Bringing AI and machine learning innovations to healthcare (Google I/O '18)

Could machine learning give new insights into diseases, widen access to healthcare, and even lead to new scientific discoveries? Already we can see how machine learning can increase the accuracy of diagnoses from medical imaging, and may be able to predict a patients risk of disease. This Keynote Session includes short talks by Lily Peng of Google Brain and Jessica Mega of Verily (Alphabet) about how they are bringing technological innovations in AI and machine learning to healthcare.

Really like Verily's ambitious goals for its clinical programs. Data is key here in moving people to action in making informed decisions about their health and moving them to action. It'll be interesting as we start getting this "under the hood" glimpse of what's happening in our own bodies and how the seemingly insignificant decisions we make every day are impacting our biology in the long-run!

Second time watching it. “You can train very algorithm without explicitly writing rules...leading to new discoveries.” The significance is far beyond prediction. Why don't you run a sugar tests in india, in regular primary healthcare settings under regular screenings, and treat diabetes before DR appears? It's not a problem of shortagr in eye doctors then, but a problem of diabetic screening!

Diabetes is genetic and via lifestyle, it's really hard to prevent

T1D is genetic whereas T2D is completely lifestyle driven. India has seen a large increase in T2D due to western diet influences.
