I remember when I discovered the roots in 94 from the distortion to static video on rapcity here in Canada. It changed my world forever. So sad to hear of Malik B’s passing. RIP.
Along with the release of 36 chambers in 93, The Roots represent a a massive shift and change in golden era hip hop, ever changing it for the better incorporating live instruments into their shows and making it ILL!! Easily the best live hip hop group I've ever seen live, I'm forever in debt to them and to what they've given the genre of music that I live and breathe. Hip hop loves you Legendary Roots Crew!! If you're down, say word!
Wow, watching there stuff from this time, really makes me wonder on what level Malik B would be on now, had he not gone down the unfortunate path that tempted him....but still, the roots are the greatest hip hop group ever, and the fact that their music gives you something different with every new release its not surprising that just about every artist who has a clue about REAL music has or wants to work with them. They're just unbelievable. Its a shame only 4,906 views....niggas are sleeping!
Really dope, underrated rappers! This is the original Roots sound. Some years ago, i attended a concert where they only played uptempo music with trombone and shit...... i was so disappointed
So so true this era was their best. I'm so sad I didn't get to see them perform at that time. After Things fall apart, I wasn't really interested in their music anymore. Black thought is still top 10 though.
Because it's about social engineering & dumbing down the audience by pushing inferior talent & negative messages. Believe it or not Hip-Hop was on it's decline around this time. 90s Hip-Hop groups like The Roots the genre alive for as long as they could.....
I think he got addictied to codeine and prescription pills. If you listen to "Water" off their album Phrenology, Black thought goes into some depth of the relationship between himself and Malik B and his drug addiction.
Classic footage Rest in Peace Malik
Proceed has to be one of my fav' song ever.
