  • Brazil wants to acquire 33 Javelin Command Launch Units along with 222 FGM-148 Javelin missiles. DSCA values the likely deal at around $74 million. The price also includes services that the US government will have to provide - training instructors, simulated missiles, technical assistance,
DSCA claims the sale is in the interest of US-led foreign policy. According to the agency, this sale should also strengthen political stability and economic progress in South America.
The prime contractors will be Raytheon/Lockheed Martin Javelin Joint Venture, Orlando, Florida, and Tucson, Arizona. There are no known offsetting agreements proposed in connection with this potential sale.
The Javelin CLU is the device that launches the FGM-148 Javelin missiles. It consists mainly of two parts - a triple optical system and the launch tube. The optical system serves to find, aim and launch the missile. Interestingly, this system can be used on its own as a portable thermal sight.
