I paid 850 pesos to Makati lol. I knew it was expensive, but just wanted to go to the hotel. It's a shame they do this is it leaves a poor perception for future travel.
It was three years ago the last time visited my homeland and it seems like there are some real changes in the International Airport in the arrival area. The parking area is not there anymore. Good planning that they put a walkway where taxi cabs can line up to take passengers. This is really a help to me since I just dont want to rely on somebody to pick me up in the airport but of course I just have to make my baggage lighter to carry. Yes take the meter taxi always. Thanks for the information it helps for me. Take care and god bless!
Had an incident with white taxi, he agreed to 300p to terminal 3. Once in cab and out of airport terminal was handed bit of paper with rates, now wanted 1000p. Argument ensured and I demanded to be let off. Could have ended bad. DONT get involved with negotiations with white taxi's Have used yellow taxi since and went without incident, however I felt the meter was ticking over a little fast. Paid 370p from terminal 2 to terminal 3
Ah thats great commentary, i have used a 450p flat rate taxi before, on my first visit in 2014 but i didn't know any better heh. (coincidentally i also stayed at the same red planet in makati, it was still tune hotel then) luckily since then i have made friends that will pick me up when in country. If you are still around in march maybe ill see you in town, im in legaspi but always walking makati..good vid and cheers.
+VicDubya Thanks. Yeah, for sure, having someone pick you up is the ideal! I'm sure I'll still be here in March unless I hit the lotto or something. LOL
Thank you Syl! There are many such taxis at almost every railway stations, airports and etc. in ex USSR. Drivers like these ones called "bombila" (transliteration from russian :)
Very nice video : -it allows to improve my English understanding, -it is useful for everyone who wants to go to Manilla. Did you know these useful tips before landing at Manilla ?
+Jean-Paul Guillois Not the first time. But I have traveled to SEA before so I knew to ALWAYS ask for a metered taxi, regardless. So the first time I got here and they jumped on me the moment I got out the door, I asked if they used a meter and they said no - that it was fixed fare. So I asked around for a metered taxi and that's how I found the yellow taxis.
Will you please tell me , do you tip 10% or 15 % of the fare ?I’ll be taking taxis all the time need to know how much percentage so I’m consistent on tipping .
I'll be in Phil in 3 weeks . And just found out my hotel doesn't offer shuttle service anymore . They have private ones that cost you about 60 dollars . So I'm planning to just get the yellow cab and give a proper tip. Now my problem would be going back to the airport , I would probably buy a simcard at the store and load to get a grab .. We will see🤪
EXCELLENT informative video! Thank you very much! I am going to the Manila Hotel. The hotel car service is 1,250P. Would it be cheaper to ride a yellow taxi? Last time I was in Manila was 1984, so I am waaaaay out of date. Thanks!
They got me the first time around also. The next visit, I literally purchased a SIM card first and called a 'GRAB' on my app. I might have paid more for a SIM card, I'm not sure really. But I didn't get cheated on the taxi. Now I know, just turn right and find the yellow cab instead.
I got a metered taxi from international to Berjaya hotel. Took well over an hour. 210 pesos. I told him im a cabbie in Australia.. that would've cost 3...4000 pesos. I gave him a 100p tip. Now i know it wasn't enough. I feel cheap. But next time .. i will at least double the fare for him.
Yes, in the beginning of the video, you can see mini-van taxis. They are expensive to use if you don't have much luggage but if you have a lot of luggage then maybe it's worth it.
Yes, it's usually the best option. For more videos of the Philippines, Japan, Vietnam and other countries, check out my new travel channel! th-cam.com/channels/AxIQBhf9QGgZ8ykm5298dg.html
Hi, You said that was a 30 minutes ride? Can it be shorter? (now with the expressway?) We have to go from terminal 1 to terminal 3 very quickly, so how long do you think it will take by yellow taxi, in december on a saturday at 1.00-2.00 pm? how is the traffic? thanks
Sorry, I really don't know enough about Manila traffic patterns to answer. I just know how long it took me the few times I took taxis from the airport to Makati.
I will be taking a trip that is 80km to my hotel from the Manila airport. According to the maps, with traffic, We will say roughly 2 hours and 30 minutes. How much would that run?
wow, that's a tough one. that's far so the driver gets no money coming back which means you are unlikely to get a cab to use the meter. i think if you find a cabbie who is doing nothing with his day you should be able to negotiate a ride for 3000 pesos or less. This is purely a wild guess tho! I'm just basing it off a hunch and my experience with taxis in the PH.
Totally agree on the tipping. I usually add an average of 50 pesos or a dollar. They'll be very thankful... Or NOT! Depending on your luck, you can sometimes get a taxi driver from hell in Manila. And quite often. Thank God for Uber. Although these yellow taxis have better reputation than the regular white ones.
+Andrew Christiansen Yeah, I agree. Some of these taxi drivers are quite nice and just doing their jobs to put food on the table while others can be really rude. If they're rude, they don't get a tip. That simple. That said, I now use Uber whenever I can because I've never had a rude Uber driver and the cars are almost always nicer. And they don't drive like jerks.
420p using the meter sounds expensive. However, the last time I was there, the price of taxis had gone up a bit because now the price goes up by time in addition to distance traveled. Still, 420 sounds too high to Buendia...
dont ride a yellow cab when you pick up on ur hotel going to airport is to expensive its better use a uber or white cab its more cheaper than yellw cab.
I always use Uber now. So much better than taxis. It's a shame because I know there are a lot of good hard-working taxi drivers in Manila, but there are also unfortunately a lot of jerks that won't give you a ride after you tell them where you want to go or will fight with you by asking for an extra 50p over the meter charge, etc. The rotten apples spoil the whole bushel. I have never had a problem with Uber in Manila though. It's almost always easy to get one, they are ALWAYS friendly and polite, you of course never get hassled for more money, you don't have to waste 20 minutes hailing, and it's automatically billed to your credit card. Taxi companies are going to have to change drastically or die out. But I do feel bad for the good guys in cabs that will have to suffer because of this.
+andrey sergeev What do I keep in my mouth? Tongue and teeth, mostly. :-P Yes, it's a little fast in some parts - certainly faster than my other videos - but that's OK. It's good to challenge yourself sometimes even if you don't understand 100% of it!
Slow Easy English OK, you are in your rights. But it was too uncomfortable for me. When I'll understand such fast speech I be listening to the radio. Sorry for my gram. )
+andrey sergeev Thanks for your feedback Andrey. If this video was too fast for you and you felt uncomfortable, there are hundreds more videos on my channel that you could watch where I speak more slowly and clearly. :)

