    Tony Knowles v Ray Reardon
    This footage captures the exciting conclusion of a classic match up of youth and experience between Tony Knowles and Ray Reardon in the second round of the 1983 World Championship. Both men were amongst the favourites for that years title having won the preceding two ranking tournaments and their highly anticipated encounter did not disappoint.
    Fondly remembered as snookers very own Casanova from the games heyday in the 1980's, Tony Knowles was also one of the most fluent and stylish players of his era as this collection of archive footage highlights. If you have any Knowelsy footage or memorabilia to trade or even if you'd just like to share your very own TK memories then please get in touch.

    Reardon was giving Knowles over 25 years here. What a truly great player Reardon was. Him and Hendry the greatest under pressure I've ever seen.

    Grew up with this stuff, would rather watch you tube classic matches all day than 5 mins of today's automatons

      For tactical know-how and temperament, Ray was the best ever. I always loved to watch him play. He also talks the most sense about the game and I surprised he has never commentated for the BBC.

    i remember watching this final session on TV (Reardon was my favourite player from this era) - It was very high quality - In the deciding frame Knowles potted a brilliant log red from Reardon's break off shot and went on to make a big break which in effect won him the match - I was gutted when he was knocked out so early in the tournament because he had had a very good season

      Would love to get hold of more of this match. It was a rare one where Reardon scored heavier but still ended up losing and also a rare battling performance from Knowles to get over the winning line.

      Can' t help you there I'm afraid - we didn't have a video recorder in our house when I was a kid - its scary to think its nearly 40 years ago !!!- As I said in my first post Reardon was my fave player and though he was past his peak by then he was still a formidable player in the 80's before age and eyesight caught up with him - As regards Knowles - he was a very good player who probably didn't fulfill his potential - he should have achieved more with his talent than he did

      That about sums it up for TK and agree re Reardon too. He was the player of the season coming into that years World Champs and favoured by many to bag the title. Who knows what mighta happened if he'd beaten Knowles but the same could be said for Tony if he'd beaten Thorburn in the semis. Hard to imagine either of them would have gotten the better of Davis in that years final though.

    A great clip , Ray shows his class in fighting to hang on after the terrible bad luck.
    Never saw the match but I think he had 2 centuries, and likely played very well. Tony must have been too good on the day.

    Ray played probably better in '83 than the previous year when he reached the final. Knowles was in great form tho and should really have made the final.

    you can see why the miss rule was introduced at 5.22, reardon misses getting out of snooker and knowles left with a tricky shot

    Ah the days of the deliberate miss

  • @charliemagri1669
    @charliemagri1669 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    6:17. Reardon only just short of the perfect snooker and unfortunate for the brown not to go behind the pink and not leave a shot, but what a match winner from Knowles, considering that to miss would've left the balls spinning randomly around the table!

  • @johnmc3862
    @johnmc3862 ปีที่แล้ว

    See how much the pink rolled off, you wouldn’t see than on a modern table. Too me it looked much closer to the pocket than it ended up. 8:23

  • @charliemagri1669

    4:21. That shot could've only left the balls as they finished, but to have played off one cushion would've left the balls with more chance of going safe and without leaving such an easy snooker!

    Thorburn ruined 83 WC coz he beat Kirk with last 3 frames.. .and Tony in semi,and got hammered by Davis... Knowlesy would of been a better final.. .after beating the nugget 10-1 in 82.... best result ever in Snooker!

    • @johnmc3862
