  • New data suggests so-called "dry promotions" are occurring at workplaces for some Americans who are getting higher titles and more responsibility without seeing a pay raise. Ray Smith, a reporter with the Wall Street Journal, joins CBS News with a look at the trend.

    Beware of companies that say "We're Family." When they do this it's time to start looking cause these companies aren't loyal.

      @danielakasmart2891 Oh no, that's different. When companies say you're family, they mean abusive family. When cops tell you you're family, they mean mob family. Stay in line or get taken out. Hence the whole ACAB thing.

    • @Chad_Max
      @Chad_Max 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      LOL its not corporate greed. This current administration has created 10 years of inflation in 3 years. To combat this, the Fed raised the interest rate. This means borrowing money is more expensive for companies to do. So what happens? They start to downsize and trim the fat. This is exactly why you have to vote carefully. It always amazes me that the middle class continues to vote Blue when these Blue politicians without fail crush the middle class with their policies while in office...

    Forget negotiating, just quit your job and let the government figure out why americans don't dream of labor. Production of american workers are up 400%, yet their wages are down. So the top 5% could get a larger cartoonish income. While many work 40 hours and still can't afford a home.

    As a teacher, my first time getting promoted I didn’t get a raise. I was 23 so I saw it as a growth opportunity but the next time I was offered a lead position I had to assert I would only take it if it came with a pay increase. I did get the pay raise but I was also guilted about it because someone who was many years my senior was previously getting the stipend for the position despite the funding not necessarily being for their grade level. I find it interesting and I’ve heard before that the issue is gendered since women feel guilty about asking for a raise whereas men feel like guilty shooting their shot.

    In my company a promotion is usually a 5% raise. It discourages me from wanting a promotion in the first place because the pay increase is not worth the additional work and expectations from the promotion. I’ve also observed that a lot of my managers in the my company doesn’t make you feel like you earned the promotion but rather it was a favor given to you by them and now you owe them loyalty and favors for giving you a promotion. Yeah I’ve already made an exist strategy to find another job once my current employer gives me a promotion. Right now I’m just coasting at my current job and happy with the pay for stress free work!

    Leverage is the key word here. Don't establish loyalty, establish leverage. Find the way to keep them needing you. First that comes with knowing what you are worth. Then not settling for less. Find a niche somewhere but don't give them all the cards or they won't need you anymore. This applies to most situations. It's a buyers market right now and you are selling your time.
