Nearly 42 years later and I’m sitting here in tears. I miss John so much. Like everyone he had his faults but he was magical. Mark David Chapman burn in hell.
considering Paul and George were actually sharing a mic and the insane intensity of this performance which didn't allow for high fives at the time and the fact that were more like brothers than actual brothers and had been together for so long they could read eachother's minds...I'd say the chemistry is palpable. since they didn't play live for years, I don't think you are used to seeing Paul playing the bass (one of the best ever) and the distortion in this case was entirely intentional as it was in happiness is warm gun, helter skelter, i am the walrus, etc. hopefully their hard stuff will grow on you, Beka xo
My God the genius of John Lennon. He wrote this masterpiece and did an awesome job as the lead singer. A tremedous riff at the beginning. RIP John. You are in Heaven now.
This was also filmed in a studio for the David Frost Show, so sound was even commented on by George yelling to Paul that John's mic was shit. The keyboardist wasn't Billy Preston this time. They were all individuals by this time, surviving the fame in their own way.
I remember as a 12 year old kid in southern California listening to this song being played on the radio, and thought it was the greatest song ever! Brings back many memories! Love that distortion on John Lennon guitar and his voice is classic.
Beatles are like no other group. They knew each other far longer then the other " projects" you named, and Led Zeps chemistry is that of men who were not childhood friends, but musicians picked to be in a band
In this particular video... the song was about "Revolution" and they put on their serious attitudes for this performance video. Watch any of their early live performances and you will see that they had a lot of fun playing live. Or watch their first two movies.
You have to realize the Beatles stopped touring in 1966. They weren’t able to hear themselves on stage because of all the crazy screaming. They decided they couldn’t go on touring as their music was an afterthought to crazed audiences. This version of Revolution was recorded in 1968 for play on the David Frost show in England and the Smothers Brothers show in the USA. It’s likely some of the instrument parts were pre recorded, such as the piano. There was no live audience or a small studio audience , so they had no audience interaction. It was performed for filming. This may explain why you don’t see the kind of interaction you’d see in the lesser bands’, you mention like Queen and the derivative Led Zeppelin, concert footage.
The sound was muffled in this video and John's microphone wasn't working well, but John like the dirty sound of this. The studio version sounds excellent though. After 1966 The Beatles were no longer a live act, and they became a studio band. If you want to see them interact with each other, look for their concert footages from 1963 to 1966 when they were a touring band.
Take a look at their nme 1964 performance for some energy. They always were more tame when performing for TV. The beatles were an amazing live act, they often performed 6-8 hour sets as a residential band in Hamburg in the early 60s. Not a lot of bands as tight as that ever since tbh
The distortion in the recording was intentional. That was not the Beatles usual sound and a number of fans tried to return the album thinking the distortion was a sign of an error made in pressing the record.
I believe the Beatles asked for that distortion to be in the song, which went against every instinct the engineer and producer had. You said that you didn't see a lot of chemistry between them on stage, but, at least on your channel, you've only seen two songs from near the end of their career when they were really getting on each others' nerves and a Paul solo. I think that as you see some older performances, you'll see the chemistry.
This was towards the end of the band and yes there was a lot of tension in the band. The recording is live and 60 years ago so yeah the sound isn't as clean cause the technology was a little less crisp then. John and Paul where competing to be the leader of the band. John split and the band broke up. By the way your gorgeous today as usual!
Four businessmen. It sold, I'll give them that. And it provided the revolution required at the time, and not just in terms of the amazing distortion on the guitar.
It was George Harrison who wanted a new upbeat version of the song, so Lennon decided to record it again straight into the consol of the studio! Making the fuzz sound! It wasn't alowed so the studio crew got a reprimand ..abuse of studio equipment!
Beatles music are top quality, not only their songs but also sound quality of their recordings. Computer is wrong place to listen them if you wanna get all out from their music. Hifi equipments are right way to do it. Many 60's music are recorded with good quality which gives more pleasure to listen of them.
I'm a little late with my comment, but...WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT!!!!!!! The Beatles had been together since they were 13-16 years old. They grew up together. They were brothers in every sense of the word. They went through so much together during their touring days. There couldn't be a tighter band, musically as well as personally. But I guess you saw it different then everyone else. And by the way, has anyone ever told you, you are gorgeous?
