    For the experiences/rewards section of phorcas is it just copying and pasting our CV's?

      somewhat! I pretty much just reworded my CV in PhORCAS to be paragraph format, rather than bullet points

    Hi Katie,
    When requesting your transcripts in PhORCAS is there a specific purpose for transcript to choose that is better than the others? In the drop down button it says for employment, graduate admissions, grant or fellowships, admission, scholarship, etc.. I am applying for a PGY-1, thank you!

      hey sydney! hmm I don’t remember choosing one of these options last year. I think the closest would be employment though? also, good luck with the application process and let me know if you have any other questions :)

    Hey! Did you put APPEs on your Phorcas or just left that on your CV? I have been hearing some mixed things but am leaning on not putting them on there? TIA!

      hey! I didn’t put my APPEs on PhORCAS- just on my CV :)

    Silly question, but PhORCAS saves your work as you go correct? I logged back in today after registering yesterday and had to re enter some things until it said it needed to request a copy of portions from a previous application into my current one. All the information I previously put it reappeared after that but I’m worried it’ll happen again especially now that I’ve put in my evaluators. Maybe it was just a glitch thing? It was loading very slow.

      huh that is weird, and definitely a valid question! there is a continue button in the bottom right that I would recommend clicking just in case, but I’ve never had any issues with things not saving. I’m thinking it may have been a glitch with it loading very slowly, but it’s hard to be sure. it’s interesting that it requested to copy portions of your previous application- are you a PGY1 or PGY2 applicant?

    Hi,
    Thanks for all the great info you are recording along your pharmd journey. I am currently doing prerequisites for the pharmacy school and there is a lot of unknown so watching through your videos helps. If I understand this correctly- you finish the 4 years of school, pass the test both law and regular exams, get licensed and then you need to do the pgy1 residency? Or is it the 3rd year of school? Also - there are fees to apply for residency but it’s like a job, right? You do get hired for residency and get paid, it’s not volunteering ?

      hey there! since I was in an accelerated program, you’ll see from my videos that my timeline was a little different. most pharmacy schools are 4 years, but some (like mine) are 3-year schools. but generally speaking, the last year of school is when you do your rotations (either called P3 or P4 year). this is where you’ll get pharmacy practice experience (and is required to graduate), but you will not get paid (you’ll still pay tuition). residency and licensure exams are things you do after graduation (residency is optional). it depends on what your goals are, but you could either get a job or complete a PGY1 after graduation. there are fees to apply for residency, and I note the financial cost of the process at around 15:28 in the video (though this isn’t including travel/hotel if you get an in-person interview). but yes, in residency, you do get paid! it’s definitely less than you would get as a pharmacist, but still much better than paying to work haha - the experiences you get in residency are so valuable so I would recommend looking into it when the time comes! but if you haven’t seen it already, I do have a “College/University” playlist that has some videos that may be helpful for you :)

    Do LOR's have to be submitted by programme leads or people who have managed you In a pharmacy job or work experience capacity?

    • @Katie_Lee
      @Katie_Lee  หลายเดือนก่อน

      I would highly recommend it, but there’s technically no rule against getting LORs from non-pharmacy people (unless the specific program explicitly states they want certain letters from a certain group of people). I do think work/rotation experience would best best to highlight your skills, but maybe you have something unique that may help you out🤷‍♀️ what type of PGY1 are you thinking of applying to and who are you thinking of getting your letters from?

      @Katie_Lee i graduated in the UK and have been a hospital Pharmacist for 5 years prior to moving here, so I was looking for LOR's from senior pharmacists who i have worked alongside and shadowed during my short career so far

      I'm looking to apply to a PGY1 hospital Pharmacy residency:)

      with thinking of applying to a PGY1 hospital residency, I think it would be a great idea to get LORs from the hospital pharmacists you have worked with! they’d be able to advocate for your clinical skills, work ethic, timeliness, etc - and it would be quite relevant to the residency programs since it’s in a similar work setting. to me at least, it sounds like you have a pretty good plan :)

    Hello, thanks for this insightful video. do you have any recommendations for Foreign Pharmacy Graduates? I already got my pharmacist License but my program was a Bachelor in Clinical Pharmacy and graduates 2020, and not PharmD. Do you have any insights if the acceptance chances are good or any tips/advice in that regards? Thank you so much

      hello! from my understanding, you would need to obtain certification from the “Foreign Pharmacy Graduate Examination Committee” (FPGEC) if you haven’t already. I’m honestly not super familiar with the foreign grad requirements, but I would double check the program’s application requirements on their website to see if you’re eligible to apply. if there’s any doubt/questions, I would recommend emailing the RPD to let them know you’re interested in their program, tell them about your background, and clarify eligibility. I’m sorry I couldn’t be more specific but I hope that helps :)

    Stay away from retail & long-term care pharmacies...they take advantage of pharmacists and you end up doing the work of 3-4 people with management always on you for every little thing...I would recommend if you choose to stay in pharmacy...Oncology or working graveyard at a hospital...those are the easier shifts and pay the most money...😁👍

    • @Katie_Lee
      @Katie_Lee  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      retail and long term care aren’t my cup of tea, so I will personally not be doing those areas. I really wanted to do a PGY1 to get hospital experience right off the bat after graduation, and I’ve really enjoyed the experience so far! without it, it’s definitely more difficult to land a hospital job and I’ve seen people go into retail instead (whether they want to or not). it’s unfortunate but quite competitive :/
