I'll tell you what happened to music and producers. Our families started to separate from the church, which is where many singers learned and trained their voices and musicianship. Secondly, music programs in public schools suffered from deeper and deeper budget cuts.
That's what made way for the quality of popular music to go down.

As a long time soul and r&b fanatic (mainly 1930s to early 1980s - yes - the 1930s!) I am loving your reactions. It is a joy to see someone discover these greats - in that way, I envy you. I share your love for Maze, too. And you nailed it: Production is key - it is everything. And sadly - a lost art since the mid-80s. My thanks for making an old dude smile. 😊

Not only do the other reactors need to learn from you how the true, heartfelt assessments are properly done, but some of them really need to study your level of maturity and sincerity. Most of them are a little too slapstick and immature for me to follow, but U are the Man! Plus U show us Big Love, and respect. (Meaning we old schoolers).

Close the Door was the ladykiller back in the day. They even had regular t.v. commercial for that one. I was workin a summer job for N.Y. Urban League, & discussion of that commercial came up among the ladies. They were all like, ‘Oh my goodness I jus be like, close the door!’ 😂😂🤣. There’s another one that starts with, ‘Turn Out theLights, & light a candle..... Would have to say that one is pretty smooth. He also had an upbeat collab with Stephanie Mills, & one called, Joy, which was recorded after his accident, when he was wheelchair bound.

Back in the day, nothing was rushed! artists, would wait up to five years between albums, if they didn't feel the material was ready! Now a days, it's all about "dropping" and mass producing.... and you can hear the lack of quality, in the production, every time! God Bless!

Teddy Pendergrass is one of the greats. I have all his songs on Vimal, CD,. Cassette Tapes. My latest and greatest is one of my favorites. The Whole Town's Laughing At Me". And many more. When I was about 12 years old my mother went to see Teddy Pendergrass in concert. My mother said " women were throwing panties on stage". His music makes feel like there's hope that a man will come in my life and feel all the things he says in his songs. It gives you hope that that kind of love and sincerity from a man will come in your life.