It's a combination of them singing over the studio track (aka; double or mix track) on a live TV show that usually doesn't have the best audio output and recording especially during the 60s and late 70s. Also the heavy distortion of the guitars in bad audio situations are always a recipe for disaster. Considering all that, it's acceptable and entertaining.
This clip was double tracked, meaning they sang over the original track. This fast version over lapped with the slow versions shoo be do ups and other add ons . The studio fast version is kiler, but has heaps of distortion on it as the story Lennon says is that he wanted to put this out as a stand alone single ( white Album slow version ) and was told , no its to slow, hense him doing this wired up crazy heavy version , cause he was pissed off. I still love this clip as its the only performance we see with this potent song for its time. When i played this song on our record player in 1970, my dads 45 , it blew my mind, and at the age of 5 i know what kind of music i wanted to hear...... Electric guitar ! You will also notice in the Hey Jude Clip, that also is double tracked and you can hear Paul singing at times with himself . Cheers from Australia, love your vids \m/\m/
There are plenty of reasons why you might not think the Beatles looked like they were having a good time here and it's probably because they weren't. They stopped touring in 1966 and this show, while appearing live, wasn't really. They sang live vocals over an instrumental backing track. I think this was after the White Album, which was very hard on the group with a lot of tension. They were all a little fed up with one another when this was recorded. The only time they did fully live music again was the famous "rooftop concert" in 1969, their last live performance ever.
There was a lot of chemistry when they were touring . After they stop touring they mostly did videos ,as they did here . Playing to a camera is different than playing to an audience .They showed some of that chemistry on the roof top concert with, "don't let me down " and " I've got a feeling", take one .
Your observation, that they "weren't comfortable together," and "they weren't present together," is very apt. At this point only Paul was really into it any more, and only his energy - and his ego - kept it going at all.
Chemistry - So have You seen the flick ' Hard Days Night ' back in their early phase. When they stopped touring ( 1966 , revolver tour ) they turned to music videos , the often hyped 'beginning of MTV. almost all were fake, lip synched. but some, like the video for ' Something' are interesting.
If you were to watch "the Beatles movie A Hard Day's Night," you would get a glimpse of the band's personalities and their fun natures. The movie's creaters captured their essence in a simplified manner but showed their true playfulness and congeniality.
Hello, Good reaction and you are HONEST and that counts more than anything! So 1- The sound isn't the greatest because this was mostly live (With some added backing sounds for the keyboard for example) so you're getting a raw sound from a live performance, from 1968, which was made for tv. Television back then only had 1 small speaker, no sound system hookups and surround sound, so quality for sound was not as meticulous as it would be decades later. 2- If you want to see that "synergy vibe" where they engage with eachother and smile a bit here and there, check out "Hey Jude" which was filmed on the same day, at the same place, and you even will get to see them interact with a live audience too ;) But by far, the best live performance to watch of The Beatles, in terms of quality of sound, sight and how they all link with eachother is the performance on the Rooftop. You have to think that one of the reasons their performances often seemed more "sterile" playing live in earlier shows was because they had no sound monitors, and the crowds were so loud, they could not hear themselves play and sing, so they had to concentrate very hard to even just not play wrong and sing out of tune, leaving very little attention span to chill a bit and look at eachother and just jam, it was very stressful to play with primitive amps and not being able to hear themselves while performing. Yeah rooftop concert is where you wanna go for a good Live performance of The Beatles. Cheers from Montreal, Canada! :)
In the world of modern popular culture over the past 60 years, there has been few bands with greater "chemistry", than the Beatles. Starting with their gigs in dirty basements and clubs, in front of sometimes criminal audiences. It's no coincidence, that Mick Jagger once referred to this Beatles unit as the "Fourheaded Monster". The four of them were only able to get through these years of apprenticeship and later the concerts during the "Beatlemania" healthy, as a sworn unit. Something like that isn't really necessary in the TV studio, where you're producing a clip, that's supposed to promote a new single. One deliver a routine job and it's good. The Beatles also had a busy day on September 4th, 1968. Two clips of "Revolution" and three of "Hey Jude" were produced, the latter with studio audiences. As far as Led Zeppelin or Queen are concerned, one can say, that the artists also understood better and better, how to stage themselves, be it with clothes, gestures or other gimmicks. At no point in their careers of Queen or Led Zeppelin, have I been able, to register a greater band chemistry as the one of the Beatles and, although I've written quite a lot here now,😄I don't consider it particularly important.
