Batman: Arkham Shadow is an action-adventure video game played from a first-person perspective. In the game, the player assumes control of Batman who must stop a new villain called the Rat King from unleashing chaos in the city. The rhythmic, free-flow combat from the previous games returns in Shadow, allowing Batman to attack, stun and counter. Combining these three main abilities can keep Batman attacking while moving between enemies and avoiding being attacked himself. The stealth predator sections are also back. Batman can activate Detective Vision to identify the locations and the patrol patterns of all enemies in an area, and stealth tactics such as silent takedowns, inverted takedowns and hiding in grates can be used against armed enemies. He also has a large arsenal of tools, such as smoke bombs and batarangs to aid combat. The game's structure is similar to that of Batman: Arkham Asylum (2009), in which Batman explores a series of large but confined spaces. Batman can glide from heights using his cape, and use his grapple gun to climb onto higher ledges. As players progress, they will gain new gadgets and tools, enabling them to open up new paths to reach previously inaccessible areas.
This game surprised the hell out of me. A genuinely great story that holds up with the other Arkham games and the gameplay is way more than I expected. Really feels like the freeflow combat but in first person 2:47:45 Harleen really didn't want to give you her access card 😂😂😂
Just like comics Batman learned from criminal Joe who killed his parents. Look what he says we all have a choice kid. And then seeing Harvey go through what he went through all because couldn’t control emotions. This how Batman became more sympathetic and controlled because before than he was always quick to be agitated or aggressive
Judging by the voice casting, Barbara walking, and Harvey's origin revealed, I deduce that this game's events take place between Origins and Asylum. I must say having Shrike, Ratcatcher, Ventriloquist, Bronze Tiger, and Carmine "The Roman" Falcone appear is pretty cool, plus lead-ups to Harley Quinn and Scarecrow. By the way, the password "Louisa", that's Catwoman's mother's name if you know Long Halloween. I still can't even begin to describe how I felt seeing Joe Chill like this. In most stories, Bruce never gets to meet the man who turned his life into a constant war.
Bruce actually has met and interacted with Joe Chill in a number of stories. During the Darkseid War event in the comics he flat out visited him in prison.
It's a genuine surprise how good this game was, though I should have expected it from the team behind Iron Man VR. An interesting and tragic look into the friendship of Bruce and Harvey, along with the tragedies which would lead Dent to becoming the notorious Two-Face. Now i'm just angry we didn't get nearly the same level of quality storytelling from Rocksteady's own Suicide Squad.
Funnily enough this feels like a way better and more thought out 'who done it' story than Arkham Knight in my opinion. It feels so refreshing to have a Batman game where Batman is being a detective, and then having us put together everything with him through the genuinely tragic story of Bruce and Harvey. It makes everything feel so much more natural when at the heart of the story we see his slow descent into Two Face, but just like Bruce never truly put it together until it's way too late.
@@Zeromaru42 Batman's best stories from the comics tend to always be when we see him use his detective skills in action. Some writers tend to focus too much on the action and drama parts of his career, which aren't bad per se but it can feel like writers don't want to focus on him being a detective at all.
@@jjb2385probably wouldn’t say ‘villian’ More ‘misguided youth’. The end credits does have a conversation between Bruce and Leslie where Dick gets picked up by a kids care home and Bruce seeks him out
True, but glad they brought Troy baker on in Origins just in case they decided to make one in between. Made things less awkward if they brought in another voice actor.
Bringing in the character of Chris Nakano like this, very clever! That explains the eyepatch the character has: Nakano wears one too in comics. In the comics, Chris Nakano was a GCPD officer who lost an eye in a traumatic incident and blamed Batman for it. After becoming Gotham's mayor (hating masked heroes and villains alike) and going through more adventures, he at Batman ended up on the same side.
My ONLY gripe with this is the courtroom scene, specifically everyone's reaction to Harvey's "rebirth".... everyone just stands up in silence and stares as he is in agony. Jim is literally looking at his face melt just staring reactionless, like more horror or emotion of any kind
Would've loved a post credit scene wrapping up Bruce and Joe chills story arc, something reminiscent to Batman's:Three Jokers #3, a scene where Bruce consoles a dieing Joe chill on his death bed, Joe finally gaining the courage to give Bruce the letter he wished he sent to express how much he truly regretted that choice and Bruce facing the most difficult challenge in his life, forgiving man who killed his parents as he reads the letter while consoling Joe to his final breath.
