    Good tips. I also think it's good to check with a native Chinese speaker (preferably around your age or from the same generation?) about your name. My first Chinese teacher (not a native speaker, but a professor with a PhD in Chinese Literature) gave me a name with 翠 in it, and I had peers in China tell me that my name sounded a bit like an old lady name because this character isn't often used in names anymore. I imagine it's the equivalent of picking the name Henrietta or Gertrude...to be honest I don't mind it too much because I think it's a cool character and my habits are more like those of an old person anyway 😂

      yea 翠 is definitely not used in names anymore nowadays. Its like the equivalent of Barbra or Dolly, something along the lines of that. You'll find old ladies with names with that character but younger girls will not have names like that

    I've been learning Mandarin since 2017 and I still don't have one. I guess the best tip I'll take out of this is that I shouldn't be afraid and just ask my friend to help me out :D

    I just pick whatever sounds good, elegant, and poetic. I have stuff like 凤明,炎成,星摇,宣乐,etc

    I asked my Chinese teacher to give me one. My advice is have a Chinese person or teacher give you one. If you don't like it, have them give you another one until you get one you like. Mine is 魏桥森 because 乔森 is like my name Jonathan

    I first chose the surname 洪 as it’s close my last name and I would like 龙 as I was born in year of dragon but I don’t want to copy Bruce Lee, how about 圣龙 or 道龙 or 祖龙 ? Which might pair best with 洪 ?

    有一些汉学家会根据自己姓名的音译稍加修改变成很酷的名字,比如Pulleyblank蒲立本,Halliday韩礼德,Fairbank - John King 费正清,又有寓意又保持了自己本名,算是直接音译的进阶版啦~

    I heard 王梓林 is just a normal name, is it ok to use?

    • @bellsctiz7120
      @bellsctiz7120 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      lol one of the definition of 梓 is "落叶乔木。木材可供建筑及制造器物之用:梓器(棺材)。梓宫(皇帝的棺材)。" Basically it means like coffin??? Might want to reconsider hahaha, but the word also has other positive meanings, and also some people do have it in their names, so it should be fine :))) Just pointing out, but ultimately depends on what you feel :D
      On a side note, the tones of the 3 words you chose, are quite matching and sounds great for a name (as compared to eg. 3 words with the same tones, which sounds weird)

      It is a normal and good name. Don't worry. Many Chinese have 梓 in their name. It means also "home", "homeland"

      挺不错的, “书” 让人联想到“知书达理” “博古通今”,很文雅的感觉;“洋” 让人联想到“ 幸福洋溢” “汪洋大海”,有一种积极向上、胸怀广阔的感觉;“书洋”两个字让我想到 “徜徉书海”,知识广博颇有 “洋洋洒洒” 之风