I thought their performance was ok .. in the early days they were more animated.. but it’s a hot song by a hot band .. they were asked for years their opinion on the Vietnam war, Brian Epstein gagged them on that subject.. this was Johns reply to all those questions.
When I was a kid I thought that was Lennon screaming in the beginning,he had the reputation to be the Rock guy and Paul the sweet guy, later getting to know the Beatles music better McCartney could get heavy when he wanted to,sure he gave us yesterday but he gave us what would be the closest to heavy metal that the Beatles ever came to w Helter-skelter too
Push comes to shove, my fave Beatles track of all time. Fuzz on the Guitar will take yer eye out. This version of "Revolution" did not appear on any album, crazy.
In an achievement unlikely to ever be equalled, for the week of 4 April 1964 The Beatles occupied the top five positions of the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
1968 was the beggining of the end, the relationship among the Beatles was starting to get sour since John, George, and Ringo felt that Paul was getting too bossy... Sound engineer Geoff Emerick got the idea of installing the microphones real close to the amplifiers to augment the loudness of the song; EMI executives only allowed that to the Fab Four for the time being!
You see a lot of the chemistry (and the fun they're having) when watching the early Beatles in concert, such at on the "Ed Sullivan Show." You may want to check out the Beatles on that show singing "This Boy" live, lead singer John Lennon, to see and get the feel for that. During that performance, you'll see them taking quick sideways glances at each other while trying not to laugh, and then looking at each other and then laughing. Every performance was a lark for them. When they had to sing to pre-recorded songs for TV, they purposely made obvious wording mistakes to make it obvious, because they didn't like doing it. Here's a link for the "This Boy" performance on the "Ed Sullivan Show." John's high, raw voice shines through on this one.: th-cam.com/video/7BdNrReDhGs/w-d-xo.html&start_radio=1 However, even in their later years together, no matter their squabbles, they always had fun, which is obvious in numerous TH-cam videos.
If you read lips, you can see George lean over to Paul and remark on John's mic sound direct into the board (":His mic is shit") This was a first, recording rock directly into the board and mixing later. That accounts for John's guitar sound as well (his Epiphone Casio's hollow body helps too)
To me they looked like they were having a great time, as evidenced by Paul and George's enthusiastic supporting vocals. The guitar is SUPPOSED to sound distorted. I think it's just you. But that's fine. We all perceive things differently. You certainly looked like YOU were enjoying it. :) good for you!
I forgot to add Rebeka, another great live concert was Dido at the Brixton Academy, all her songs are great but if you could react to White Flag or Thank You
Hi Becky, i think you may need to watch Paul McCartneys live WINGS concerts, a whole new experience, with all mod cons which The Beatles did not have of course.
Hello Rebeka. When was the last time u saw something SENSATIONAL, BEYOND BELIEF..Well key in a recent post,. SiMON COWELL ELVIS RECAP.4min 59sec.I have never seen anything like it & probably never will again. It blew the 4 judges away & watch Simon Cowell s face.I don't think u can react to it because of copyright but a private look is a must it's just amazing.
Rebeka, It doesn't matter if recording was good or not, Raw is good, mistakes are good, also don't forget the technology side of things were less than we have today.
@@lyndoncmp5751 I rate Led Zeppelin live no higher than the Beatles. Of course, the technical possibilities for concerts improved significantly from the late 1960s, not least thanks to the Beatles. But even with their "living room speakers" the Beatles put on rousing performances, when they felt like it.
They are singing/playing to their own recording except for George and Paul doing some back up singing not on the original single record hit. electric piano part? No one, it's a recording...it was for a promotional film for the song, coupled with the Hey Jude performance on the David Frost Show 1968. Hey Jude was also done in the same way with an audience. no chemistry? they had given 1,000% on tour through 1966. Watch the earlier stuff, you WILL see chemistry. If you don't , you're blind. Shea Stadium concert [1965] is great example.
