All Souls Day in Delhi

People paying a visit to the dead on occasion of All Soul's Day at Delhi Christian cemetery, Prithvi Raj road which is run by Delhi Christians Cemetery Committee.
All Soul's Day is a Roman Catholic day of observance to remember the faithfully departed, a day dedicated to friends, families and loved ones who left for their heavenly abode. It is normally celebrated on november 2nd or 3rd every year. On this day, many christians pay a visit to the designated dead sites.They lit candles, burn incence, decorate the graves, clean the graveyards spanking clean and pray for the rested souls. Sometimes even the people offer food, flowers, photos, events, mementos and symbols. All Soul's Day is commonly known as 'The day of the dead'. While the human skull is the symbol, the marrigold flower is associated with this day.
All Soul's Day is dated back to 993 AD at a monastery in Cluny, France initiated by Saint Odilo, the Abbot of Cluny. From then on it spread to the Western Churces in the 10th century only to be adopted by the Catholic Church in the 14th century. The Protestant Christians are rather temporal about it. Americans have their own way of remembering the dead by celebrating Halloween.
