  • It's expensive to travel to Puerto Rico, at least when compared with many other Caribbean and Latin American destinations.
I added up all of the costs associated with my solo, 19-day journey across the island. The total came to $4,304 or $227 per day, on average.
    Major Trip Costs 💵
•$1,851 - 18 nights at seven different Airbnbs
    •$883 - 40+ meals
    •$665 - 18-day rental car contract
•$232 - two-day Jeep Wrangler rental on Vieques Island
•$226 - roundtrip flights on Southwest Airlines from Orlando to San Juan
•$153 - gasoline for both rental cars
•$115 - 18-day SpotHero reservation near the Orlando Internation Airport
    •$179 - other assorted costs
Filmed in April 2023 with a Sony FX3 + GoPro HERO11 + DJI Mavic Air 2 + RØDE Wireless GO II

You could save a lot by staying in local hotel or paradores and eating in places outside the tourist gringo areas and that amount would go down almost in half.

I spent around $100/night on average at Airbnbs in PR. From everything I saw online, hotels were much more expensive than that, even low-quality hotels.

@@KevinAcrossAmerica dude, there are very cheap alternatives but I don't want gringos getting into those, if you don't have the money to travel then stay in your country and stop expecting everything being cheap for your convenience.

@@RealengoPrimordialDemon There is no reason to be nasty. I had a wonderful time in Puerto Rico and I personally felt the money I spent was well worth the experiences I took home with me.

In my opinion, Puerto Rico was certainly worth the money I spent. I produced this video to give people an idea of what the various costs are. I have five or six videos left to post on destinations I visited across the island. Thanks for watching and commenting, Steven!

I was in Puerto Rico for three weeks and loved it. I hope to make a return trip sooner rather than later.

A am not on your Island and NOT in Puerto Rico. I am in Costa Rica in Central America and an Independent Republic since 1821. Prior to that a part of the 1st Mexican Empire. Prior to that a part of the Spanish Empire.
I am so tired of ignorant Americans and it is always ignorant Americans that don't know the difference

I enjoyed every meal I ate in Puerto Rico. The Pork Highway was among my favorite stops.

Yes, I had recently looked into a trip to Puerto Rico for `10 to 14 days. But the hotels were more costly than many cities in the US and crime is definitely a problem along with drugs. I went to Mexico instead. I am American, a retired physicist, age 75 living in Costa Rica. Many seem to get Puerto Rico mixed up with Costa Rica

I agree, the hotels were very pricey, which is why I opted to book Airbnbs for my entire trip. Thankfully, I felt very safe while traveling solo in Puerto Rico, but I didn't take any uneccessary risks. I'm visiting Costa Rica and Panama in October. I'd welcome any suggestions you may have.

@@KevinAcrossAmerica Trying again. Forget Panama City, Colon San Jose and Limon. Bocas del Toro Panama is great. A group of islands. Just hail a water taxi to get to them. For Costa Rica La Fiortuna. Given the name escaping a volcano. Has horseback riding, zip lining the longest in the world. River rafting to Class V.
Never rent B&B from an American or Canadian. Never knew a one that was not a real estate scammer who lost their license in the US. I prefer Hostels and meeting people.
I have a Visa Run due first week of October and will be going to Bocas.
I live in San Marcos Tarrazu, about 3 hours drive from San Jose. Bus here costs $2.90. This is where the best and most expensive coffee comes from.
BTW, dental procedures in Mexico, Costas Rica and Panama are 8 to 12 % the cost as in the US. Dental Vacations are done in these places. Dentists much better than in the US. Though don't go for dental implants. That is for those under 35 who lost their teeth in an accident or fight.

@@riskyron1416 Costa Rica is far more expensive than Puerto Rico and you have more chances of getting robbed or killed in any city in the US than in Puerto Rico

@@RealengoPrimordialDemon Well aware of that Puerto Rico is far more expensive than Costa Rica. Here I rent a 7 bed/5 bath house with 4 car garage on 23 acres for $153 a month. You would never find anything that cheap in Puerto Rico. I can get 4 star hotels here for $25 a night. You will never find that in Puerto Rico. . US is loaded with drugs and guns. Other countries have far less. Puerto Rico is still the US, just not a state, but nontheless a Territory. Also by living outside the US I am US Income Tax Exempt on $107,300 a year. In Puerto Rico I wold not have that exemption plus be paying Puerto Ricra and US Income Taxes. No thanks to that. Additionally Costa Rica has never had a hurricane. Puerto Rico gets many.

Well you will find more Puerto Rican Women in New York City than in Puerto Rico. And they don't much care for White Americans.