It was more about the music than acting like video stars back then. They would never do anything visually that might have affected the quality of their performance.
This was a live recording and not recorded in the recording studio. That is why the quality was not top notch. If you love PAUL MCCARTNEY solo and performing live than you need to check out this incredible live performance of MAYBE I'M AMAZED. It would be a great reaction video for you. Here is the link. th-cam.com/video/yxTdz3hw9Xo/w-d-xo.html
Hi thanks for your reaction. Originally this was their live performance over prerecorded tracks. I have never seen this before without the prerecorded tracks I say that because that could be why these are weak performances for the Beatles
The song is not specifically directed against communism, but fundamentally against (political) violence. The name "Mao" is interchangeable with Trump, Putin, Hitler, Nixon, Jong-un, any violent or aggressive political figure. Mao was only a current personality in 1968, which Lennon integrated into the song.
@@braudabo nope mao was one main communist dictator along with stalin, they only revolution that was in the head of people at that time was the communist revolution in rusia, cuba, and the cold war, Lenon didn't mention anyone else, basically the lyrics meant that they didn't agree with that revolution..lecture someone else
@@2011andresmeFrom my interpretation, he sings about "revolution(s)" regardless of worldview. Even if the current political situation at the time was the reason for the Beatles' "Revolution" tracks, I rate his interview (1970) with "Rolling Stone" as meaning, that he generally means "revolutions": "I wanted to put what I felt about revolution; I thought it was time we fuckin’ spoke about it, the same as I thought it was about time we stopped not answering about the Vietnamese War when we were on tour with Brian Epstein and had to tell him, “We’re going to talk about the war this time and we’re not going to just waffle.” I wanted to say what I thought about revolution. I had been thinking about it up in the hills in India. I still had this “God will save us” feeling about it, that it’s going to be all right (even now I’m saying “Hold on, John, it’s going to be all right,” otherwise, I won’t hold on) but that’s why I did it, I wanted to talk, I wanted to say my piece about revolution. I wanted to tell you, or whoever listens, to communicate, to say “What do you say? This is what I say.” On one version I said “Count me in” about violence, in or out, because I wasn’t sure. But the version we put out said “Count me out,” because I don’t fancy a violent revolution happening all over. I don’t want to die; but I begin to think what else can happen, you know, it seems inevitable." No talk of specific people or communism, religions or whatever people fight in the streets for.
Nearly 42 years later and I’m sitting here in tears. I miss John so much. Like everyone he had his faults but he was magical. Mark David Chapman burn in hell.
Best band of all time. No one like them. Period.

Agreed,I love a lot of super talented bands ,Led Zeppelin,The Stones ,Pink Floyd, but I still think no one can compare to the Beatles.
considering Paul and George were actually sharing a mic and the insane intensity of this performance which didn't allow for high fives at the time and the fact that were more like brothers than actual brothers and had been together for so long they could read eachother's minds...I'd say the chemistry is palpable. since they didn't play live for years, I don't think you are used to seeing Paul playing the bass (one of the best ever) and the distortion in this case was entirely intentional as it was in happiness is warm gun, helter skelter, i am the walrus, etc. hopefully their hard stuff will grow on you, Beka xo
My God the genius of John Lennon. He wrote this masterpiece and did an awesome job as the lead singer. A tremedous riff at the beginning. RIP John. You are in Heaven now.
He is my musical god, always has been, always will be. He alone is the most influential single musician of all time.
If you didn't see the chemistry it's probably because you were looking at yourself on your screen.

🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸 This great live version is sort of a combination of the Revolution single and the White Album version.
Mainly the "ah-shoo-be-doo-wop" is from Rev 1, everything else is the single
The Beatles.. kinda gritty, hip and musically... right on 🎸🎸💯
The Beatles ❗❗❗

Hello, Good reaction and you are HONEST and that counts more than anything!

But by far, the best live performance to watch of The Beatles, in terms of quality of sound, sight and how they all link with eachother is the performance on the Rooftop.