Really hoping this game gets a non VR release because it looks awesome, and the story was surprisingly amazing and fits with the rest of the series really well! Also I wonder if Joe accepts gold pressed latinum (IYKYK)
@@MPARASKA am I the only one that felt severe and let down by that? Like, it was kind of lame when Arkham Knight did it that sort of understandable. Now it turns out the rat king is just a temporary pasted over alias from another Batman villain. I would’ve much preferred it if the rat king drove into a rage that ended with him deciding to take on the monitor of two face, just like the dark Knight movie. Also, Batman, being directly responsible for Harvey’s accident just pisses me off. Even if it is an accident.

Harleen was such a sweet psychiatrist. Too bad she became a villainess after that. If she hadn’t have met the joker, she probably would’ve successfully helped rehabilitate other prisoners.
I am only 1:30hs into the video and I just realized why they never addressed Joe by his surname 💀I thought "Chill" had already be caught at this point, waiting for when Bruce realizes who's he talking to... Well look who we have here. CO Branden. Former SWAT officer. CO Boles. Future Arkham guard. And now here they are as Tyger guards personell. So this is how their story goes on. I knew that Branden might have joined them because he fit in to they're ranks and behaviour. But officer Boles? Really? I never believe that he was a part of the Tyger force. I wonder how long he was working for them.
Would have been cool to include cameos from Garfield Lynn's, Floyd Lawton, Anarky showing them here after Origins. Maybe Floyd was recruited with Slade, but Lynn's would have been a cool cameo, nice to see we get Bird
Personally I’m giving this game (from cutscenes alone) a solid 7/10. The story was pretty good and the reveal at the end was definitely a surprise. That being said my biggest complaint is the handling of Harley Quinn. There seems to be a lot of praising of her character in this film, despite a scene where it’s clear she’s unhinged and presumably dangerous. I don’t know if it’s due to how much of the character we’ve gotten as of recently but I found it very irritating how much Bruce and Alfred talked about how wonderful she is and how she’s such a misunderstood soul. Another issue I had was the court scene where Harvey becomes two face. Don’t know if I just prefer other versions but something about Bruce doing it ( accidentally) felt kinda odd. Even the telltale game where you can argue it’s Bruce fault, he wasn’t the one to do it but it was a result of him trying to protect everyone on his own. With all that said I still enjoyed it.
2:46:04 after hearing this dialogue, it’s crazy thinking that canonically in this Universe she’s the one who will fight aliens and kills the Batman. What a joke .
She may have pulled the trigger on him but it's not like she literally beat him by herself, she had the world's greatest marksman, a literal demi-god shark man, and well....a guy who's good with boomerangs.
Malone is the surname of one Bruce's criminal cover identities: the alias is Matches Malone. There's a story where he gets amnesia and had to piece everything back together but had to come up with a name for himself. He'd eventually use the alias with accompanying disguises wheneve he does street recon. He even made sure his cover was watertight so he did some petty crimes to make a name for himself.
It's almost funny that Batman just kinda shows up in the prison over the course of consecutive days. That must seem weird to the prisoners. "Hey, Joey, remember that time Batman was here for, like, a week?"
This game was actually really good - the story was as good as I'd expect, but the gameplay was far more watchable than I would have thought. Most VR games I've seen just seemed off - Horizon's VR one I couldn't watch, those diembodied hands were just too offputting. But the player having full arms and legs helped a lot! 🐧
Kinda crazy to think Crane was actually experimenting on patients in that back room of BlackGate for god only knows how long & it’s pretty much equivalent to what one of the tapes depict in Asylum where he was pretty much following the same routine but was eventually caught out after dosing a guard named “Mike”
This game spends a lot of time praising Harley Quinn for her efforts for her to end up being a piece of shit that kills children in later games and comics
