The best sporting moment in the world is coming! In a few days, the World Cup begins. The FIFA World Cup has been held since 1930. Brazil is the only country in the world to participate in all its editions. This is a source of pride for all of us Brazilians.
How about finding out how the ball used in games is made? Adidas has been its official supplier since 1970.
Starting with your main raw material. In the past, they were made with animal-derived leather. Nowadays they use synthetic leather, which guarantees greater durability and control.
The leather is delivered in the form of coils to the ball factory.
Synthetic leather is stretched AND cut into a pentagonal shape.
The seamstress joins the pieces with thread.
After checking the weight, the operator places the rubber balloon inside. The ball is stuffed into the mold so that it is perfectly round.
The varnish jet is passed and the ball is heated for drying.
The inner layer is also made of a synthetic material. The machine cuts the board according to the programmed design. The layer plates undergo a treatment on their entire surface.
The cover plates go through the printing machines, where the art is printed.
The technician checks that the prints are perfect using high definition cameras.
Some holes are drilled so that the cover fits with the mold. It is pressed by a heated mold, giving it its spherical shape.
The layer is then accommodated on the cover.
They go through a system to be merged. Finally, the cut is made, giving the finishing of each section.
Some details of the art are done individually on each section of the World Cup ball.
The buds are assembled giving their shape.
Nearing the end, the ball made at the beginning is placed in the mold, with the covers on the bottom and on top. This process is known as thermofusion. Once again the ball goes through another warm-up.
Finally, they are filled with air at the given pressure.
