  • Feb. 22 -- Barneys New York is marking a Manhattan homecoming with a return to the downtown block where the luxury retailer was founded in 1923. The new flagship opens its doors after the company closed 23 other stores across the country since hedge fund manager Richard Perry bought it at the brink of bankruptcy in 2012. Barneys New York Chief Executive Officer Mark Lee talks to Bloomberg's Ramy Inocencio about the new opportunity.

I wish I could say I like it. So much white marble, bright diffused lighting, hard surfaces and lack of warmth.

Barney Pressman had character....his son had vision, the grandchild were gluttonous.....the Pressman's were never known for warmth. Barney was hard working man....his offspring not so much.
The collapse never, never needed to happen....it's a crying shame...a stinking rotten shame!!!

I got to shop there only once. Also I got to shop once at the store on Wilshire. I wish they were still around.

They sell made in China and Bangladesh just like HM and Walmart but expect consumers to pay 20x more because some European designer blessed these creations with his hard to pronounced name embroidered to the merch.

Although this department store chain was supposed to exit the bankruptcy and continue running the stores but it was too late, the company went out of business in 2020.

Yea. That was a smart move! A very big reason the whole company went out of business. A money pit if there ever was one. The Saks downtown store also closed down after 6 Months I think.

Poor Nordstrom back in 2019, they opened a new store in October 2019, only to be shutdown due to the lockdown. Brutal.

Barneys has the same merchandise it had two years ago. It's a sinking ship.

Once New Yorkers get accustomed to the customer service of Nordstrom and Neiman Marcus, the Barney’s stores will be empty.
Barney’s has been known for never providing a pleasant shopping experience to anyone but celebrities.
    They won’t last

why go to a store and pay 6 times for the same item theyve ordered from aliexpress. the only advantage is getting the item sooner because it does take up to 40 days from china sometimes 2 months but its cheap as hell

This is a terrible outdated look for the store and who wants to walk up and down stairs???? Modern for trendy design standards but outdated and tacky design for a high end store.
Even the CEO and interviewer seem oddly uncomfortable walking down the stairs.
Tacky trends and tacky wanna be modern design is what killed this store. On top of prices inflated at 10-20x their actual cost for brands and product that nobody cared about.
The real Barneys was none of this crap, and was much more affordable back then on top of being a humble store.
Greed and overhyped marketing for a fake market, all for a cash grab.
The people on top of this company are clueless as to what they were running or what the company truly used to be like.
Walking into one of these stores was an odd experience nothing made sense, the workers felt out of place or the point of their existence with product that was out of touch of reality.
