I love how he's not even a hidden character or easter egg or anything, he's literally a part of the main plot.
Optional main plot actually, boot up the "Original" copy of SMT III that was released in Japan! No dante! No raidou! No chase scenes with the characters gunning you down.

I never thought i'd ever see the day when I game had dante shooting up a unicorn

You know what I love about this scene?
A while after this you get a shot a dropping from the same place that dante did as a shortcut down the building. However, you and your party all get down to 1 hp if you do so.
If you have Dante in your party, however, He stays perfectly fine while your on the verge of death.

You have a really dedicated fan of the series DMC from Atlus to thank for that. Otherwise he never would have shown up in that game.
It's also why I'd trust Atlus among any other company to be trusted in making a successful reboot of DMC if they decided to put more effort into it than the last choice.

Why is Dante so much cooler in this game than the entirerity of DMC2? He even talks more here than he does in that game.
Highly rushed development of DMC2 I supposed,Hideki Itsuno was shoved into the development of DMC2 when progress hasn't really started and the team only has like a few months before the game gets published. It's also why DMC3 and DMC4 turned out to be surprisingly better than DMC2 since Itsuno now has more than just 2-3 (correction:It's 6 months) months for directing a game
Itsuno might have also explicitly stated that they model Dante's personality in this game after his DMC1 version. More wisecracks and upbeat dialogue
I always thought Dante was just too bored and was just there for sightseeing, the only time he makes his wisecracks are towards the end, so I can only assume this is post DMC2 Dante, which makes sense since he was stuck for a while, and apparently this is canon to DMC
It's also fan speculation that DMC2 was originally going to be it's own game staring Lucia, but then it was quickly reformed into a DMC sequel after the surprise success of the original DMC.

While I very much dislike Devil May Cry 2 as a terribly boring game and hate Dante's lack of personality in it, his costume design in that game remains to be my favorite. This is why I enjoy Devil May Cry 2 Dante being SMT Nocturne so much, because he's actually awesome in this game, and his lines are very much "Dante". (Well, maybe not DMC3 ridiculous but that game wasn't out yet.)
The whole thing was an interesting trade, Atlus getting to use Dante (DMC2) in SMT III and Capcom getting Atlus to design Dante and Vergil's devil triggers in DMC3, which is why they look so much like SMT demons.
You know whats sad? Atlus made a better Dante and treated him with more respect than Ninja Theory ever will

That's bullshit. Your reasoning goes right out of the window if you read the second DMC novel (it was canon, mind you) which happens RIGHT before DMC 2 where he acts like his DMC 4 self. Him acting the way he was in 2 when the novel happens right before it which shows a completely different Dante without any proper explanation was nothing but a major lore inconsistency.
If you want to look at a grown man Dante. Look no further than DMC 1 and DMC 4 Dante. He's more calm and subdued. Yet he still has his trademark characteristics from his DMC 3 self. Saying witty one liners, play along with his enemies yet still be able to get serious when shit gets real.
Ebony and Ivory are the names of Dante's guns by-the-way. That's what E&I means.

Man the details in this fight are great. If you pay close attention, you can see that Dante recovers MP when taunting just like he would recover Devil Trigger in DMC. Not only that, but it's the exact same taunt used in DMC1. On top of that, the music sounds like a DMC1 track done in the style of Nocturne's soundtrack.
Dante also just fits perfectly in this game, being half human and half demon just like the Demi Fiend.

He's usually pretty bad against Lucifer.
But Raidou on the other hand got a passive skill that basically gives him Pierce.
Bro that's my same team. I've fought Lucifer so many times and each time I always had Dante. I've always whooped Lucifers ass too. Rebellion to get that extra turn and provoke to lower defense.

I only fought him once using Shiva, Vishnu, and Dante. Demi-Fiend alone killed him way too fast when I fought him to the point where I couldn't see Root Of Evil.

Ah, I love Nocturne. I still remember me playing this game and falling head over heels for it. And that Dante soundtrack! Badass-ness! I give the game developers credit for boosting up the A.I. of Dante. Unless you're ten levels above him, you're constantly having to use your turns wisely, making sure to buff up to mediate his insane Crits/Provokes. It's really easy for Dante to one-shot the party since he likes to pick off the weakest links fast, including the main character. I remember at the Labyrinth I thought I was really smug since I leveled my amigos to an insane level. And yet, Dante managed to kill me off with them Crits and well timed provokes. :/
Also, so happy I wasn't the only one using the Unicorn. LOL. During my first blind playthrough, that unicorn became valuable on account of the buffs he gave the party.

Is it bad that this boss alone made me want this game?
Not bad at all. XD This was my first Atlus game ever, on account of Dante. While DMC2 sucked balls, this game was everything I hoped for. And I loved how Atlus worked his story into the game as opposed to just slapping him into. The soundtrack was also bad-ass.

by the way, if you're wondering how dante got in the vortex world in the first place, he was mentioned by an Overworld npc before the Conception as "a man in a red coat" wandering around. he also somehow survived the Conception, but, being Dante, this is not a surprise.

Seriously though, with a good amount of buffs and a good strategy he can be beaten (like most of the other bosses). Still he is a pain to deal with.
I hated when I managed to get a Fog Breath off on him... only for him to proceed to negate all de buffs.
Dante is rarely ever serious, though. Just look at how he toys with Nero for virtually half of DMC4. That man knows he has too much power.
Lowkey hope Bayonetta gets featured in SMT V, that would be awesome.

I'm glad to see someone holding back on their subsequent playthroughs. Although is that intentional or unintentional.? XD Because a lot of the time the videos I see have people using demons/personas bought from the compendium from earlier playthroughs and raping the game with it.
I personally think having Matador or any other demons that has Dekunda is your best strategy for Dante because of Provoke.That's how I've beaten him personally.Plus I think it keeps the physical buffs provided by Provoke (assuming it works like taunt)

@MyHumanLife Being a recent SMT fan, I can tell you I got both games. I've started playing both games at the same time, and while DDS is great for someone who has never played a SMT game before (like me), it's not as engaging as Nocturne is (which is not saying the game is not good, I'm loving both really).
But I love the whole challenge and demon negotiation mechanics of Nocturne.
This has the be my favorite battle music from Nocturne with the Kotowari theme a close second. Such a badass theme for Dante.

I know that depending on path choice and such you can ask Dante to join you; though he's considered a demon and you can't quite fuse him or remove him from the group after he joins but has some strong skills.
@GozetaZero No, they're demons from the MegaTen series, which Persona is a spinoff of. Many of the same demons/deities/ect from the other MegaTen games show up AS Personae in the Persona series, but they're only called "Personae" within the Persona games. If that makes sense.

It was a thing about Atlus convincing Capcom to let Dante in the game (They showed capcom their rendition of Dante); and later for DMC 3 the Persona designer did the DT designs.
In exchange for him being in this the art director(forgot name at the moment) was asked draw the devil triggers for 3.

I think the best part (which everyone is forgetting) is that Dante jumped off the building prior to this fight which put him at 1 HP of his health, and he fights you with that much of his strength for a boss battle.
