It's remarkable how much PTBO of 87 still looks like the PTBO of 2020. Especially downtown. Still looks, minus a couple of buildings and businesses while adding or refurbishing a couple of buildings and businesses...
Oh Man! I moved from Peterborough to Detroit 24 years ago, I was 4 at the time of this video. I’ve been reliving nostalgic memories lately and can’t believe I stumbled across your video! This is so awesome thankyou.
As Im an international student who lives here in the heart of Peterborough in 2020, i pass my love and respect to the society who builds this and to those who lives here. I love Peterborough ❤️
Thank-you so much for posting this! It was a blast seeing how my home town looked years before I was born. I'm sure my whole family will love this when i show them :-)
This is a great video, thank you! I was 14 when this was filmed and grew up in Ptbo. I remember all of this fondly! I was especially paying close attention when driving down George St. because at 14yrs old there was a good chance I was either at Mr. Arcade, Ptbo. Square, or Papa Billiards! lol
Television Road, driving south, begins the road trip, but the following segments, until about the seven and a half minute mark, may have continued south... not sure. I picked it up again when moving north on Ashburnham (now much wider an smoother), then through the Lift Locks tunnel and East City. Yes, I too noticed the Red Oak Inn and Eaton's... also the Paramount Theatre and Canadian Tire. The spin around the City Hall block provided two views of the now demolished St. Paul's church. This is a pretty good video considering that the camera must have been an early tape machine, possibly without image stabilization.
This put me in tears to see how Peterborough look like in the 1980s I really wish I saw my house at Wallace point road but Peterborough is my town and it will forever be my home
Lived in Peterborough from 86 to 90...then back in 2013 to now. Ya basically the same. Omg I think I saw a Gord Hunt Plow truck! I worked for them recently. Holiday Inn too!
Absolutely love it thank you so much for posting let's drive down memory lane. I could have seen myself doing that maybe I should have love the video but can't believe they didn't hit Lansdowne Street
you missed a vast area of Peterborough. Lansdowne up near west end near SSFC and Beyond Sherbrooke and Jackson Park areas... Someone should do that now, with their cell Phone so that another 30 years goes by, it was done right!
My dad always does that sometimes it scares the shit out of me because sometimes I forget he's doing it and oh my gosh this brings back so many memories looking at this video
thanks for the share...for all the times I had driven to and through... Eaton's had died, but Harvey's lives on LOL. There were the drives through Landsdown and then drives to the armoury, as well as trips to the University..... What seems to be a blank space by the river heading towards Trent U is now a zoo/water play area/park
Wow, March 31, 1987 there was actually still snow on the ground in Peterborough. It was once a great place to grow-up, with a vibrant industrial complex and Peterborough Square had mostly big name chain-stores that were all open. It had two hospitals, a thriving downtown and a booming homegrown Arts and Music community. Peterborough always elected socialist city councils and seldom ventured away from liberal or ndp politics. Going into the 21st century it was only a matter of time for the rot to set-in. Great video Auscan, do you have anymore of Peterborough from back in the day?
wow not much has changed since the late 80s on the keene road, 4:36 the lad that runs that farm now use to help us in our barn at the end of the road on the keene road when i was 5-6 years old in the early 2000's
I noticed The Petes were playing The 67's on a Thursday in 1987. So I did some research and found out that the time this video was recorded may have been during the OHL Division semi-finals, in early April. PTBO played Ottawa in town on Thurs April 2nd (Petes win 5-2) and the 9th (Petes win 4-2)...Peterborough won their series 4-2...
My dad worked just past where he turned off under the lift-lock. We didn't have much with 5 kids. The family just north of Beckers Milk had like 10 or 12 kids and my dad always found a way to get them milk butter bread. McConkys rings a bell. Opps a hole in the lid or damaged packaging. Dad tried to help them as best he could with mom and us 5 at home. He did odd jobs. He didn't come home for supper one nite and he was found beside the hay baler and it must have grabbed some loose clothing and pulled him in. Dad was very upset for quite some time and lost a good friend.
this is incredible, I ive lived in Peterborough for 4 years, I was born in Oshawa, still lived there at that year as a matter of fact, grew up in the Northumberland County
the paranount the canadian tire and the awning over the North entrance walkway of the downtown mall blew me away. and the whistle stop was under goin construction. it was an arcade by 1990 the year i came to Ptb.
I watched the whole video praying you'd drive by my grandmother's old home.....life was good then, .......just before the town went to shit a few years later.
You getting a ♥️was probably accidentally!... Simple solution, if it hasn’t happened already, you moving out would contribute to people knowing that Peterborough is a great place to live! 😜
@@jacoblounsbury1686 "The more things change, the more they stay the same." Peterborough as we can see in 30 years really hasn't changed a lot. You might be paying attention to the negative aspects of our city too much as Peterborough is a pretty decent place to live.
IAM KWEST maybe I still love this place I’m trying to say is Peterborough is getting different over the years I live in Peterborough over 20 year ago grow up here
I lived in Peterborough from 81 off and on till 2016 thanks for this! Awesomeness
