- Join us as we travel along Googs Track, north of Ceduna, South Australia. Googs track is a series of 362 undulating sand dunes over 160km from just north of Ceduna to Tarcoola road, near Tarcoola. The track is a 4wd bush track that weaves up and down through sand dunes of varying height and difficulty, depending on the conditions and time of year. It is in a remote, arid desert region, so travelers need to carry extra fuel, food and water as the only facilities are a drop toilet at Googs lake. The nearest fuel is Ceduna to the south and Glendambo to the north. There is no mobile reception, except limited reception at a viewing point at Mt. Finke.
Firstly, we visit Goog's Memorial, then travel on to our first camp site at Googs Lake. We explore the lake area and then drive along the track to Mt. Finke to our second camp site, and then on to the end of Googs track where it crosses the Trans-Australian railway line and meets the Tarcoola road.
A little history...
Goog and his family spent every weekend for 3 years pushing the track through the rugged scrub to create a road to help local farmers get their produce to the railway line and a broader market. They started with just a tractor and blade, but over time they built bulldozers to use as well. They received no government support, only that of local farmers. It is a testament to their dedication and perseverance, and a joy to 4wd enthusiasts. It is definitely one to put on your bucket list!

Absolutely, well worth a visit!
Great adventure😊
It certainly was, I love exploring Googs Lake! Next time we’re going to explore the little known tracks in the park and visit the other lakes in the park. 😊
Good general coverage. May coax my wife out. She had been quite put off by the "wobat holes" of over inflated &/trailer halers along The French Line 8 years ago.
It’s a great drive, not too bumpy, if that’s what she’s worried about. If you’re thinking about it join the Googs Track fb page to keep updated on conditions and as a platform to ask questions from other enthusiasts.
Thanks, yes I went S-N years ago, then N-S last June. I don't notice bumps & rocking much, so the steadiness of your horizon has me hoping for a convert!
Hi we did Googs Track in 2017 from memory....fantastic trip. After Googs we went to Coober Pedy headed west from CP and did The Anne Beadell Highway. ..if you have the time take a look at The Anne Beadell Highway...from what i have seen you two do i think you would love The ABH. Thanks for the memories....Matt.
Thanks for the tip, we’ll look it up for sure. We love to go where others don’t 😊
We’ll do some research on it. How long did the ABH take you from start to finish?
@@onroadslesstravelled hi...we took 8 days from Coober Pedy....no rush.
