Although I liked the talk as it is leagues better than any other academic discussion on Hinduism, there is one major flaw in the lecture that any Hindu can point out even in sleep. When you said you got a hand me down soul as a Hindu, there is a fundamental misconception there. In Abrahamic religions, you have a soul. In Hinduism, you ARE the soul. Every Hindu, even the most uneducated, will oft quote a saying "Aap shareer nahi aatma ho" which translates to "You are not the body, you are the soul". Certain Yogis make even more clear distinction. They say "I am not the body. I am not even the mind. I am the higher consciousness that is the soul covered by Maya (illusion) in this material world"

It's nice to see something that is more than a cursory, "new age" style interpretation of Eastern thinking. It gives perspective on the western canon, not to mention the influence it has had on some western philosophers during the past 150 years or so.
nice lecture... i suggest you to listen swami sarvapriyananda's lecture... he is not a fake guru like many out there...but he is highly educated monk of Ramakrishna order.... :)
nice saying about hinduism. Infact hinduism is not a religion it is a discpilne, a practice to reach god and to see god.Actual religion means god realisation you are truely religious wen u realize god. so hinduism teaches about that not to study this book or that nd not to believe on doctrine or dogma.
NOT soul; Atman. Atman is the Self. Soul is a gibberish term that has no precise definition. Animals do not have "souls"; whereas, all of creation is inervated by the Atman at different scales. All beings, things, etc. have atman. We are the atman, we do not "have" an atman. Better lecture than most, but still needs precision.
purusha sukta verse of Rig Veda mentions caste system in details Text Thirteen brahmanosya mukhamasit bahu rajanyah kritaha uru tadasya yadvaishyaha padhyagam shudro ajayata From His face (or the mouth) came the brahmanas. caste system was not present in india . This is varna system-allocating people to their respective activities according to their talent and intrinsic capabilities. varna was flexible, there are lot examples of borne shudras writing upanishadaic scriptures and so on. Later,it might be possible that flexible varna system was collapsed in to rigid birth based system.
Correction, what is said here is Varna and it is based on inherent talent when combined with effort will determine ones Varna. Not based on inheritance but based on persuasions and effort and destined by past Karma!
Lol. There is not caste system in any Hinduism book. Bhimte should educate themselves before talking nonsense. It is mentioned as Varna system in holy Veda books, not caste system. There is not any concept of caste system in Hinduism. People who do propaganda in the name of caste system in holy books should be prosecuted in court, and if they get failed to produce proofs of caste system in book, then they must get behind the bars for their propaganda.
there is no God as per Hinduism, they all are deva. There are 112 meditation techniques mentioned in vigyan bhairava tantra ,choose one and meditate .There is no such thing as buddhism or jainism ,Buddha (The enlightened being )never started a religion, most part of his teachings was from vrihdarnya upanishad .Buddha chose one path from the upanishad in the process of enlightenment.

Hinduism shouldn't be seen in the form of Christianity that there is one god or one supreme being
The idea of god is one but the godness is many
Interesting-please say more!

This material is bad, no real knowledge only random pieces of Hinduism and false humour.
