Always wanted to hit up Bonthe Island one day and you've given me a preview on what to expect Sis!🙌🏽 Thanks for this insight!🇸🇱 So many hidden treasures to discover in Salone.
First Sierra Leonean Utuber to take us to Bonthe. Never mind, you will make an other trip in the future with a local tour guide. I really enjoyed the Vlog. 👍👍
Enjoyed your tour! I served in the Peace Corps. I taught at Bonthe Secondary School from August 1973 To June 1974. Thoroughly loved my time there. Wonderful people.
I am glad to see that there is new construction going on. The Secondary School, where I used to teach, looks good. At that time it was run by Irish Catholic priests. You call it Bonthe Island, but I think the real name is Sherbro Island. (Maybe it has changed.) In Bonthe, the people were Mende, but in the island villages I believe they were Sherbro. Sam Margai, brother of the Prime Minister, was a local businessman. Paterson Zochonis was a big trading company, and Standard Bank had a branch there. There were many Lebanese traders too. They used to ship out tons of piassava, natural brush fiber, from the port of Bonthe. Sherbro piassava was highly prized. But the port silted up, the ships couldn't come in, and the trade died off. Thank you for this Vlog.
I'm born and bred from Baimbay Road, Bonthe. The islanders are called Bonthenian and Sherbros. Regardless of the town people mende does not mean they are from the mende tribe, they are still pure Sherbros. Just imagine if you speak krio or English does not make you Krio or British. Bonthe island was stolen from the sitia chiefdom by the British during their invasion and became a colony. Thank you for your visit to my birth place and thank you for your good and hard work.
This has been a trip back in my past. So sad to see how things are falling apart. I lived at 13 Medina st up till 1978. Went to St Patrick's and B.S.S. I wish you showed along Medina st. Thank you so much.
Interesting you lived in Medina st so were we as my parents had their business/ house there too. The best part of my life is in Bonthe and freetown and ended up in godless immoral west canada I absolutely abhor and regretted we came to for university and stayed unfortunately so! Do you recall a lebanese business man called Mr Anthony and the Solomon's.... Relatives amongst many others there then! Dr Kamara was a great family doctor and friend of my family decades later in freetown as well. Thank you. God bless.☦️☦️☦️
When I was working for the Special Court I did stay in 2002 for 3 months in Bonthe. We had to grade up the Prison to International standards. It was a difficult time because there was no electricity and the food was limited. But it was still a nice place with great people and I made many friends. It is nice to see how things are developed. Thanks for the video it brings many memories back.
Thank you girl I was waiting for this video you did a good job showing the Bonthe town I wish you could have got a tour guide. Bonthe is rich with historical artifacts. Thanks for visiting my school Minnie mull girls school looks the same after 26 years of leaving that island 😍
Thanks for this interesting Tour and and to see all the Historic buildings is encouraging and lovely. You did a great job at exploring the traditional food and wine there that will make anybody want to come visit. Thanks again and Be Blessed!
Sierra Leone can do a lot with domestic tourism. Sierra Leone has everything. Bonthe has everything to bring revenues to it's community. Historic, scenic, serene and unspoilt. We sure make a trip to Bonthe after seeing this video. Its worth the experience.
I was born there moved to freetown and came to Canada in 1988 for university studies 36 years later, I realize the very best part of my life are the first 1 years in west Africa esp. The first 9 years in Bonthe. I absolutely hate the west as I donut recommend any to come too the immoral godless Filthy west. I would love to see if any can connect with me as we were know as Anthony from Medina street as my parents were entrepreneurs of lebanese descent. Please do proper clips and aim on the roads to show the places Not the air.or the trees as most of the videos are....not good captioning of the place!
