I still liked them though.
Yeah, and it's clean too.
Soooo cool. Love it👌
Hell yeah
Anniversary what?? What day was that? My wife’s and my 11th anniversary is today, 18 August!
This was on August 12.
Put a 427 in it. That would be a cool sleeper
Nice. But arguably it already is
That Fairmont rips.
Hell yeah
Happy Anniversary Dan to you and Meg!
Btw that Fairmont is indeed a sleeper. But I doubt it can beat me ;-)
It's an outstanding sleeper!
Is this guy on YT or FB?

Thanks! What can I say... I'm just a simple cat guy from Michigan. I love my MURICA muscle as much as Ferrari's and Exotics.
Yes, it is a factory sun roof and they are rare. That car came from the factory with every option but a 8V.

I have a 80 four door up for grabs. 26,000 miles granny car.
Badass
That is fucking awesome, lmaoo
Hell yeah
Love it!!

Ha, something about a car like that is almost more fun/entertaining/"cool" than a car that everyone already expects to be fast
It's hilarious when you pull up at a light and people have no idea they are about to get spanked. LOL!
More Fairmont please
Hmm OK
You can't be a sleeper AND have a massive roll cage showing lol tint that thing!
Lol!
He needs a bad tint job. Either purple or bubbling lmao
Cool car and video
Thanks!
I didn’t know dana white had a fairmont 😂
Lol
This was fun. I never saw a sleeper Fairmont before. Gotta be fun. Hope I see it up here in GR some time. I'd know...it wouldn't sound right.> I had a Fairmont, and my brother enjoyed the Zephyr in your 'Red Patina' version. Good, solid cars, if treated gently. Never saw a lot of the mechanic with those.
Haha yeah by sound it's fairly obvious to a gearhead that somethings up with this car.
Put it up to the Chiron lol
Well yeah I mean if you spend over $1M on a car a should hope it's faster...
You guy's ever see the 5 second Grand National? It will destroy the Chiron. Or the 63 Vette super car killer?
It reminds me of the Naked Gun car lol
Haha yes!
10s in a Mustang, it'll run faster in that Fairmont, the Fairmont is WAAYYYY light....lighter than that Mustang for sure.

Excuse me ,why does grandma have 1200 Horsepower?
Lol gotta get to bingo first.
AHAHAHHAHAHAHA all the smart people know ... its how that car is sitting.
Also, tint the windows to hide the roll cage.
You should put some Ferrari shields on that Fairmont.
Ferrari, Fairmont, ...fast enough!
Haha! It's the Ferrari Farimonte Speciale K-edition. Lol.
YES! More cool shit, please!!!
On the way!
Mercury zephyr😊
Dan did you finish your breakfast? Don't be a quiter. Awesome shout out to the cafe..

I'm guessing a little less horsepower...
Just a tad 😆
hahah Kalamazoo hello from battle creek
