    I just spent 6 days in Montenegro and returned 3 weeks ago and can actually share a lot of good things and a couple of bad ones..... I rented a car, which is recommended to fully enjoy places like Prokletije mountain...on a bad note, there are some hustlers...e.g. Perast bay in front of the Church on the lake.... they advertise free parking and once you park, they tty to charge you for an expensive tour.... watch out and instead drive all around the lake to the other side to Veriges 65 restaurant, which was our best rwstaurant... beleve me it's worth it ... we spent 3 hours there since it was great. Note 2 .... Podgorica is not worth more than 2 hrs. 3. Do spend a day visiting Piva Lake, Durmitor mountain and the beautiful bridge

    I've lived in Montenegro several times for months at a time. I was just there 3 weeks ago. I've never heard of or paid a "tourist tax," and I've been going to and from there since 2010. I've driven across multiple borders and flown dozens and dozens of times, and this is the first time I've ever heard of a tourist tax in Montenegro.

    • @seanpizzo8256
      @seanpizzo8256 ปีที่แล้ว

      Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying you're lying or anything. I'm just saying I've never heard about that or ever had an issue with not paying one. I actually met my wife while living in Montenegro. Her parents live in Andrijevica.

    • @BrianandCarrie
      @BrianandCarrie  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Interesting as we had to pay at both locations and our Airbnb host was very adamant to get this done soon as we arrived. I'm sure, as many things, you can skirt around rules without issue. But we just felt it's never worth that risk. Thanks for watching ☺️

      @@seanpizzo8256 well, there is a Tourist Tax in Montenegro (like almost everywhere), but i think, because relatives of property owners (parents-in-law) are excempt, they don´t bother you. And as a rule, most often registration is done not by the tourists themselves, but by the owners of the housing where they stay. This is also regulated by law. It states that all Montenegrin citizens who provide residential space for tourists on legal grounds must register their guests on their own and they have 12 hours to do so. Only if you arrive in Montenegro without a tour package and are not going to stay in an official hotel or hotel should register on their own. But if there was no Registration and Payment, they could fine € 200,- but it seems, the fines are not imposed on all and not always 😉😊

      @@BrianandCarrie If you ever travel again in Montenegro a locals advise is stay in Podgorica ( capital) main train and bus station and they are minutes apart and connect the entire country for day trips and staying in Podgorica is way cheaper then any other place if you rent over booking...also the visa tax we call 'white visa' is not a must just stick to booking.
      Hope this helped , thanks for the fair video about my home country.

    Thanks, Brian & Carrie. We plan to be in Budva in March-April-May; our first time. Montenegro looks better to us than the other non-Schengen countries. It's a good video, but you mention just Kotor and Budva, and there is much more to see. Of course, Kotor is a must for all tourists. At the coast, it is definitely worth visiting the old towns of Bar (which is also the biggest port in Montenegro) and Ulcinj. The old capital Cetinje is full of places to see. The north is beautiful, completely different from the south.

    Thank you for your insights. I truly enjoy watching this. I've arrived here for the fist time ever (Sutomore, near Bar) and cannot believe how much I love this small but great little gem. Stunning beaches and people, I must say. Everyone is so helpful. It's easy to get around although it is not peak season and they don't have as many buses. Everything got much more expensive since you've been here but it is still pretty good in comparison where I come from, Melbourne, Australia. I also had the tax shock upon my arrival as everywhere else it was automatic, including Croatia. In Herceg Novi the owners did it for me but in Budva, Podgorica, Ulcinj and Sutomore I had to do it myself. The worst thing was that I had to catch a bus to Bar and they wouldn't accept owner's details without 'List Nepokretosti', although he handed one before. They insisted that the owner sent it to me electronically. They wouldn't even look at me at the tourist centre Bar. The owner wasn't happy about it so after I waited for him (he was in Podgorica at the time and had to organise this at the same time), he wanted to speak to them on WhatsApp. They were nice suddenly but insisted. After one month the lady told me that I didn't need to register or pay tax any longer and that I could stay here for 90 days. After 90 days I could just leave for a few hours to Albania and come back and continue living here for another 90 days. I didn't trust what she said as I believe there are different rules for the Americans and Australians. It could be the rule for the Russians and similar. Thanks for posting your stuff again :)

    I've just found your channel and I'm starting to go through each episode from the beginning. Your travel style is very close to my wife's and mine, so I'm really enjoying your videos. Thank you for posting them. I have one piece of constructive criticism - I hope you don't mind. It would be nice if you used 2 or 3 different pieces of music in each video. Hearing the same track over and over for 15 minutes gets tiring. Otherwise, fantastic content and I look forward to continuing to follow your journey. Hi Ian. The prescription med question is a good one. We got extra contact lenses but other than that we don't have any prescription. We understand that if you have a prescription it's not difficult to get what you need in places like Spain or Western Europe where the health care system is very good. This is something we may research more moving forward.
      Getting cash is easy. We use Charles Schwab that reimburses all ATM fees at the end of each month. We usually take out enough cash to only take advantage of this one time each month. We also use Capital One Visa. You get the best exchange rate this way.

    Hi Jenny and Tom here. Did you get a Schengen Visa for EU countries? Do you recommend a Eurail Pass? We will be landing in Madrid November 3 2022 and starting what we hope will be 4 years of overseas travel. How do you access money from the states meaning meaning debit card?? We belong to a bank where there are no overseas transaction fees. What's the best way to access money?
    Have these videos is awesome thanks so much.
    Jenny and Tom

    • @BrianandCarrie
      @BrianandCarrie  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Jenny and Tom! Yes, we did have a 90 Schengen visa while we visited Spain. Now being in Montenegro, we are out of the Schengen zone and have to remain out for anohter 30 days before we can re-enter.
      We never did purchase a Eurail pass, we just purchased train tickets as we needed them. I only ever briefly looked into the pass, but with the small amount of transfers we would be doing it didn't seem cost effect. But for furture trips where would be moving around more, it may be a great option.
      As far as how we handle debit cards for cash withdrawals, we both use Fidelity and Charles Schwab. They both offer debit cards that reimburse your ATM withdrawal fees. We also each have credit cards that have no foreign transaction fees, Capital One Venture is a great option.
      Sounds like you both have a exciting adventure ahead :)
