This does not work anymore. Not only were the lumber requirements increased, but the water byproduct was decreased. It's not worth the hassle to try to sustain off of this.
It still works, but requires some tweaks. It doesnt need phophorite anymore which is a huge plus (no drecko ranch required for loop). Just P.Water and dirt maybe? The Petrol Genny can feed more than one tree, so it is sustainable (or you can just use wild trees in a pip ranch). If you choose to clean the water you can use electrolyzers or oxyferns (for small colonies). If you dont clean the water it just goes into as many trees or other plants as you want. Pips eat some of the trees giving you dirt, the polluted dirt from the distiller can be used for more dirt or, if you have excess, can be fed to pokeshells for sand, lime, eggs, meat.
@@ashurroth6585 8 trees > 4 Distillers > 1 Gen should only cost you 183.28 g/s of Polluted O2. You could likely make that up from bathroom overflow. All that is assuming the numbers on the wiki are correct.

lumber needs increased, polluted water byproduct decreased. Now, you either need either 36 trees to run this or over two tons of polluted water a cycle to sustain just off of this.
I tried burning super-heated ethanol with 1kg packets it worked but it caused some ethanol steam to appear. Not sure if that is the intended result from doing that or not, or if I still got the full power output value of the ethanol. I saw a bug report saying that the condensed ethanol on the ground may actually be greater or equal in volume to the input ethanol. My guess is that there are still some ethanol burning issues in regards to using the petroleum generator.
Definitely. Ethanol has a specific heat capacity of 2460 DTU/kg/C, and if I recall correctly, a distiller produces 2500 DTU/s of heat and ~1/2 kg/s of ethanol at a temperature of 10 C. So just having the ethanol circulate through the distillery room and absorb enough heat to go up 2 C is enough to keep that room cool. This might change in the future, particularly if they change the output temperature of the distiller (I would not be surprised to see it output at 40 C in the next patch), but for now, the easiest solution to keeping the distillers cool is to just have the ethanol run through a radiant liquid pipe through the room before it heads down to the petroleum generator.
As far as I can tell, every asteroid type has caustic biomes as one of the available types, so you should get about as many of the big phosphorite veins as before. Some asteroids though will be devoid of animal life, and so you'll need to send a rocket to fetch dreckos, which are the renewable source of phosphorite.
The numbers have changed-- it's still free resources if you use wild trees, and still water positive if you use domesticated trees + slicksters, but the process is slightly water negative now if you are using domesticated trees.
In order to use that efficiently in some ways you would need a ton of sand, for converting p oxygen to c oxygen, cleaning water etc, also, how to get more sand? I have none left on the asteroid that's minable.
@@johnwept5250 but i dont have sand. and that distiller he keeps talking about is the icon for the Algae Distiller. I don't want to convert slime to algae.
It can be, though I think the main reason I want to ranch the crabs is for their shells. Right now, lime is the major bottleneck for steel production-- with these new crabs, we can break down the shells that they molt into lime and produce a lot more steel than we used to. But the sand production is nice too, provides us an easy way to keep our glass forges, water sieves, and deodorizers going without having to breach the asteroid surface.

Phospate is not common, you will have to ranch dreks to get it, meaning your not doing it without a drek farm so much for infinite scaling. I have built and played with that system and I'll tell you that the part they don't really warn you about is just how much Carbon your going to be producing and just how much heat you make. That means you need 2 more systems in place to deal with it....Next, the main reason to build the generator is to produce power but your power is going to go into dealing with the waste products particularly carbon and also heat. You wont really come out ahead until each thing is properly dealt with and you guys sell this thing like its super powerful when its not and its potentially dangerous until all its components are properly put into place.A full half of your power production is going to producing fuel...That leaves you with just a little over 1K power to work with and you'd be surprised just how fast that goes bye bye if your investing it into enough carbon skimmers to deal with the Carbon, which Im kinda thinking may as well pack into a tank...But that means your just putting off an issue.
I start with a good digging dupe and rush caustic biome for algae, phosphorous and coal. I let bathroom output go to hydro plot trees, generally about 3-4, so the logs are building up and I don't have to bother with digging up every tree (wild trees take a while to regrow).