Yellow metered taxis are a ripoff too! 3 times more expensive! Walk a bit farther to catch the white metered taxis!
Great presentation, have not been to PI for many years and this info was great, thank you.
thanks for letting us know about the taxi charges in the philippines...

Thank you for this vid. As a Filipino i am quite aware of the scammers there. Such a shame. Is that terminal 1?
Thanks! You are right the Metered Yellow Taxis are the best White vans or SUV's are bad (Private taxis)
great tips! thank you, that's what I gonna do thanks lot, very smart👍

manila hotel is one of the best in Ermita......pay no more than 500 pesos (10 dollars) from T 1 or T2.
I got done 1500 1.5 km they grab your bag put it in the taxi make sure don't let them touch your bag
They got me the first time around also. The next visit, I literally purchased a SIM card first and called a 'GRAB' on my app. I might have paid more for a SIM card, I'm not sure really. But I didn't get cheated on the taxi. Now I know, just turn right and find the yellow cab instead.
Seems like they've changed things. I was there a month ago and the only thing I saw available was a grab stand.

2 yrs ago i take the yellow taxi and cost me 2,500 php. Naia to pasig. Its a damn expensive.

Hi, is there a bigger vehicle for the yellow metered taxi? I dont think our luggages will fit in a car
Yes, in the beginning of the video, you can see mini-van taxis. They are expensive to use if you don't have much luggage but if you have a lot of luggage then maybe it's worth it.
【 Grab Taxi 】Must use Taxi booking service @ Manila, Cebu, Bali, Singapore etc... in Southeast Asia (2;08)

From terminal 1 to terminal 3… you use white taxi. Cost $ 200 - $250 PPS. The bus cheaper but 30’ wait.
What terminal,is this?
What about grab are they cheaper

Don Barcley Tanglao said the uber driver 😂
You are lucky you got the good driver because not all of them are honest. Believe me!
Most aren't. There is the white skin tax.
$4 bucks ? Man that’s a steal!!just sitting in a cab in America is gonna cost $4 bucks
just use grab
Or use Uber.
Ok if one day, I go to Manila then again will watch this..and yes taxi drivers every where trying to cheat people who don't know
Get a metered taxi only.
Only get a yellow airport taxi, the bad thing is its only route is from and to the airport.
Ok.. so what terminal did you arrive at? International looks way different coming outside. Not a helpful video.
The Batingting scam of Airport Taxis
must simpler walk outside n get a jeep lol
With all your first world valuables? Right....
