The prius actually has an equal or less cost of ownership over 5 years than a corolla does, if you drive it 15k miles or more per year. The fuel savings for the prius end up outweighing the larger depreciation from its higher sticker price. It is especially a good option if you are buying used, like a 2010 or 2011 prius compared to a 2010/2011 corolla.
If you have a hard time getting 34mpg in a 2012 prius then you must be that chronic tailgater who is either slamming the accelerator or slamming on the brakes at all times. Or you live in northern russia or canada. Or there's something wrong with your vehicle.
How can you have a video about driving tips for the Prius without mentioning the crazy regenerative brakes? The brakes feel way different than normal cars
@whole27. I have driven about 12kyou miles. Now that it has cooled off I am regularly getting 55mpg. Taxi drivers who drive as you ASSume, do not last. I have been driving for 13the years. Also I use eco mode most the time now. Driving a Prius very fun, but it takes practice to be an efficient hypermiler. Accel, glide, & slide.
So here's what I'm wondering ~ Is it best when in stop and go traffic to stick my car in EV mode and let it switch back by itself when the traffic eases up ~
Are you kidding? I love the car DESPITE this series of videos. I don't know how Terersa Bravo got this job (could she be MORE bland in her delivery or less familiar about the cars?), and I'm not sure what interns they got to shoot and edit this things.
This guy doesn't really know how to drive this car. The gas motor comes on at 20mph? That isn't how it works. It depends on how much power you request from the accelerator pedal as well as your speed.
By the way if you would do some calculations you would know that payback time for Prius hybrid is 14.5 years compared to non hybrid Prius (with $3.50 gas price)...10y. with $5.00 (car will ned to be junked after 10 due to battery life) That was just calculating extra price you pay vs gas savings...adding cost of ownership and battery life = same as owning H2 Currently all hybrids are waist of money...when you buy them new.
@whole27 Dude the modes are mainly just adjustments to the accelerator angle to make the pedal more or less sensitive, the modes do not directly affect your MPG, they just help encourage you to drive better by modifying the accelerator angle. I think in ECO mode, the only other thing it does is modify your AC system for lower power consumption.
I just bought a 2011 Prius. It now will go 25mph on electric mode. after 1,000 miles I have found i get better full economy not using ECO Mode. I drive it as a taxi so the top light reduces aerodynamics and I get easily 45-50 mpg in normal mode and I get 40-45 mpg in ECO mode. I love the car. spent $10 on fuel today verses $30 in a big Caprice, you CAN KEEP IT "mr92buickroadmaster"
@Frogh4 He can't afford the $60,000 Tesla Model S. And if he can't afford a Tesla Model S, then he sure as hell wouldn't be able to afford a HEV/PHEV car like the Prius when it has a battery inside of it that is more powerful than what's inside the $40,000 Nissan Leaf.
Thw worst tips on prius so far. Look at minute 1:30. This guy is getting 29.1 mpg, which is pretty much the worst gas milage that u can get oit of this car.p
Pretty disappointed in my 2012 Prius model. I didn't realize that hypermiling is what makes the difference. According to this video eco mode only improves gas consumption by 3% and the mpg I'm getting totally reflect that. Another marketing ploy. I drove my Honda civic moderately and achieved 34mpg on average, I have to diligently work to get that in the prius, not to mention I am filling up as regularly and almost for as much as I did before. Do ur research....
@andbudzi Bullshit on all counts. You can replace the batteries for a fraction of the cost after 10 years. Also according to my calculation I am saving $443 a year. I used an average of 191 gallons of gas last year, I used 65 gallons this year after driving my Prius. How did you calculate what a vehicles payback is? I don't see how a straight gasoline engine pays anything back at all, unless you are going Flintstones style with your guzzler.
So NOT driving with a lead foot actually gets you better gas mileage.....DUH.....much to the annoyance of the people behind you, as you're crawling along in the fast lane....lol
WOW what a great piece!
I am going to get on the list for a car this week!!!!!
Great video...keep them coming.
And where are the tips and tricks?

if u turn on the ac gas is always on not just electric
Great car, great info, fun to watch!

PRIUS GOOD CAR TO DRIVE 2010 PRIUS
So here's what I'm wondering ~ Is it best when in stop and go traffic to stick my car in EV mode and let it switch back by itself when the traffic eases up ~
Always use ECO MODE and you will be just fine
Please make this video again like others method

@whole27 sometimes you need powermode: 4 passengers going up a mountain pass

You want real engagement with your vehicle, get a stick shift. Better gas mileage too.
I can’t 25mph on battery sucks
29mpg?! My 2010 can tow a jet ski and get 34mpg how is this guy driving this thing?
@weebl15 Who said anything about engagement? Did someone think this was a race car or something?

@sirhope911 Why don't you buy a Tesla Model S
Bruh, after 10 years, the battery breaks, and it costs so freaking much to replace it. It's like more money than the car

Get the car fixed. The only time I got mileage that low was with huge oversize snow tires and towing a trailer. Something is wrong.
If I had the money
