Harlem Renaissance: 7 Artists you should know about.

The Harlem Renaissance is described as being the rejuvenation of African American Art, and is also credited for influencing African and Caribbean colonies who lived in France. Now, lets set the scene; It’s the 1920s and the first world war has just ended, America is currently experiencing an economic boom. This was also just before the great depression. Black consciousness was becoming more popular and more prominent.
The 7 artists we'll be looking at in this video are; Langston Hughes, Aaron Douglas, Lois Mailou Jones, Augusta Savage, Gwendolyn B. Bennett, Meta Vaux Warrick Fuller and James Van Der Zee.

That's true Langston Hughes was the leader of the Harlem Renaissance but nobody ever talks about the person who really was responsible for giving birth to the Harlem Renaissance. I'm talking about philosopher and educator Alain Locke. Who is the acknowledged dean of the Harlem Renaissance. His publication of the New Negro that started the Harlem Renaissance.

The Harlem Renaissance may have ended as a distinct chapter in history, but the cultural importance of African-Americans only increased, both at home and globally. That ‘movement’ continues to this day, which is perhaps the most exciting aspect of the story.
