    very nice! thank you, haha two pistol shots thats a good rule of thumb will remember that for our upcoming season!

  • @gfewster1
    @gfewster1 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Think you got the distance based on the historical reference wrong! Certainly not a matter of miles, 2 pistol shots would be about 100 yards or so. Old naval expressions of rough distances: biscuit toss = 10-20 yards; pistol shot = 50-60 yards; musket shot = 100-150 yards.

    In the 80's you might find 2 boats max and no marina in Marigot Bay.

    Here's a bit of a coincidence, I just watched (it's October 28, 2018 today) Episode 19 when you made landfall in St. Lucia. We were doing a land-based vacation at the Sandals on Rodney Bay that same week that you arrived, we were there for 10 days just after Christmas. That particular Sandals had a new Hobie Getaway, a sloop-rigged cat, a bit unusual since most hotels only have single sail Hobie Waves which are suitable for novices but kind of boring for anyone with some experience (we own a Hobie 16). The winds were generally good that week and we were blasting back and forth across Rodney Bay most afternoons, including January 4th. I'm certain I had a GoPro mounted on the Hobie on the 4th (it was a Thursday) - i'll have to go back and carefully review the video I captured and see if I can spot your boat. I've enjoyed your videos, thanks for posting, generally I watch videos like yours in order to pick up maintenance tips, I want to learn what can go wrong mechanically so I can be better prepared, and the only criticism I have of your series of videos is I find that while you often describe symptoms of problems (such as coolant in the bilge), and their diagnosis and make educated guesses as to root causes, you don't always subsequently describe exactly what you determined to be the root causes and how you fixed them. No biggee. I'm looking forward to watching the rest of the series. My wife and I are avid sailors, we currently own 4 different boats (the Hobie 16, an Albacore, a small keelboat, and 2 Lasers), in March 2017 we rented a 43 foot Beneteau and sailed from St. Vincent to Grenada and back, I expect you're going to stop in many of the same places as you go south. Cheers!

      I took a hard look at our St. Lucia sailing videos, no luck. No surprise, generally speaking, when we recording, we were doing high-speed reaches, out where the entrance to Rodney Bay opens to the sea. There were only a couple of bigger boats anchored out there. If I scan those videos for in-shore boats, which are quite a long way off, I can see a couple of anchored ketch-rigged boats in the background, but when I look really carefully, I dont think any of them are Bora Bora... There were two boats that got me excited for a couple of minutes, but after careful comparison eventually I had to say nope, wrong boat. I'm now watching your video when you arrive in Grenada. We sailed the Beneteau to Union Island, but we docked right in the town at the little yacht club they have there, had to back into the dock, which was the first time I'd ever done it. Wasn't my best moment. We're going to Grenada in December, I'm interested in picking up some tourist tips. Thanks!

    Can you describe the smells from the land, when you approach from the sea ? Ta. Another sailor described the smell of San Francisco from 600 miles out as "merde".

    Get some sort of stickers to put on the dinghy's outboard, to break the color up a little, and maybe it wont be so overly bright.. lol..

    I found some of the 'live' audio difficult to catch. Lots of wind noise and echos off hard surfaces when inside. Maybe look into better microphones or better arrangements for the ones you have.

    • @sailingsvborabora8712
      @sailingsvborabora8712  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      ron ross unfortunately we could only afford to buy a very cheap and basic camera, so there's no way of attaching an external mic, it's a shame as a lot of otherwise good footage is unusable

    • @tossed_about
      @tossed_about 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, it's a bit of a 'catch-22'. The top sailing channels have such good video quality these days it makes it hard to build the patreon following necessary to buy good equipment. Good luck though, I'm sure you'll get there. You could try using more 'voice-over' when editing rather than leave terrible original audio on an episode.

    I went to St. Lucia back in the early 2000's and it was great, the fact that you guys didn't film any interaction with the Island and Islanders must mean that it has become really dangerous there... that's kind of sad.

    Prophesy and Mic Jagger. Wouldn't Prophesy have something to do with Stephan Kings books? How about, "The Stand." Or "High-way To Hell." Or how about this Icon I use from the Bible Track called, "Last Generation." How do you think Radio Disc-jockey's play into this. Or how about Policeman with Star's on their chest and the term, Universe?
