- The Catlins: New Zealand's Rugged Coastline
We just returned from a visit to the Catlins region in New Zealand and we are completely in awe of its stunning coastal beauty. Purakanui Bay was a highlight for us with its golden sands and clear waters perfect for swimming and picnicking. The Purakanui Waterfall offered a peaceful hike through a lush green forest, while the Cathedral Coves provided a mesmerizing backdrop with their towering rock formations. Curio Bay was a unique experience with its ancient fossil forest and playful Hector's dolphins. We highly recommend experiencing the diverse beauty and natural wonders of the Catlins - it truly is a must-visit destination for any traveler. Let's go.

➤ ABOUT US: Hi! We’re Nick & Raychel, and we want to help people open their eyes to alternative living, whether that be teaching English online, moving to Cambodia, taking advantage of working holiday visas, or building a DIY stealthy camper van to live & work on the road. Nothing is off limits when adventure is the ultimate goal. After three years of living full time van life throught Canada, Mexico and the USA, we're now car camping our way through New Zealand in a Land Rover Discovery 1.
Our goal here is to bring you weekly content where we hope to inspire you to break free & live the life you desire. On this channel, we talk everything from finances to minimalism to working online to mindset and post a weekly vlog of our daily lives. We hope you join us on our journey to see the world, save money, live minimally, and most importantly, have fun.
So if you're looking for a channel about van life, alternative living, and budget travel, you're in the right place.
My grandparents were the last lighthouse keepers at the Nuggets. Grew up in this area taking it for granted and doing all my dumb teenage shit at all these places. You guys definitely did this area justice and made me appreciate my youth here.
Thank you Nick and Raychel for showing the beautiful Purakanui Bay of New Zealand! ☺
We LOVED it!!
That sky is stunning
Honestly amazing
Welcome to where we live! The Deep South of NZ! Thank you for appreciating our local area ❤
Have always heard N. Zealand is simply amazing....
It is truly breathtaking
Stunning sunrise tones 😍🥰
😉Great video - it really cheered me up👍
Glad you enjoyed it!
I love being near the water. Have lived in 3 different countries and never been more than 30mins from the coastline. Was just having a conversation about this with someone less than an hour ago😅
This video reminds me of our trip to England, sheep, rolling hills
Mado sent me here.
That is awesome! Love her.
Good on you for finding what it means to be a kiwi from the south, not many visitors have ever experienced it. Well done!
As a Pisces I definitely feel it as my happy place, be it in the water, diving, fishing, or just driving or walking the shoreline, and just tasting the saltwater while swimming ❤
Little blue penguins are the best, the National Aquarium up in Napier has a penguin feeding 3 times a day where you can see them fairly close without have to pay silly amounts. Well, if you want to pay silly amounts you can also hand feed them I think.
They are so cute!
Dunedin is worth considering. 2nd biggest city inthe South Island and lots of amazing coastal scenery very close by out on the peninsula. Hospitality jobs too shouldn’t be too difficult to come by as well. You should visit on one of your weekends off and take the scenic road over the pig route one way and then the main road back via Roxburgh and Alexandra.
Totally agree! Thanks for the tip.
Wow you look so sinilar to my colleage its crazy!
get to work adam
I'm a water sign and happiest near any body of water especially salt.
Wow, these coastal views remind me of the California coastline (from what I’ve seen online, never driven to the coast)
yesss kind of similar!!
had a sea lion chase the boys and i off that very beach then came to say geday in the middle of the night while tenting
What is the art shop called please…..as I saw something quickly that I liked and will look online. Thank you , I’m new to your site but really enjoyed it…enjoy our land.
Hi! Glad you liked the video. It's called Five Rivers Cafe.
Would you move to the Catlins? Is there much around in terms of businesses or a little quaint town for supplies? I am definitely a lake/coast person… need water. I’ve always lived close to a lake. It’s my dream to be somewhere with water & mountain views.
There is really not much around - but we could move somewhere like Dunedin, which we’ve heavily considered! But the South does get cold in the winter, so we will be heading north instead. If we come back next year for a 2nd working holiday visa, we may choose somewhere coastal.
The Catlins would be an amazing place to live but there is very little in the way of jobs there. If you have experience with farm work - maybe.
Hi, where do you find hot showers while living in a car?
You can use the app CamperMate to find them!
Try genuinly visiting the local elders to the land and get a more beautiful understanding no matter how it is experienced. Fact
Definitely a kiwi experience dosent happen much anymore
It was so cool
@@nickandraychel when was kid and going on long trips with my parents we would come across these animal road blocks all the time and with cattle as well but they were much bigger than the one on your video
And the red eye means the stones in the world