Best rock and roll band ever
Let’s gooo🎉
It's a live recording. You can find the studio recording on their channel too.
Just the vocals are live, they are singing to a pre recorded track
Hi Rebeka, You can't beat live! Please more
5 years between I Want To Hold Your Hand and Revolution… They were at the forefront of so many changes…
Watch the Beatles roof top ,they really look like a band Vibing together

You see a lot of the chemistry (and the fun they're having) when watching the early Beatles in concert, such at on the "Ed Sullivan Show." You may want to check out the Beatles on that show singing "This Boy" live, lead singer John Lennon, to see and get the feel for that. During that performance, you'll see them taking quick sideways glances at each other while trying not to laugh, and then looking at each other and then laughing. Every performance was a lark for them. When they had to sing to pre-recorded songs for TV, they purposely made obvious wording mistakes to make it obvious, because they didn't like doing it.
Here's a link for the "This Boy" performance on the "Ed Sullivan Show." John's high, raw voice shines through on this one.:

However, even in their later years together, no matter their squabbles, they always had fun, which is obvious in numerous TH-cam videos.
Hi Rebeka have you reacted to Freddie covering The Great Pretender l think you will like it, love your reactions much love and peace from the UK.
If you read lips, you can see George lean over to Paul and remark on John's mic sound direct into the board (":His mic is shit") This was a first, recording rock directly into the board and mixing later. That accounts for John's guitar sound as well (his Epiphone Casio's hollow body helps too)
Paul is cracking up hearing John do his "oh \. ah " section and when he says "You can count me out......in ...."
Rebeka please consider doing any song by The Beautiful South, perfect 10 & A little time are two of my favs but they are all great
As one commentator mention, the distortion was intentional, but Johns mic was bad, as seen in George's comment to Paul
To me they looked like they were having a great time, as evidenced by Paul and George's enthusiastic supporting vocals. The guitar is SUPPOSED to sound distorted. I think it's just you. But that's fine. We all perceive things differently. You certainly looked like YOU were enjoying it. :) good for you!
watch bow river by cold chisel . prepare to be blown away. great aussie band
THE BEATLES - I"VE GOT A FEELING (TAKE 1 ) ROOFTOP CONCENT.
Great Beatles 💚💚☺️☺️ smack rebcis 😍😍😘🥴🔥
You sang some words to the song just before the Beatles did. You have already heard the song.
❤❤
Rebeka, It doesn't matter if recording was good or not, Raw is good, mistakes are good, also don't forget the technology side of things were less than we have today.
"Beatles lacked chemistry on stage". There's a first for everything I guess.
They were no Zeppelin on stage.
She's right.
At that point, they hadn't played a live show for over 2 years. This was "semi-live" for a TV show.
@@deepermind4884 They played the year before "All you need is love" in the worldwide-TV-show "Our world".
@@braudabo True, but that was also 1 song. Not like the touring days.
Hello Rebeka you look nice
I know the Beattles did a song Come together but Aerosmith covered it and was awesome
As to the recording quality, it was excellent, but John Lennon's guitar had a lot of distortion on purpose.
No, I don’t agree that there was a lack of chemistry between them onstage. In fact, I feel precisely the opposite.
This was a live recording and not recorded in the recording studio. That is why the quality was not top notch. If you love PAUL MCCARTNEY solo and performing live than you need to check out this incredible live performance of MAYBE I'M AMAZED. It would be a great reaction video for you. Here is the link. th-cam.com/video/yxTdz3hw9Xo/w-d-xo.html
check out across the universe movie based on beatles songs amazing film
More beatles pls
Hi thanks for your reaction. Originally this was their live performance over prerecorded tracks. I have never seen this before without the prerecorded tracks
I say that because that could be why these are weak performances for the Beatles
the importance of the song is the message against comunism.. if you carry picture of chairman mao...
This is what I say.”
On one version I said “Count me in” about violence, in or out, because I wasn’t sure. But the version we put out said “Count me out,” because I don’t fancy a violent revolution happening all over. I don’t want to die; but I begin to think what else can happen, you know, it seems inevitable."
No talk of specific people or communism, religions or whatever people fight in the streets for.
